Jimi's head is powerful. Its effects on a level design are potent.

I think the real question we should be asking in this thread is "How is dodger going to screw this up?"

The answer? By not implementing ninjas or Hendrix.

"Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."

Ninja Hendrix!

4. After playing an exhausting battle in two levels, I don't think people like hearing Goto saying, "I want you to save the Republic". Where am I going? Well, I think Obsidian will mess the Alien game up with lines like these. There was only one conclusion I wanted, "I wanted to kill off GoTo." If you develop a story where a goal is taken away once you reach the end, people are going to be turned off. Allowing the PC to deliver justice is important. If you remember the television show "Earth Final Conflict", the good good guys allways lost their progression. Every time they got a cool weapon to fight their enemy, or they cornered an enemy, the good guys kept falling short. EFC was canceled because viewers didn't get their justice. Obsidian did the same thing to the end of KotOR II. We need justice or revenge to be delivered.

I didn't care for having G0-T0 as a party member. He never left the Ebon Hawk by my choice -- however, this was because I more preferred lightsaber- and force- wielding jedi/sith people around me. Also the fact the only droid worth taking along, ever, is HK-47. That said, I actually thought the twist of not being able to kill him was kinda cool, and the way the plot advanced afterwards with him along was well done.

And, just to point out,

you did manage to weaken him, however temporarily, by facilitating the destruction of his yacht and the re-establishing of Vogga the Hutt's pre-eminence on Nar Shadda, which also gave Telos a new fuel source. Oddly enough, given what you learn about the importance of a successful Telos Restoration to the Republic, you gotta wonder what G0-T0 was thinking by keeping Vogga from supplying that fuel.

EDIT: nevermind. >_<

I took this job because I thought you were just a legend. Just a story. A story to scare little kids. But you're the real deal. The demon who dares to challenge God.

So what the hell do you want? Don't seem to me like you're out to make this stinkin' world a better place. Why you gotta kill all my men? Why you gotta kill me?

Nothing personal. It's just revenge.

2. Creative writting limitations. Obsidian has some great ideas, but they are not creative enough to execute them. A few months ago, I read that one of the writters hates 'romantic' stories. If you cannot write good romance, action, or epic storylines, I don't think they should be writting sciencefiction.

I hope you're not referring to me, because that's not how I feel. I don't like the sort of romances that seem to appeal to many gamers, because I think the romance arcs are usually shallow and poorly developed. The Aliens series really only has two romances of any real magnitude: between Ripley and Hicks in Aliens and Ripley and Clemens in Alien 3. Arguably Elgyn and Hillard also had a romance in A:R and Vasquez/Drake in Aliens, but those were pretty short-lived as far as audience involvement is concerned. Anyway, Ripley's romances were romances that I consider to be "good": chemistry develops in realistic ways and at a realistic pace -- and importantly, in ways that fit well into the rest of the established characters and universe.

I have nothing against romances in game storylines. But I would definitely argue that romances in the Aliens universe are very different from romances found in a lot of popular RPGs.

About source material, repeat after me: THERE IS ONLY ALIENS (Maybe some AvP, maybe some pulp and Alien...)

I never saw a romance myself in any RPG that actually spiked my interest. Those who tried mostly ended up being superficial and corny...probably the devs never met a woman in real life. Heh.

I do like the subtle approach in HL2:Ep1 with Alyxx, though. The way she's worried about what will happen to the PC, the occasional smiles, slightly embarrassedly hair stroking, some occasional compliments, that sort of stuff. It's all about developing affinity to the character, over the gameplay, not in cutscenes.

I'm still curios though how Bioware will handle romances in Mass Effect. And the sex scene. :)

Has anyone thought about using Drama theory to work around one?

And yet romance always crops up as something 'fans' (okay, forum members, perhaps not quite the same thing) really appreciate in RPGs. There were several very active threads, and a lot of fanfic, generated by the romances in Kotor 1, and even the undeveloped romance possibilities in Kotor 2. I don't think 'romances' should be inserted into the Aliens RPG no matter what else is happening, but I'd like the relationships between the characters to develop realistically, including physical and/or romantic relationships if these are plausible in light of the characters' personalities and the situations in which they find themselves.

I don't necessarily want to be running for my life down a dark spaceship corridor pursued by a vicious alien only to be interrupted by my companion who appears to 'have something on his mind' and thinks this is a good moment to share the story of his dead wife and/or child.

I feel that romances were nice in BG2 because they were new, but after BG2, romances haven't really gone anywhere. Romances may even have gotten worse over the years. I can't stand Carth and Bastila because of them.

Despite my rantings against BG2 romances, I did like them. In general I do like them, I just really see Sawyer's point of view. BG2's were especially nice because they were part of a very large component of interaction with your NPC companions.

Wait, which is the flame and which is the flower?

At first I read flamethrower, which means I was basically really disapointed.

This game needs either a flamethrower or an Acid Spraying gun. OR BOTH!

"Alright, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade - make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons, what am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager. Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons. Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons. I'm going to to get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!"

An acid spraying gun could be the most useless weapon ever devised to fight Aliens.

"Show me a man who "plays fair" and I'll show you a very talented cheater."

Still cool.

Doesn't have to be against Aliens, I suppose. There ought to be plenty of other enemies - human or otherwise - to get your teeth into. I think I'd like to spend a lot of this game being afraid of being attacked by Aliens, but not a huge amount of time actually fighting them.

Reminds me of a pnp character played by a friend he would confront vamps and say things like "I bet you won't like this sprayer full of holy water!" The vamp would typically stand there laughing and receive a good blast ecause vamps aren't vulnerable to holy water. Whereupon my friend would inform them that it was actually holy sulphuric acid.

Did I already post in this thread? No matter, I don't remember.

Anyhow, Obsidian mismanaged their time and had trouble meeting milestones with KotOR2.

The way NWN2's release was I would hazard a guess the same thing happened there but I don't have the insider information for them I do for Lucasarts product.

So, I'll go with they'll mismanage their time and have trouble meeting their milestones.

RIP

I might have agreed with you at one point. But Mask of the Betrayer breaks the run of not-quite-finished releases - it came out in excellent condition, with a completed story and no more bugs than most games.

I will agree with you when they can release a game that is not an expansion pack that way. Less work goes into an expansion pack than a full game release, etc. etc. etc.
