I thought the bow-guy was fine (maybe it helped he was cute? haha) for what the role called for. I mean, it wasn't a complicated role he had there, or anything. Echo's handler is the character that interested me right off. In a series where the main character (Echo) constantly changes or is a 'blank slate', one needs a constant chr. to gain sympathy/focus. I think the handler would be that, for me. He can kick arse in an efficient, impersonal way when he has to but obviously has potential moral dilemmas and emotional bonding with Echo. But it wasn't the type of show that makes you love it first sight. If it sticks around, I have the feeling it'd be the kind of series where everything would grow on you and by the end of a season you'd like it. Of course, the trick is to keep people watching for that whole season... “Things are as they are. Joss got bored, though: "it's Fox who's gonna notice" and copied a random anime I didn't see the pilot but I caught the 2nd one last night, and thought it was ok. Every writer has a miss for idea/concept. This may simply be his. As I think RDM is due for a miss and it is going to be caprica but I could be wrong. The pilots and the double headers where all excellent though. 45 minute intervals seem to spell doom. It's plenty of time do do nothing, and not enough time to do something worthwhile. Echo's progression of seeming to remember itty-bitty memory/feelings despite mind programming/wiping could be interesting, but unless the show becomes consistently better fast, probably won't last long enough for us to care to watch it. The possibilities for cool personas are limitless, but Joss goes with a negotiator, a date and a frickin' singer? How about an astronaut or a scientist or something? Oh my god, a bored pop star wants to die, stop the presses! I liked the cute girl next door and most of the Dollhouse scenes. It's cool that Victor the russian mobster is also a doll. I though that the twist itself was cool, but the presentation was pretty bad. It ended up as just another rich spoiled brat who is bored with life and wanted to die. I can't carry a tune to save my life, but it usually feels awkward when someone is singing without any music. I'm pretty sure it was her singing(Whedon has a thing for people who can sing. The singer has to have good voice control to sound great w/out music. Popular solo singers don't usually have to the control of, say, barbershop quartet singers to sound fine behind the music. And backup singers even less. I didn't think her singing in the show was that horrible. It felt more Whedon-ish, even the secondary characters were interesting(the thieves and the intern girl). I liked the initial fakeout with the fake hooker and the wipe made things really interesting. I think that Eliza can play the tabula rasa Echo well, but is lacking a bit in other rolls. I keep thinking that Dichen Lachman(Sierra) would make a better main character, she sold me on Taffy way better than Eliza. Even the Victort/Paul scenes were pretty interesting this time around. What happened to the first three episodes, Whedon? Were you sleeping in the writers room? If the other episodes are at least as good as this then there might be hope for Dollhouse yet. EDIT: It's funny that they managed to find another set of high heels and leather pants for Sierra-Taffy, they must keep a lot of kinky stuff around Dollhouse. I am sorry I continue to compare the two, but one would expect a writer/director to improve upon previous work, even if it's not in the same genre. I occasionally use them to catch up on something, but watching on my pc monitor is not the same as watching it on the huge TV in HD. I'm visually spoiled now, and it's hard to sit still for less. We don't have a DVR at the moment, and I miss it. Plus my computer isn't set up with a comfy lounge chair, so it's not very appealing to watch TV on it. heh I think one of the issues I'm having with the show is that I thought originally it was supposed to be about rich people getting fantasy dates or social thingies, and it seems to be moving in the direction of it being rich people using the service for dangerous criminal missions. Which is it? The boss constantly mentioning the danger-risk percentage of a mission but allowing it anyway is akin to Kirk always mentioning (and then ignoring) the Prime Directive. “Things are as they are. You could always hook your computer up to your TV... This episode was okay, I like last week's better, but it wasn't bad. Maybe I just don't like suicide cults all that much, bank heists are way cooler. Everyone seems to be out to save their own ass, the evil ATF guy seemed a bit forced. The shower subplot was pretty funny, but what the heck was up with Adelle's speech at the end, it didn't fit her character one bit. Also nice seeing poor Mellie and Dr. Saunders get some screen time again. Next week is supposed to be the holy grail, so keep your eyes peeled. We've done enough routers, switch-boxes and internet/cabletv wires in the attic/walls/running down the hallway to connect our multitude of internet pc's and small bedroom tvs in 4 different rooms as it is. My pc in here, big TV out there....more work, more wall/attic holes, not worth the effort. Plus the hulu vids would probably look terrible on a 50". Astute observation. It's nice to see the "imprint of the week" stuff take a step back and focus being more on inner-Dollhouse dealings. Even Eliza managed to be funny for a few scenes. Poor Sierra, I knew from the start that it was her handler, that dude looked pretty skeevy from the start. I hope she isn't permanently scarred. Also nice to see Mellie finally get lucky. I didn't get the point of sending the handler to Mellie, only to get him arrested, though. They could just as well have boxed him in the dreaded "attic" or just have him be killed. I don't really know what to make of Echo's little speech to Ballard, I would think that it was all engineered by Adelle, but there probably is a anti-dollhouse thing out there. It's pretty obvious that there are more dollhouses out there. Maybe Alpha added the "message" to Echo's imprint? I really liked the news clips with people talking about the dollhouse "myth" that, along with the man who hired Echo do a great job of obscuring the morality of having programmable people. This is pretty much the episode where the story really gets going, it's a bit hard to get into it without seeing at least one of the previous episodes.
