I'm cautiously pessimistic, if all goes well.

So, I have now extendedly played the demo with all 3 races, and the more I play, the more I actually like it (and because I always win).

The Marine feels at first a bit slow and clunky (increase mouse sensitivity in options to 100), but with his pulse rifle, he can waste even a Predator in no time. Sure he has no visual support, and a cloaked Pred can sometimes be really missed, but if you're not a total dumbass and have some basic shooter skills, I'd say the Marine is the most powerful dude in the game.

The Pred isn't really that menacing, unless he gets his shoulder cannon or disc, then he becomes almost unstoppable. There's definately some balancing needed there. In melee, he's just about the same strength as an Alien.

Playing as Alien is the most fun, even though the transitions from surface to surface it total garbage. Just use jump to get on the ceiling, it's faster. Alas, the demo map isn't really that great for using ceiling crawling. The best weapon is still speed. I love it when I rush behind some dude and use a power kill. It's very satisfying.

From a technical point of view, AvP is very solid. Great graphics, great sound, great performance. But the matchmaking stuff just doesn't work currently, and the demo doesn't have a dedicated server either, so if you want to play, just join http://steamcommunity.com/groups/AVPI.

Verdict: Solid fun, but nothing great.

If the singleplayer is good, I'll prolly end up buying the game.

Lazy job on porting the UI.

Matchmaking is a total disaster, in a frickin multiplayer demo ;)

Didn't get any further, not sure if I want to.

I got the patch just after I finished downloading the demo.

It does not help.

PC + matchmaking = disaster

Ah garbage, it really doesn't work.

Just use the above link, enter the chat room and join some group.

After a few more random server time outs, I finally managed play a little. It ran ok and things died when I shot them, everyone was lagging like hell though.

The single player part might still be fun.

There's also the Giant Bomb quicklook of the demo. Killing someone while they are stuck in the killing animation leads to some pretty ridiculous stuff.

Really slow aliens = my neighbors lapdog is more aggressive than those aliens!

The console kids wouldn't stand a chance otherwise with their clunky gamepads.

Those are some geriatric aliens. Playing alien in AVP 1&2 felt like 100 miles an hour, which was one of the key advantages over the other races.

Na na  na na  na na  ...

greg358 from Darksouls 3 PVP is a CHEATER.

That is all.

The console version is awful, I haven't looked at the PC version, it may be somewhat better.

PS3, I couldn't find a match.

XBox 360 I could find a match, but firing the gun was basically point in general direction, squeeze trigger, let auto aim do the rest. Alien is over powered, Marine is underpowered, and the preditor was just clunky and overly complex.

Bad controls, bad GFX, the only good thing was the level was laid out kinda cool.

I always sort of knew it would be bad, but its worse than I expected.

I came up with Crate 3.0 technology.

Crate 4.0 - we shall just have to wait and see.

My first impression was also negative, but it isn't really that bad after they fixed the matchmaking. I think the GFX is pretty good and atmospheric, so I have no complaints there. Though while the multiplayer might be fun in the full version (DS, more modes), Rebellion doesn't really have a trackrecord of making good singleplayer games. So unless reviews prove me otherwise, I'll for now stay away from it.

Me being an advocate of naked women in games,I must admit I'm somewhat annoyed that every game has to have a stripper or boobz now. I don't see the point of that holo thingy, its comical.

That and the alien is bloody slow. Bastards made them slow so the console gamers wouldn't squeal when you gut them for the thousandth time. That's really, really lame.

Ever been in a night club? Dancing women are part of the deal and since it's the future it's a cool holohoe!

I don't know about that being the reason.

Is this just you insinuating your opinions as fact again? *yawn*

Then you're easy to please. It really is at best average in the GFX department. Certainly nothing special going off.

What other reason could there be?

The Alien wasn't easy to control with a mouse and keyboard at former speeds, how would you control it with a gamepad considering how much you have to use the mouse/pointer to change direction when wallcrawling.

It would be downright unplayable.

Nah, because the rendering is very basic from a technical point of view :p

Its downright unplayable period. I don't think that its related to the console version, I just feel its a badly made game.

In that respect its opinion. I can certainly make a few phone calls and find out if that is the genuine reason for the slower aliens. Though when sprinting I found them to be pretty speedy.
