August 8, 200916 yr But there is a volcano in the background! Deathdealer is right though, it is pretty nitpicky. It's a very functional cover, I've seen much worse. Edited August 8, 200916 yr by Hurlshot
August 8, 200916 yr Holy hell! Anyway, Piranha Bytes is german, and sorry all germans here, but german fantasy is pretty generic if you ask me
August 8, 200916 yr It would only be generic if there was also a hawt chick on the cover. The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.

August 8, 200916 yr Author There is no such a thing as German fantasy. There's only fantasy. Brothers Grimm? Risen is Brother Grimm? And since when do we count fairy tales as fantasy? Rain makes everything better.

August 8, 200916 yr Author Don't you ever get tired of being wrong, Morgoth? Don't you ever get tired of being a troll? Or can you tell me what's the difference between german fantasy game and fantasy game? Rain makes everything better.
August 8, 200916 yr Okay, maybe I need to clarify what I meant with german fantasy: In every german made fantasy game I have played female armors looked like they were ripped off from some pornmag, not to mention the females themselfs. Even though I am healthy heterosexual man, I kinda got the feeling that those games were made by horny teenagers to horny teenagers This is HOW I PERSONALLY FEEL, so no need to load your guns and climb to a tower if you disagree with me Edited August 8, 200916 yr by Slinky
August 8, 200916 yr Author I'd call that plain bad design. But maybe that is some specific German thing. Heh. Rain makes everything better.
August 8, 200916 yr By the way, did you know that the daughter of Terry Pratchett (author of the Discworld books), Rhianna Pratchett, is one of the co-writers of the Risen story? Pretty cool. Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!
August 9, 200916 yr I hate to break the streak by saying something nice, but I've been out to the Risen websites, hunted up screenshots and trailers, and I must say it looks like it might be quite a fun game. I'll wait to read the forums after it's been out for a bit, but unless gamers tout it as a buggy mess, I might pick this one up!
August 10, 200916 yr Having played all of the gothic games i would have to say that gothic 3 was the weakest and strongest out of all of them. The programming of gothic 3 was insanely weak and shoddy. The game was litered with bugs, it came out only months before vista was released yet the company made no effort to fix it for vista. As far as programming goes i have seen first phase betas more polished, infact most of the issues should have been fixed prior to any sort of beta. Also i do have to bring up that fighting animals never got easier, if you werent paying attention a wolf with nothing special about it would get his first hit off then you would be chained indefinately till death no matter your health. With that said it had some high points to, the story was good, voice acting was surprizingly good enough, and the one thing i liked most was every quest you did had an effect on the games outcome while mantaining an open world concept. So basically the game was both openworld and very liniar at the same time which gave players the feeling that hey what im doing right now does infact matter, which is very different then most RPGs which side quests done mean junk on the end result besides a possible good or evil shift which has become pretty common. I do plan on buying risen, however, i also plan for it not to work. I have learned keeping my hopes down will make me much more happy when im pleasently surprized all the time. Also im not going to bother looking up any screen shots, or learning about it at all because i have already decided to buy it and doing so might get my hopes up.
August 10, 200916 yr From what I've seen in the videos it recycles Gothic III combat animation, and has slightly better graphics than it. Other than that I hope it'll work. Imperium Thought for the Day: Even a man who has nothing can still offer his life
August 10, 200916 yr Author Good to know there will be a demo prior release. Rain makes everything better.
August 10, 200916 yr From what I've seen in the videos it recycles Gothic III combat animation... It really doesn't though. This time the combat animation reflects your characters skill. At the beginning you'll basically stumble around with your sword, stabbing your own leg. At the end of the game, you'll be able to wield a two handed sword in one hand (lame, I know). The animation sets will reflect this. I'm assuming you've only seen the beginners combat animation since those do resemble Gothic 3 a bit. August 11, 200916 yr So this means, we can have "Drei-handers" to wield two handed? IG. We kick ass and not even take names.

Stun-lock ftw. Any wildlife animal was more dangerous than an Orc (save maybe Orc shamans). The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.

It looks like the same fly swatting - whack everything, animation - yes (in one of the official videos). It wasn't really a criticism, just noticed it. I have high hopes for this game, or rather I have high hopes this game wont be as unplayable on my rig (Intel Core2Duo E6300, 3 GB RAM, and ATI Radeon 3870) as Gothic III was. Have you tried the latest Community Patch? It made performance a lot better for me. Fully patched up it still raked my hard drive to the point where it was uncomfortable to listen to, as for the graphical settings it could run tolerably only on the minimum to average. Oblivion/Witcher/Fallout3/Bioshock/NWN2 etc. run perfectly fine on maximum settings on the other hand. I have no idea what was going through their mind at the time. Goddamn it, I have to install Gothic II and actually finish the game. Edited August 11, 200916 yr by RPGmasterBoo Imperium Thought for the Day: Even a man who has nothing can still offer his life
August 11, 200916 yr Regarding performance - seems that the game will be cpu bound (more here), preview code runs ~25-30 fps on 3Ghz Quad, 4G ram and gtx 285 (max details, 1080p). Lowering the resolution doesn't help much and underclocking cpu sinks the framerate. I'm curious how well will it perform on Nehalem and Deneb though.
August 11, 200916 yr Banned in Australia again. Here's what ESRB has to say about it: http://www.esrb.org/ratings/synopsis.jsp?Certificate=27163 "Moral indignation is a standard strategy for endowing the idiot with dignity." Marshall McLuhan
August 11, 200916 yr They had to cut out the peeing animations for it to pass the Xbox ratings. Oddly enough the beheadings and sadistic violence were allowed to stay! Apparently it's worse seeing someone take a leak than actually performing a brutal murder in a game. Only in America. Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!
