Maria Caliban Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 I prefer to complain about serious issues, like when they shut down the Ice Cream shop that was just down the street from me. Tragedy! I'm really not joking, every time I pass that place I sigh. It was dang good Ice Cream. Marble Slab Creamery. I've been to several Marble Slabs. The toppings are great, but the ice cream itself is average. Addition: I may be thinking of Cold Stone Creamery. Hmm.. "When is this out. I can't wait to play it so I can talk at length about how bad it is." - Gorgon.

Cold Stone seems to be more popular and more common, but I don't enjoy their base ice cream as much.

Killian Kalthorne Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 John Romero should be the only person on that list. Who? "Your Job is not to die for your country, but set a man on fire, and take great comfort in the general hostility and unfairness of the universe."
Slowtrain Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 John Romero should be the only person on that list. Who? lol. Poor John. Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. Hurlshort Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 It will be interesting to see who cracks the top ten. My money is on Miyamoto taking the top spot, with Will Wright close behind. I expect Sid Meier to get at least top 5. Richard Garriot will also probably settle in around 9 or 10.
Pidesco Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Kojima will probably be in the top 10 too. And perhaps Ken Levine because Bioshock is in fashion. Gabe Newell will be there for sure, as well. Also, Sakaguchi and Carmack. Oh, and Warren Spector. With these and yours we have the 10 places filled. Personally, I think Doug Church and Yasumi Matsuno both deserve a spot, but they won't get one. Edit: Well, I just checked the latest entries, and Ken Levine has shown up, already. Moatilliatta Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 (edited) Reynolds should have been higher. I wouldn't argue that he should be higher than Sid, since most people wouldn't accept that, but he is pretty damn good and, as many people notice, he has done more and better things than Sid recently. I'm mostly just waiting to see what position Spector gets as the rest aren't nearly as interesting. Anyone gonna comment on Harvey Smith's position? Edited March 4, 2009 by Moatilliatta
Slowtrain Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Anyone gonna comment on Harvey Smith's position? Stop causing trouble! Why is he higher than Levine? They have had similar careers but Levine's is better. I guess maybe through his association with Spector. Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. Moatilliatta Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Better by which scale? Any of you guys played Cybermage: Darklight Awakening?
Slowtrain Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Better by which scale? I don't know. WHich one are we using? Any of you guys played Cybermage: Darklight Awakening? Awesome game. Way ahead of its time. One of those totally forgotten should be classics that gets none of the attention it deserves. Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. Moatilliatta Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 (edited) I assumed that you had one in mind since you suggested that Ken Levine is better than Harvey Smith. I'd just pick the one that would make Harvey Smith the best. Edit: Is Cybermage playable (fun) today from a gameplay standpoint? Edited March 4, 2009 by Moatilliatta
Slowtrain Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Edit: Is Cybermage playable (fun) today from a gameplay standpoint? It depends what you can tolerate. As a shooter, it feel slightly more sophisticated than Doom. But the levels are great, the weapons are cool, the world environment is fab. Again, this is all for its time. There's even a story. Kind of. I'm thinking it was the first shooter I ever played that had sort of "real world" levels that were part of each other. There was also exploration and stuff. SOme cool AI battles. Tanks. Flying cars. Bars. Hookers. Rocket guns. What more could you ask for? Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. Pidesco Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Personally, if Levine was as important to its overall design as it seems, I think System Shock 2 by itself warrants a very high regard for the guy. He could spend the rest of his career making porn versions of Solitaire, and even then he would still be one of The Awesome Ones. And anyway, System Shock isn't the only good thing he has done.
