You're saying you haven't seen Fight Club or Seven? Those are two of my top five movies of all time. They are simply amazing.

Alien 3 is probably his worst movie though, but that's to be expected since it's also his full-length debut (he did music videos previous to that). I still like it a lot. I have once in the past said that I liked it better than Aliens even, but I think I'll have to go back on that with some more perspective. I do still think it's better than Resurrection since it re-establishes the one scary alien part, which I vastly prefer over tons of scary (or in the case of Resurrection, not so) aliens.

The interesting thing about the Alien movie franchise is that it reinvents itself which each movie. The first one is a horror movie, the second a action movie. The third a character drama and the fourth an adventure movie. So instead of doing the more of the same, only bigger type sequel that is so common in movies, they're taking chances and attempting to break new ground. That is to be applauded, although it doesn't always turn out well.

So when are we getting an Alien RPG forum?

(Go to 'Boards' at the top then 'Register' its totally free.)

They are talking about the Something Awful forums, where JE posted that he is the lead designer for the Aliens game.

OHH oops my mistake saw 'SA' thought Sega America..

That doesnt explane what this guys on about then:

That explains it.

But still, milking money for forums? SEGA... :p

Well, I'll register there later.

I think the Alien films are as much about relationships between humans as conflicts between humans and aliens.  Alien is a great horror film and Aliens a great action film, but I think their character interactions are more important to their success than the raw horror or action elements.

What about character interactions between Aliens? will we get to see that?

Maybe something like this:

You don't have to pay anything to register at SA but you only get some of the forums and features unless you pay.  At least, that's how it worked when I registered a few months ago, I didn't pay a penny.

not true. there's been a fee since 2001 i think. there's no way you've been abled to register for free unless some bought you a gift account.

The fee comes and goes in my experience.

I wonder how the character system will be. Sills, abilities, classes or non classes based. It shall be interetsing... Open forum, Obs!!! And, here; not just at Sega!!

DWARVES IN PROJECT ETERNITY = VOLOURN HAS PLEDGED $250.

I wonder if this game got announced a bit early...

Yeah, you're right. I think I got confused by the fact that you can still read the forums without having registered. Sorry.

Not earlier than Dragon Age.

I'm curious how much control of the game mechanics, systems, rules, settings, content, etc is in Obsidian's hands and how much is going to be dictated by Sega.

I remember when Josh was doing IWD2, some of the stuff he wanted to do got nixed by WoTC. Of course, there was an established rule system that Josh was working with. With the Alien IP, I would assume there isn't any such existing, and Josh pretty much has a clean slate to work with. Ii think it would ne neat of Josh got a pretty free hand to work with. I also hope the game ends up with an M rating. A game set in an ALien universe should grim and hideous, I think.

In a good way, of course.

Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. It's a useful skill to have particularly where you aren't allowed to call people names. It's a mistake to get too drawn in/worked up. I mean it's not life or death, it's just two guys posting their thoughts on a message board. If it were personal or face to face all the usual restraints would be in place, and we would never have reached this place in the first place. Try to remember that.

JE as lead? I'm guessing Action RPG, yes? He's been arguing for good action gameplay in RPGs. I totally support that.

Alien 3 would have been a lot better had Fox not interfered with it so much. There was a lot of disagreement between Fincher and the studio.

I'd much rather have seen the original treatment which was to have the whole movie take place in a monastery planet with lots of monks and absolutely no weapons.

That doesn't mean my PC can run it. Then again, 2009 isn't that far away!!!

It is a fact of playing games that you will need to invest in hardware every couple of years, whether it be $500 consoles or $2400 computers...

If so, you are incontrovertibly wrong.

From what I know of past projects Sega have done with other companys

Sega will give the developer an idea of what they want from the game

and let the developers get on with it and they will view different builds of

the game as it progresses and check quality.

They may already have story ideas or settings for the game like they did

with 'Condemned' But they pretty much let the developers get on with it.

A good thing is they wont rush Obsidian too get the game out quickly.

You can quote me on that much.

My three year old computer cost 1500 and it tackled NWN 2 quite well. I only had to buy 7600gs for 110
