Magister Lajciak Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Does anybody know when is the next major release from EA? I want to track the DRM situation there...
neckthrough Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Two new class-action lawsuits against EA over DRM
Magister Lajciak Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Ouch, but who knows how far these lawsuits will actually get. DDRM is nasty, but the legality of it is another matter.
Walsingham Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Ouch, but who knows how far these lawsuits will actually get. DDRM is nasty, but the legality of it is another matter. A shame it is not the British legal system. No legal agreement is binding - a EULA for example - if the terms are judged to have been unreasonable. The first of those two cases, as described, would almost certainly be upheld in favour of the plaintiff. "It wasn't lies. It was just... bull****"." -Elwood Blues tarna's dead; processing... complete. Disappointed by Universe. RIP Hades/Sand/etc. Here's hoping your next alt has a harp.
kirottu Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Two new class-action lawsuits against EA over DRM Wait... They put SecuROM in to Spore Creature Creator? It was free to download. What the hell? This post is not to be enjoyed, discussed, or referenced on company time.

Yeah, I think if EA got sued in some European countries, rather than in the U.S., it would be much more likely to lose. Alas, in Slovakia at least, people are very reluctant to initiate lawsuits.
mkreku Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 Interesting take on DRM: http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=289520 Sure, it's still limited installs. BUT, you can install on a bundle of different computers and play a LAN game with your friends for the next 24 hours! That's at least pretty fair since that's all Sacred is about anyhow. Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!
kjradio Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 The lawsuit is our national lottery. Cash prizes are given at many different levels. Top prizes are paid for death of a loved one, that's usually one of the best. Good...Evil... I have the gun.

karka Posted November 10, 2008 Posted November 10, 2008 (edited) King's Bounty demo also has StarForce. Edited November 10, 2008 by karka
Magister Lajciak Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 King's Bounty demo also has StarForce. ! I guess I am lucky it didn't do anything to my computer! Are you sure about this? The full English version of King's Bounty uses SecuROM, but without the limited installations and without the need for online activation, so it is only a disk-check (I know for sure - I bought the full game [bTW: It is excellent!]), but the Russian version does use Starforce (though the DRM has supposedly been completely removed in the latest patch).
Strix Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 But that makes no sense. Why would something freely distributed have DRM in it? No idea. Idiotic policies?

Gorth Posted November 16, 2008 Author Posted November 16, 2008 I haven't played X3 yet, waiting for my Joystick to arrive. Thought that I would install the latest patch in the meantime. Guess what? It wants to install some crap called "tages" on my system Maybe I should just stick with the unpatched version. Ah well, let's see when I finally do get to play it, how bad or good it is without the patch. “He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would surely suffice.” - Albert Einstein
Deadly_Nightshade Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 You can easily remove TAGES, just go to the main site and run the installer/uninstaller. This will remove the entire program from your PC -it's not SecuROM with it's permanent fixtures (However, you'll need a "fixed" .exe to play TAGES protected applications if you remove it). "Geez. It's like we lost some sort of bet and ended up saddled with a bunch of terrible new posters on this forum." -Hurlshot
Magister Lajciak Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 The Escapist Magazine Strikes against EA/Securom It's funny! Wow, EA, SecuRom and Sony are really starting to gain a superb reputation with their great DDRM-induced customer relations.
