So what exactly do you think they're going to get all wrong? Unoptimized engine, perhaps? Bad voice acting? Returning frost darts? Abrupt endings? Too much exposition? Sega ad placements? Clumsy interface? A spirit untrue to the Alien franchise?

We do so love our boys in Obsidian, and we know too well how hard they try, but they can't make everything roses. So go ahead and tell me: How will this game disappoint you?

Lower your expectations and you will never be disappointed.

They can screw this up by making it a FPS and real time.

You're halfway there, in that case. It's kinda hard to replicate the immediacy of the horror elements of Alien in turn-based play. You want to ensure that there as few opportunities for the player to relax as possible, especially in combat.

So, they are making it into an action CRPG as in Jade Empire but with facehuggers?

They can screw it up by introducing significant melee combat for the humans. You don't whip out a sword against Aliens! And nobody is stupid enough to try without a Power Loader!

But, I have faith they won't do that.

I thought that was Fallout 3. :)

They are not mutually exclusive. They can screw up both games by doing that

Considering their track-record, making a game that they want isn't their biggest problem. A sound production plan and management is

Chris Avellone in his blog here said "There were some concerns floating around about Aliens being an action RPG, so I thought it would best to clarify. While there will be action elements to it, it is still an RPG in every sense of the word."

He also linked to one of his stickmen drawings on his myspace (it's the 4th one down), which is very reassuring. :-

I love his drawings.

And I'd personally want real-time combat - or at least the illusion of it; ie, you could pause the game to give orders if you want, or you could choose not to pause and see how you fare ... up to the player. I dont mind turn-based when it's done well, but it does tend to ruin combat suspense, for me.

Still gaming with my 9900k/2080ti/32 ram. One day I suppose a game may inspire me to finally upgrade. Maybe.

I predict that the case in which my game comes will have a two centimetre crack along the front, near the bottom right-hand corner.

Curse you, Obsidian! You have failed again!

What bothers em is the fact that I've read a tonne of Aliens comics and they're all pretty same-y.

How can it be a no ob build. It has PROVEN effective. I dare you to show your builds and I will tear you apart in an arugment about how these builds will won them.

Hehe, that comic sums up, not only what I fear, but what I expect. Even with MCA onboard it's hard to not lose faith when the big boss says that the lighting is the biggest problem with the NWN2-levels.

Oh, and how Obz will screw it up? It'll be consolized! For newbs!

I think it's safe to say that you and I are not looking for the same thing in level-design. And since this is the internet we won't come to an agreement no matter how much we discuss the subject. But I do feel I have to point out at least one think I found worse than the lighting. After all - it's too easy to just say 'No'.

1). Corridors disguised as open areas. I can understand why they went berserk with the walkmesh cutter - poorly optimized engine and all - but I'd take an open area over graphics any day of the week.

2). Too many enemies just standing around waiting to attack and get killed.

3). No areas that made me go 'Wow, that's imaginative, who the hell came up with that?'. And that's nothing lighting will help fix.

4) No fun little details and no flavour text - things that spring from developers who love what they're doing.

They can make it completely linear and take place in one spaceship.

Oh, and they can make it 2D, isometric and turn-based. Now that would be a true financial suicide!
