The first dev kit wasn't showing up on the network. The second dev kit had a bad build. So we grabbed a third dev kit that we knew had a working build. By the way, that TV is showing the first public footage of our game.

You're welcome.

I see...

1 desert

1 mountain range

1 blue sky

1 (out of 2) cinematic black "frames"

Conclusion = It is cutscene on some desert planet/or simply desert enviroment.

Musings:

it is cutscene of our ship landing down on planet (like those always seen in Kotors), the ship itself can be seen descending down on the part of TV screen we do not see

it is cutscene with camera slowly panning accross desert until it meets some freaky alien or members of our team or some NPC's

it is cutscene about humongous anime explosion happening behind the mountain range. Pic is taken just before the explosion happens (this is however not very Aliens-like scenario so I doubt it)

edit:

Admit I'm right! :p

(unrelated= I didn't know J.E. likes fencing. Cool )

One thing that worries me a lot apart from the fact that this is gonna be a rpg game, is that if you are gonna use the good alien designs like the Giger,s one or if you,re going to do a massive use of the bug-like "Aliens" design, I,ll explain better, to see the aliens constantly crawling and wall walking like bugs worries me to tears..., will there be aliens with "Human" attitude and way of walking like the first one?

We will survive Galm 1.

I don't think they're mutually exclusive. The visual design of the Alien changed, but it's not clear that their mode of movement did. In Alien you don't really see the xenomorph move at all, save for when he whips around to face a character. That's because they weren't using animotronics. Alien had very DIY special effects. "landing tremors" were just guys with 2x4s jarring the camera up and down from below, and the Alien itself was a tall guy in a rubber suit, like Godzilla. But that was by design, as you're not really suppose to see the Alien.

When we talked with ADI about alien movement, they made it clear that the movement of aliens in each film was primarily motivated by how restricted the suit was. That's why the creature in Alien barely moved, the Aliens creatures had a bit more speed and motion, and the creatures in Alien3 and A:R were hopping all over the place.

I really liked the way the first alien behaved, it was like a human and I think that,s more frightening that behaving like a bug crawling and wall walking. This applied to an rpg game should be cool.

It's always goood to know what peopel like, but a lot of people are going to be more freaked out by bugs. I mean, think how many people are bug-phobic.

Yes, the idea of turning the alien, the human alien I mean not the dog alien, into a mindless bug should be better for gaming purposes, specially for a first person shooter like the one from gearbox, but if this is gonna be an rpg, then terror, darkness and such known things from the alien franchise should be taken in count. To me, the alien which comes from a human should be mostly like a human, and this implies no wall walking, crawling and such.

I,d just like to point out the fact of the killings; if you see alien, then you realized that in most of its kills, the alien first showed some sort of curiosity on its victims (Lamber for example) and didn,t terminate the people at first sight like in aliens or alien3..., it was just behaving almost like a human, but with its inherent hostility of course, but the human behaviour prevailed too. So I mean, It would frighten me much more the fact to see alien slowly getting close and curiosily looking at me before the killing blow than a mindless bug jumping from the ceiling or wherever and killing me in one second.

Of course you gotta add to this the Giger,s look and type of alien, which was taller, with that grey and smooth head..., even the original sounds, specially those one when Ripley fries it when being in the pipes and just after this, those ones while it stands up so pissed with her.

All I wanted to say is that the original Alien was not created as a bug in Giger,s mind..., it was just an hybrid between the alien specie and the host, and if the host is a human, the incoming alien can not behave and be like a bug, and using this kind of alien for the rpg game should be the right decision.

Well I guess they evolve? Will that mean the AI in the game will catch on to things quicker?

"Alright, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade - make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons, what am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager. Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons. Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons. I'm going to to get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!"

Thanks for the awesome avatar Jorian!

I really wonder if Aliens press event will take place in September as Sega of America president promised.

I really wonder if they are going to promote both game(FPS a RPG) at the same time. And if not which one will be left behind.

It's really about time Sega gets going to promote A:CM and Alpha Protocol, since both games are slated for Q1 09, right? AlienRPG is slated for Fall 2009 I think, so they might hold it back a bit longer.

Hmm I am not so sure. Recently I have just finished reading Alan Dean Fosters ALIEN novel, for the first time. Had the book for years, but never read it until now, and while events in the book are identical to Ridley Scott

It wasn't until later that they started to make the Aliens smarter and smarter. In fact, I didn't even really find them THAT smart in James Cameron's version either.

That's because Aliens was first and foremost an action movie, and in action movie you need fast and brainless cannon-fodder, and not slow and intelligent creepers.

Though that the aliens sometimes attack blindly on, that might make you think that the aliens are stupid. They are not. In aliens the camera is more focused on the psychological level of the marines as they experience the theme. there are many hints that the aliens are pretty damned smart in the movie by action and comment from the mariens

sargothsigcopy.jpg

I don't think they were smart.

They flung themselves at those sentry guns pretty stupidly, until they swung to a different axis. I've observed such behaviour in ants. 'Cutting the power' frankly was much more likely to be them dicking around accidentally, or all that blood destroying the systems.
