M games that would have been better rated AO

I doubt the belief that the religious are behind the anti-violent videogame movement. Unless you're arguing that the non-religious are okay with murder. Those in the movement just happen to often congregate behind religious banners, probably due to their being so many of them.

The anti-violent videogame movement comes from the fact that, culturally, videogames are still seen as children's toys, and as such they should never be violent. I'd say twenty years will be needed until people really stop caring about violence in videogames. The same thing goes for sex, of course.

Only in America is it ok to show games with graphical violence = Good

games with sex = bad

Imagine a mature rating in Kotor 1. Instead of a kiss that fades to black, you get to bone Bastila and show it. o:)

Dreamweb blazed a trail. It had pixelated **** in it and everything. Wasn't particularly necessary though.

Did Bloodlines have any nudity in it? VV's strip club? I can't remember.

No actual nudity to my knowledge. There was certainly enough tna to make it close enough.

Victor of the 5 year fan fic competition!

Kevin Butler will awesome your face off.

There are Bloodlines mods that give the game nudity.

I... see. And where could one find said mods? o:)

I would post a link but it may get me in trouble since it has some of those mods nude screenshots on the site.

There was going to be fully nude NPCs, but that got canned halfway through development, although you can still see the signs if you look closely at certain characters -for instance, the strippers have a carefully placed tassel to cover the original module-.

If you've got money to burn it's probably more practical to get a realdoll.

Ew.

Please. I've my dignity to think about... I'll stick with Raven.

I am firm in giving equal time for men and women getting equal nude time in games. After all, why should the male gamers get all the fun? Anyhoo, I think a AO version of Mass Effect would have been cool.

Mass Effect should be rated E

E for excellent? Seriously, I see your point, as there are plenty of TV shows that are even more violent. Still, I can see a Teen rating based on the fact you can make some pretty murderous decisions in the game, if you are so inclined. But an M is a pretty long stretch.

I think the M rating was for the partial nudity in the game. They should have full nudity and realistic gore effects. EARN THAT AO!

In Australia MA15+ is the highest a game can be rated (as opposed to movies which can be rated R18+, or X18+ for porn). MA15+ is for strong content while moderate content gets an M. Strong content in games usually means violence.

Mass Effect is rated MA15+, apparently for strong themes, sex scenes and drug references. It's also the only MA rated game in my collection that doesn't include strong violence, or a violence rating of any kind. That sex scenes earn a greater rating than violent content is no surprise, but I don't know what strong themes refers to. I was actually wondering if suicide is considered is included in that, as the few moments that occurred in the game stood out more than usual, especially since I kinda

talked one dude into it

Mass Everyone.

It's just amusing to consider what is and is not acceptable as far as that M-rated ceiling goes. Violence can get as gory as it wants, but as soon as a developer sticks in some pixelated boobs, the Puritan Police come zooming in on their tricycles. Case in point: I picked up one of the import versions of The Witcher, simply 'cause I didn't really do my research on the differences between the US and UK versions and was led to believe there was some content cut in the former. As I understand it - and I could be wrong - the only real difference is that the US version removes a lot of the pixelated nudity - which is all far from OMG PORN anyway, mostly because it's, you know, pixels. While it's a good-looking game, it's still more comic than hot. The storylines involving rape, torture, murder? All fine and dandy, apparently, and you can still lop a guy's head off with your sword.

I don't have a problem with either of those aspects, myself. And I honestly would like to see what developers can do with storytelling when it comes to the AO rating; I think there are probably some game writers out there that actually could pull off an interesting, engaging story with mature themes that'd run over the bounds of M. It's not going to happen, though, because economically, that's a death sentence, and I don't get why. The average age of gamers keeps going up, I hear, and as much as a Mature rating might mean a game's intended for 17+ or whatever, it really is sort of the PG-13 of the gaming world. Either that, or there are a hell of a lot of guys playing shooters via the internet on various voice chats who haven't had their testicles drop by the age of 17.

As far as a game being better if it were allowed to go to AO rather than M? I don't think there're any out there. The Witcher might've ended up less comic vis a vis the ridiculous number of times Geralt gets laid, but that's about it. But it could be done, I'm sure. I don't think Schindler's List would have been nearly as good of a film if it'd been PG-13, for example.
