Well, If the game IS canned, will they at least show what they had so far?

You mean like with Van Buren? Design documents, artworks, screenshots, video and then techdemo.

That's only possible after Black Isle tanked and the developers quitted.

I think they really did want to do an Aliens event last year, the problem with that is, the Aliens games are not ready to be shown to the public yet.

J.E. has been saying that he's ready to show off Alien for several months.

I'm pretty sure that they wanted to hype Aliens RPG after Colonial Marines would be published. hyping two Aliens games at the same time could be quite confusing for some people. Also it could create unnecessary marketing competition beetween two projects.

I for example think that giving OBSIDIAN more time on polishing Alpha Protocol could mean only good thing and I'm pretty sure that the hype machine should start very soon. If Sega in fact didn't cancelled Aliens they can become my favourite publisher at the moment

That might be the case, but I was under the impression that what they were planning to do was hype both of them off of the others hype... urh.. if that makes sense.. lol.

Oh well who knows now!?

. I said it before its down to the fiscal year. Sega Japan won't start rewarding any new funds to Sega west until the final report is ready in March, that's when everyone will know whether ALIENS will still go ahead. Until they know the scale of the losses and profits that will determine the overall budget Sega west will get for next year beginning in after March 31st, any big game won't get finished(or canned) until they know the results in Japan. Its no coincidence that Gearbox, and even Silicon Knights are suffering from the same problem which is being aggravated by this big recession. My guess is not whether the game is being canned but how much budget Sega can afford to continue the project. AP has become a very expensive project for SOA and ALIENS RPG is also going the same way and haver probably used up the money asigned to them specifically the latter. AVP will be coming out in 2010 in the spring so i'd expect that the other two will join them. The problem is if it wasn't for kotaku opening their big mouth, no onewould be none the wiser about the game's current situation. After all its not like this is the first time a big project gets put on hold for awhile, only to continue production later on.

It's not good enough! I want confirmation!

Hey now, my mother is huge and don't you forget it. The drunk can't even get off the couch to make herself a vodka drenched sandwich. Octopus suck.

Still not good enough I want trailer as an apology!

I want an Aliens trailer from this guy

Me too, Pablo Francisco is an awesome comedian.

"One alien"

"One game"

"2009"

Wow. This is out of CONTROL!

The Breakdown Begins this May.

Also out of Devs

HOPEFULLY he's being trasnferred to other projects as a senior designer instead of Lead. Otherwise the delay of the Aliens RPG would be beyond 2010.

Or.

As Pop said it, J.E's getting a new job. But didn't he get a promotion just a month ago or something?

Or a new job.

Do not even discuss such a possibility! That would be a disaster! :p

"Geez. It's like we lost some sort of bet and ended up saddled with a bunch of terrible new posters on this forum."

I doubt he was offered the promotion as an enticement to stay on the job. He was given the promotion in recognition of the work he was doing on Aliens, lots of work, committed work, work which might now be wasted. If I was in his position, having multiple projects pulled out from under me over my career, not feeling as though the work I had been completing was fulfilling its potential, I could very well contemplate finding a new calling. I ain't saying that's what's happening presently, I'm just saying. Somehow "a new ADVENTURE" doesn't strike me as the sort of thing someone refers to when he is doing more or less the same thing with his life, just with a different focal point. But that's me. Josh has already lost a good many babies and it stands to reason that if that sort of thing really bothered him that much he would've packed his bags years ago. He's shown a lot of passion for his work. So don't despair, yet.

Certainly we're all hoping it's an innocuous remark and we're all rending our clothes over nothing. Maybe he's starting a new D&D campaign and is really excited about his new ADVENTURE. But we ought to prepare ourselves for the possibility that our fears are founded. It would certainly be a tremendous loss to our little community, Josh has far and away been the most engaged Obsidian employee, and he's given us some good times, and some good advice, and a lot to think about. But life can happen, unfortunately.

All things considered this is, however, another big red flag against Aliens RPG's chances.

Old Josh, he works hard, and then he ends up on canned projects. IT GENUINELY SUCKS!

I came up with Crate 3.0 technology.

Crate 4.0 - we shall just have to wait and see.

Down and out on the Solomani Rim
Now the Spinward Marches don't look so GRIM!

Maybe he's just started a new D&D session.

NWN2 X3?

Blackhound?

Stick to D&D, always an audience ($$$$) and seriously lacking in quality games....not a bad idea

I could very well contemplate finding a new calling.

That pays as much? Good luck

Not everything is about money.
