Hurlshort Posted May 5, 2007 Posted May 5, 2007 Or you could go buy UFO: ET from www.matrixgames.com and experience Xcom with an updated graphical engine. Seriously, it's a very nice tribute project, and it's already recreated a few Xcom moments for me.

Seriously, it's a very nice tribute project, and it's already recreated a few Xcom moments for me. Steam also has UFO: Afterlight. They aren't, in any way, the same game. ET is an attempt at recreating Xcom in almost every aspect, including turn based combat, UFOpedia, etc. Afterlight has some of the Xcom spirit, but it's a real time combat game.
Spider Posted May 5, 2007 Posted May 5, 2007 RT with pause, though. Just to clarify for those less informed. Autopause can be configured so that it plays round based if that's a preference (personally I hate the autobase and have all options off).
Big Bottom Posted May 5, 2007 Posted May 5, 2007 (edited) Well, I bought it but it fails to run on my XP machine...it says now loading X-Com etc and then just doesn't do anything. A few people on the official boards have had the same problem. It's not Vista coimpatable either, apparently. Edited May 5, 2007 by Big Bottom The best flash game ever!
Walsingham Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 Well, I bought it but it fails to run on my XP machine...it says now loading X-Com etc and then just doesn't do anything. A few people on the official boards have had the same problem. It's not Vista coimpatable either, apparently. Sorry to hear that. I thought the x-com games were available from abandonia.com "It wasn't lies. It was just... bull****"." -Elwood Blues tarna's dead; processing... complete. Disappointed by Universe. RIP Hades/Sand/etc. Here's hoping your next alt has a harp.
Gorth Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 There is a patch/loader somewhere on the net that I downloaded and tried a a few months ago. It works nicely with the Win95 compatible version of Terror from the Deep. I can't say if it does the same for the Steam download version. Otherwise, try giving Dosbox (maybe with a graphical frontend like DFend for ease of use) a try. I'm having a blast these days running X-Com 3 on that “He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. Darque Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 I still need to track down a real copy of this series.
Zoma Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 X-COM... gives me a sense of nostalgia how golden and pure computer games were back then Now most of the games are just like junk food.
