Waa waa, my favorite game creators aren't on the list! Waa waa, some people on the list are lame!

Is it working? Am I fitting in now?

Nah it still makes me want to hurl. Epic fail. Next!

Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.

John Romero should be the only person on that list.

Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. It's a useful skill to have particularly where you aren't allowed to call people names. It's a mistake to get too drawn in/worked up. I mean it's not life or death, it's just two guys posting their thoughts on a message board. If it were personal or face to face all the usual restraints would be in place, and we would never have reached this place in the first place. Try to remember that.

I prefer to complain about serious issues, like when they shut down the Ice Cream shop that was just down the street from me. Tragedy!

I'm really not joking, every time I pass that place I sigh. It was dang good Ice Cream. Marble Slab Creamery.

I've been to several Marble Slabs. The toppings are great, but the ice cream itself is average.

Addition: I may be thinking of Cold Stone Creamery. Hmm..

They are similar. Cold Stone seems to be more popular and more common, but I don't enjoy their base ice cream as much.

It will be interesting to see who cracks the top ten. My money is on Miyamoto taking the top spot, with Will Wright close behind. I expect Sid Meier to get at least top 5. Richard Garriot will also probably settle in around 9 or 10.

Kojima will probably be in the top 10 too. And perhaps Ken Levine because Bioshock is in fashion. Gabe Newell will be there for sure, as well. Also, Sakaguchi and Carmack. Oh, and Warren Spector.

With these and yours we have the 10 places filled.

Personally, I think Doug Church and Yasumi Matsuno both deserve a spot, but they won't get one.

Edit: Well, I just checked the latest entries, and Ken Levine has shown up, already.

Reynolds should have been higher. I wouldn't argue that he should be higher than Sid, since most people wouldn't accept that, but he is pretty damn good and, as many people notice, he has done more and better things than Sid recently.

I'm mostly just waiting to see what position Spector gets as the rest aren't nearly as interesting.

Anyone gonna comment on Harvey Smith's position?

Stop causing trouble!

Why is he higher than Levine? They have had similar careers but Levine's is better.

I guess maybe through his association with Spector.

Better by which scale?

I don't know. WHich one are we using?

Any of you guys played Cybermage: Darklight Awakening?

Awesome game. Way ahead of its time. One of those totally forgotten should be classics that gets none of the attention it deserves.

I assumed that you had one in mind since you suggested that Ken Levine is better than Harvey Smith.

I'd just pick the one that would make Harvey Smith the best.

Edit: Is Cybermage playable (fun) today from a gameplay standpoint?

Edit: Is Cybermage playable (fun) today from a gameplay standpoint?

It depends what you can tolerate. As a shooter, it feel slightly more sophisticated than Doom.

But the levels are great, the weapons are cool, the world environment is fab. Again, this is all for its time. There's even a story. Kind of.

I'm thinking it was the first shooter I ever played that had sort of "real world" levels that were part of each other. There was also exploration and stuff. SOme cool AI battles. Tanks. Flying cars. Bars. Hookers. Rocket guns. What more could you ask for?

I didn't realise hookers were that important, though apparently they're part of the required formula.

Edit: Large explosions are also a requirement, Nukes if we can find 'em.

Hookers are not required; they are however helpful.

If rocket guns are in; then everything else is a bonus.

Personally, if Levine was as important to its overall design as it seems, I think System Shock 2 by itself warrants a very high regard for the guy. He could spend the rest of his career making porn versions of Solitaire, and even then he would still be one of The Awesome Ones. And anyway, System Shock isn't the only good thing he has done.
