Pidesco Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 I really, really want to see exactly how the action works. Release some sort of video the gameplay! I also notice that the clothing changes between screenshots. Can the player choose what to wear? Finally, the enemy looks a bit odd in this screenshot. It's the arm, mostly. the proportions seems off, and the hand is placed strangely. I see McSneakers' watch isn't placed weirdly like in that earlier screenie, though. Xard Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 (edited) Yeah, what I feared the most that this would end up as some silly, typical average run-off-the-mill agent story with better than average dialogues but that gave me new faith Syriana is fantastic film and if Obsidian really decided to carry its theme over to games... Greatness. This might be same thing to Bond etc. games as KotOR 2 was to your general Star Wars ****e "depthwise" Edited April 23, 2008 by Xard How can it be a no ob build. It has PROVEN effective. Slowtrain Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Syriana was the anti-James Bond film. You can't combine that sort of thing. Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. It's a useful skill to have particularly where you aren't allowed to call people names. It's a mistake to get too drawn in/worked up. I mean it's not life or death, it's just two guys posting their thoughts on a message board. If it were personal or face to face all the usual restraints would be in place, and we would never have reached this place in the first place. Try to remember that.

Well hello there Miss Negative, remember there are many kinds of Bonds. I hope you also noticed they said game was Bondy above all combatwise (understandable enough with all the superhero style agent skills), not much as been said about story, location and their themes, moods etc. before this Only anti-Syrianaish non-combat thing so far has been the chicks bagging but that's just one optional part of the game. Therefore I conclude it's not impossible for them to coexist Of course, better ending demanded What was wrong with the ending? Edited April 23, 2008 by Xard How can it be a no ob build. Slowtrain Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 hope you also noticed they said game was Bondy above all combatwise (understandable enough with all the superhero style agent skills) Syriana showed a world in which superhero secret agent skills are unable to resolve anything. The secret agent in Syriana was a fat middle aged man who ultimately failed to achieve anything except perhaps a small amount of personal salvation. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy James Bond films a lot, but to put the two film's world views together is just a really strange juxtapostion. Obviously our McSneakers is going to be able to cap some headshots day after day like a true pro and all the crap like that. Very bondish, not very syrianaish edit: this just occured to me, have you played KotOR 2? I'm probably attaching too much significance to the me mention of Syriana, but to me a game that was seriously like Syriana could be really fun and involving, but one would be hard pressed to make it an action game and still keep it "like Syriana" especially since one of the underlying resonances in Syriana is the futility of a man's action. To make the game really like Syriana the player character would have to achieve nothing and die at the end. Somehow I don't think that's going to happen in Alpha Protocol. lol. ANyway, no I've never played KotoR 2. Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. It's a useful skill to have particularly where you aren't allowed to call people names. mkreku Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Hmm.. While you're all rejoicing, this news disturbs me slightly. Please, Obsidian, show some integrity and common sense and don't make this about today's world politics. I saw one of the locations you could visit was Saudi Arabia.. the tone of the game is influenced by Syriana.. It sounds like a great platform for more American war propaganda. Please don't let every bad guy be a "foreigner".. and don't let us kill generic Arabian "terrorists" by the hundreds without consequence. Show us you have a wider view of the world than what FOX News brainwashes their audience with. Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!

SteveThaiBinh Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 I saw one of the locations you could visit was Saudi Arabia.. Ooh, is Mr. McSneakers coming to Saudi Arabia? Fantastic! I know some very hideous shopping malls that could do with a good blowing up (whilst empty, of course!) "An electric puddle is not what I need right now." (Nina Kalenkov)

Meshugger Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 (edited) Alpha Protocol wants you putting in the legwork, doing the reconnaissance, chatting up the receptionists and looking moody in fancy hotels - it knows the excitement isn Edited April 23, 2008 by Meshugger "Some men see things as they are and say why?""I dream things that never were and say why not?"- George Bernard Shaw"Hope in reality is the worst of all evils because it prolongs the torments of man."- Friedrich Nietzsche "The amount of energy necessary to refute bull**** is an order of magnitude bigger than to produce it." - Some guy
Morgoth Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Looks good, not overwhelmingly "I'll crush Crysis graphics!!", but I'm not the graphics whore type anyway. But please Obsidian, please do something about the look of Thorton. He looks like a French croissant-baker rather than some agent. He needs a tougher face. And I'm not so sure about the Syriana theme. I guess Obsidian aims for a more "intellectualized" (if that makes sense) ambiente rather than "Mr. President we have to make things exploding, because we're the good guys" sort of crap. Well, good luck anyway. And don't forget to make the chicks worthwhile. Rain makes everything better.
Arkan Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 So, what platform is this going to be on? "Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger." - Herman Goering at the Nuremberg trials "I have also been slowly coming to the realisation that knowledge and happiness are not necessarily coincident, and quite often mutually exclusive" - meta
Pidesco Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 I wonder if that Syriana thing means they've ready See No Evil. It would be awesome if McSneaker's relationship with the CIA took some things from that book.
