Is it as you expected? This is all that is left - an empty chamber, and an echo of what once was. SEGA's actions have crippled the Aliens RPG, perhaps destroyed it.

This particularly rapid, unintelligible patter isn't generally heard, and if it is, it doesn't matter.

This post is not to be enjoyed, discussed, or referenced on company time.

Josh is to Obsidian what Gabe Newell is to Valve or the doctors to Bioware: It just wouldn't be the same anymore without him.

Bioware already is shockingly different, sadly today having some names attached to a project merely spells potential. It's getting boring waiting for the planets to align over a project, especially nowdays when they orbit different suns.

What do you mean with "shockingly different"? Bioware is just adapting, nothing wrong with that.

So whats the rumor now? Live or die? life support?

Officially it's still in development, but inofficially it's put on ice.

If style over substance is your thing then sure they are just adapting.

Obsidian definitely needs J.E.

He's often a good critic in pointing out gameplay mechanic flaws and fairly often able to reign Obsidian reasonably grounded with realistic expectations with what they are able to achieve in their means instead of trying to overachieve in the limited period of time.

Otherwise, Obsidian would end up like Troika for trying too many things at one time, too little time or not enough resources to implement.

"Stick to D&D, always an audience ($$$$) and seriously lacking in quality games....not a bad idea"

This must explain why many D&D games bomb. In fact, I'd bet its neck to neck of which side wins - D&D games that succeed and D&D games that fail.

BIO games keep getting better, and better espicially role-playing wise.

As for the actual topic, meh, rumours/myths/innuendos are useless unless proven as fact.

Agreed

"Such as"

Do you really need to ask such aquestion? Ignorance knows no bounds.

Here's some food for thoguht: POR2, TOEE, and DTU are just a very tiny sampling of failed D&D games.

Sales figures to prove POR2, TOEE, and whatever DTU failed? Or you talking out of your ass as usual? Making it as you go along :)

TOEE and POR 2 were both bug filled messes, I would be surprised if they didn't break even though

I liked the tabletop style system implementation, the quest was a joke though.

I don't know, but that does not sound like a horrible failure to me, am I wrong?"

LMAO You care claiming 128k units sold is some sort of success? It's a failure. It should also be noted that both Atari, and Troika had every intention of making sequels to it but Atari put the kobosh on it because, yes, TOEE was an absolutely horrible failure. This is a fact. Same with POR2. Why do you think NWN got a sequel (and expansions) and those two games didn't when all three were released all around the same time? The answer should be obvious. NWN was a success. POR2, and TOEE were not. Deal. Don't be delusional.

P.S. It is really wise to admit to working on a failed project on your resume? Talk about a red flag...

I agree with everything V said except the last part. If a game was a commercial success or failure it moot, all someone reading you resume wants to know is about experience. That is the point of a resume, if V was right on this level no one who has ever worked for a company that went under, chapter 11, or did not meet market expectations wouldn't be able to get a job. That is just silly.

I will preface this with assuming you were not the project lead or lead designer. THAT might then cause a little bump in the road during the interview but that is easy enough to get around if you have some tact. As a whole a programmer or sound eng. on a game isn't going to be looked down upon his skills because a game did poorly retail wise. That speaks little of his or her skill.

For either God can not prevent the mischief of Satan, in which case he is not omnipotent; or else He could do so if he wished, but will not, in which case He is not benevolent. Fortunately, being a pagan witch, I am not called upon to solve this problem."

Expecting "innovation" from Bioware is like expecting "normality" from Valve -Moatilliatta

I am not an expert on computer games costs, or sales. (are you?) Did it brake even? Turn a profit? I never claimed it was a success, only that a D&D licensed game will make money, but I guess I should add that a quality D&D licensed game will make a profit, to argue against it is silly since the audience is clearly there. The only 2 examples (out of how many?) you sited were bug ridden messes that received horrible reviews, but TOEE still pulled in $5.2 million using a storyline that many pnp players are already familiar with.
