WILL THE ALMIGHTY Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 Given that money could have gone to - I don't know - orphans or the truly mentally ill, cancer research etc... I think he should be told to go feth himself. That's what I was thinking too... Somehow, I have a feeling he's faking it. "Alright, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade - make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons, what am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager. Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons. Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons. I'm going to to get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!"
Wistrik Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 Cool. I'll quit my job and claim I have a disability that prevents me from being able to conform to rules of the workplace, and that I must be allowed to do whatever I want at home as a form of therapy. I also expect to receive medical and dental benefits, and it should be tax-exempt income because it's going to a good cause. Really though, this is utterly pathetic and sets a bad precedent.

Meshugger Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 I like metal. Hell, 80% of my records and my iPod playlist consists of metal. Where's my money? Show me the money! Sand Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 Hmm... I wonder if I can get the same benefits if I play Enya and Yanni obnoxiously loud. Gorgon Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 (edited) I wonder if I could swing being classified as a comic book and computer game adict. If i got the right case worker I bet I could make the sale. hmmm.. It's okay, the Swedish civilization will collapse under the unserviceable debts before he lives to old age. Actually the Sweedes are doing just fine fiscally even with their almost unprecedented redistribution. If you have a hightly skilled workforce globalisation is not necessarily going to spell the doom of a wellfare state. Aram Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 So now some business is being forced to put up with some mutant-looking dumbass playing obnoxious music and never showing up, and pay him?

SteveThaiBinh Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 Very strange. I think this is the key point for me: "If somebody has a gambling addiction, we don't send them down to the racetrack. We try to cure the addiction, not encourage it," he said. I'm not opposed in principle to using public funds to help this guy overcome his addiction (though I might be opposed on grounds of prioritising use of finite resources, given the apparent lack of support for this decision from experts in the field), but state support has to be part of a plan to get him off this music and thus off state benefits. "An electric puddle is not what I need right now." (Nina Kalenkov)
LadyCrimson Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 I thought that was the key point, too, Steve. This sounds pretty ludicrous, from what I can tell, in my book. “Things are as they are. Looking out into the universe at night, we make no comparisons between right and wrong stars, nor between well and badly arranged constellations.” – Alan Watts

Gorgon Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 (edited) It seems like a choice between having a deadbeat on a wage suplemented job as opposed to having no job at all. Now obviously 'metal adiction' is utter baloney, but if he needs to have the job center sweeten the pot in order to have anyone hire him it might well be a win - win situation regardless. Meshugger Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 Did it ever occur to the guy, that if he loves metal that much, he could get a job as a roadie? Problem solved without any state-funding.
