Which films should I bother with?

Alien 3 is at least much more well-acted than Aliens. A bunch of great British actors put to waste, really.

LoL...cmon you cannot be serious dude...........

A bunch of whacked out pedophile retards running around screaming...You actually find them more interesting that the 2 first crews in the first 2 movies? Bah.

Alien is an absolute masterpiece, so if you don't like it, you suck. (or you don't like scary movies)

Wacked out pedophile retards are more interesting than space marines talking like 8th graders, yes; I didn't compare it to the first one. And you don't seem to understand what "well acted" means. But the movie was much worse.

Oh Jimmy, you were so funny.

I hold the very unpopular opinion that Alien 3 is a better movie than Aliens.

The part I enjoy most about Resurrection is the laser whisky cube. I suppose it's a sad thing that such a tiny event in that movie is my favourite.

( Whatcha talkin' bout willis? )

I was talking about two different things. Is the question about why I like Alien 3 better than Aliens, or is it about laser whisky?

Haha, the question was for why you liked Alien 3 more than Aliens? I hated that whole setting, it was too earth like plus the scenes where its running around like a dog...I dont know Alien 3 bombed for most people.

Since this is a thread about which movies to watch I should warn that there's...

SPOILERS BELOW!

I liked the setting.

I thought the whole prison colony that has become religious thing was interesting; they didn't go into too much detail, but I actually like a little mystery there too.

Sigourney shaved her head. (Didn't look bad that way, either.)

I like that there's only one alien.

I like the extreme close-up scene where the alien inspects Ripley.

Bishop's death scene was great.

I like the weird relationship between the doctor and the other prisoners.

Alien 3 was the first one I was old enough to care about when it was being advertised, so I get nostalgic.

I like the alien's-view camera shots, climbing on the ceiling.

I like that the guy cleaning the vents is screaming the song "In the Year 2525" while he works.

I liked that the alien could take a different form from a different host, which was a concept not established in the previous two movies.

I like that Ripley dies.

Edit: also, Roc. Everybody loves Roc.

Aliens is definitely one of my favourite movies (my hallowe'en costume last year was solid proof of this), and I've watched it many, many times, but if you ask me which is better between it and Alien 3, I will say Alien 3. The execution is not always solid, but I really do enjoy what's there. Maybe for me killing aliens isn't as exciting to me as running from them. Maybe I just like watching things explode when you pour molten metal on it. Maybe living through all the ads and hype for this as a kid drove up my anticipation and my experience of the movie was forever heightened by this. I'm not sure what all the contributing factors are, but my subjective call is that Alien > Alien 3 > Aliens > Resurrection > AVP. (Haven't seen AVP2 yet.)

You're not missing anything not having seen AVP2, IMO.

I liked the setting.

Disagree, looks too earth like, not enough sci-fi/space environment, tunnels are boring, they screwed up here.

Not many people can relate to religious rapers. Was a bit too wacko for early 90's, maybe not in the UK.

I like that there's only one alien.

AGREE! The Alien shouldnt always be depicted as a hive/colony mindless drone, it's fine on it's own.

I like the extreme close-up scene where the alien inspects Ripley.

Not bad, maybe a bit too glossy in some scenes.

Bishop's death scene was great.

Cool.

I like the weird relationship between the doctor and the other prisoners.

Again, a bit too wacky, I prefer the humans to be more normal so you actually do care when they die, maybe it would be different now, who knows, back than it was weird.

Alien 3 was the first one I was old enough to care about when it was being advertised, so I get nostalgic.

I remember watching Alien commercials and Alien on Betamax Video, that was a great moment in film history for me.

I like the alien's-view camera shots, climbing on the ceiling.

If i remember correctly, it crawled like some lizard, I wouldnt show too many shots of that, like in Alien, I think it takes the mystery away of how such a huge thing can crawl...

I like that the guy cleaning the vents is screaming the song "In the Year 2525" while he works.

Yeah, that's cool.

I liked that the alien could take a different form from a different host, which was a concept not established in the previous two movies.

No,no,no dont go down this route, it wont work, it will kill the franchise. Alien Gorillas, and Alien Lions.......zzzzzzzz

I like that Ripley dies.

Too bad they brought her back, she actually thinks she's the franchise? I thought the Alien was the franchise.

I like the alien taking a different form when born from a different organism.

Hey now, my mother is huge and don't you forget it. The drunk can't even get off the couch to make herself a vodka drenched sandwich. Octopus suck.

You're not missing anything not having seen AVP2, IMO.

AVP 2 was slightly better than AVP, which might be reason enough to not to see it.

Strangely enough, I kinda liked Alien 3 very much. So it's Alien > Alien 3 > Aliens > Ressurection.

AVP2 was not better than anything.

anything

It's better than Barney.

No, no it wasn't. It was far worse IMO.

Yeah, that's kinda how I feel...at this moment I'm having a hard time thinking of a worse film I've seen.

And I've seen a lot of bad films.

It's better than Barney.

*thinks* Barney is only a half hour, so if I had a choice of being tortured with an episode of Barney or AVP2 I'd go with Barney.

Now if we're talking a 24 hour loop of either...well by the end I'd be insane or dead, so I'm not sure the how matters that much anymore.

Predator was actually a badass in AVP2. Everything else was crap on both movies so that made AVP2 better in my eyes.

The one Predator was almost competent - at least compared to the ones in the first film and the shipload that the pred-alien killed in the begining of the second. Hardly noteworthy.

To me AVP

What's noteworthy is that you watched AVP2 after watching the first movie. One would think that the first AVP was enough horrible pain.

I liked the first one.

The original Predator with Arnie was on Tv just the other day. Awesome movie on so many levels. (one of them is that Arnie talks his best English ever)

Thats the only movie anyone needs to concern themselves with when talking about Predators. The rest didnt happen.

I also liked Alien3 very much. there were some small details in it that i didnt like but overall great atmosphere, great characters and sense of isolation and overall going back to the roots thing.

A lot of people at the time expected Aliens on Earth story, since it seemed like it was moving in that direction generally so while being disappointed it didnt go there i was impressed with general ballsines of it.

Guess it falls on to you guys to go Earth run over i guess but the nice thing about it is that you can still show infestation taking over fringes of human systems in detail (through various missions and such) too, unlike movies which must be focused on singular story.

IIRC the original script for the third Alien film would have been on a space station, with the movie ending with the idea that the aliens were going to earth (hidden on a crago ship) to set up a fourth film. All that got scrapped though.

Don't watch Rezzurection as an alien movie. If you watch it after Sin City, Grindhouse, and Spiderman, and you'll get it.

A:R is not an alien movie. It's a spin off. Deal with it.
