January 23, 200917 yr Let's get down to brass tacks. Will we or will we not be able to make sweet fade-to-black love to an Alien queen?
January 24, 200917 yr I would not expect romances unless they served some purpose ie a hook, or a catalyst for stress / drama. You have to care about the characters for horror to really work, unless it's slasher sort of stuff, which is pretty bottom of the barrel. Aliens wouldn't have worked without the mother/daughter thing with Ripley and Newt, for instance. For some reason it's difficult for a lot of games to have well-established, relatable female characters without some sort of romantic element attached to them. I guess because it's an easy way to relay information on a character's backstory. In Mass Effect, Ashley wasn't very interesting if you were a female character (some would say she was never interesting) and that goes double for Kaidan, if you were a male character. You learn very little about Kaidan as a male Shepard. And besides, it just sort of hangs over games. Falls-From-Grace had a completely platonic relationship with TNO but at least 95% of players were expecting there to be tension there. You could probably chalk that up to her race, I suppose. January 24, 200917 yr Thanks, Josh. Honestly, I've got no problem with romance in games (well, when done right, e.g. PS:T, and not the BG2 kind of trash that makes people like Dark Raven swoon), but I am really not a fan of mixing horror/thriller with romance.
January 24, 200917 yr Author No, but the facehugger will get to do it to you. What if you play a female?
January 24, 200917 yr No, but the facehugger will get to do it to you. What if you play a female? It does it to you thrice? This post is not to be enjoyed, discussed, or referenced on company time.

January 26, 200917 yr Do we at least get a cigarette after (and before the inevitable)? I cannot - yet I must. How do you calculate that? At what point on the graph do "must" and "cannot" meet? Yet I must - but I cannot! ~ Ro-Man
February 3, 200917 yr No, but the facehugger will get to do it to you. I'm not sure that counts as romance unless you're one of those Japanese shut-in guys. "It wasn't lies. It was just... bull****"." -Elwood Blues tarna's dead; processing... complete. Disappointed by Universe. RIP Hades/Sand/etc. Here's hoping your next alt has a harp.
February 4, 200917 yr Do we at least get a cigarette after (and before the inevitable)? Only if you remembered to equip the cigarette.

February 4, 200917 yr Do we at least get a cigarette after (and before the inevitable)? Only if you remembered to equip the cigarette. Spoilers! See, if you had a cigarette in your mouth, assuming that even fazed a facehugger, wouldn't it just cause a faceful of deadly acid? Don't be messing with canon, Sawyer. February 16, 200917 yr Smoking just doesn't turn on the facehuggers like it used to. You'd think someone would point out that the facehuggie has bigger things to worry about than lung cancer when facing a facehugger. I cannot - yet I must. How do you calculate that? At what point on the graph do "must" and "cannot" meet? Yet I must - but I cannot! ~ Ro-Man
February 16, 200917 yr Nothing is more important than lung cancer. NOTHING. Hey now, my mother is huge and don't you forget it. The drunk can't even get off the couch to make herself a vodka drenched sandwich. Octopus suck.
February 16, 200917 yr I don't know about romances, but the game should feature a pet the PC is very attached to... like a cat... named Jonesy. If you don't keep it safe your character falls to his/her knees and puts their head in their hands in shame and red lettering pops up 'YOU HAVE FAILED'.
February 16, 200917 yr That is the best. Idea. Ever. Hey now, my mother is huge and don't you forget it. The drunk can't even get off the couch to make herself a vodka drenched sandwich. Octopus suck.
