You don't have to pay anything to register at SA but you only get some of the forums and features unless you pay. At least, that's how it worked when I registered a few months ago, I didn't pay a penny.

I got banned a week into registering. Waste of 10 bucks.

not to throw a wet blanket on the party, but keeps in mind that josh is a wynona rider fan... and ms. rider were in alien:resurrection. am hopeful that josh is willing to throw wynona under the bus this once... not want his alien game to be getting much inspiration from resurrection.

we kid... though josh is a wynona fan for some inexplicable reason.

in any event, Gromnir is not a fan o' franchise games. too many masters.

even so, we did like the first two alien flicks... though for complete different reasons.

not true. there's been a fee since 2001 i think. there's no way you've been abled to register for free unless some bought you a gift account.

you have to pay 10 bux. it's totally worth it though.

Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. It's a useful skill to have particularly where you aren't allowed to call people names. It's a mistake to get too drawn in/worked up. I mean it's not life or death, it's just two guys posting their thoughts on a message board. If it were personal or face to face all the usual restraints would be in place, and we would never have reached this place in the first place. Try to remember that.

I wouldn't pay $10 to register on any forum no matter how 'good' unless I have a brainf art. I've read those forums before. It's no different than any other forum. Just anothe rbunch of internet geeks that think their poo don't smell and beleive 'their' forumers' are better than anywhere else. The $10 is simply used to make the posters feel they are part of a 'special' club. They're special alright.)

As for the game, interesting. Let's see hopw Obsidian approaches this game. Is it a full RPG, Action RPG, or Spaghetti RPG?

DWARVES IN PROJECT ETERNITY = VOLOURN HAS PLEDGED $250.

I have no idea how Alien RPG is going to turn out.

Me neither, so it has me really, really intrigued. Obsidian has touched my special place.

Ah, the place of wonder and excitement.

This should be interesting. Like some here, I'm having a bit of difficulty reconciling the Alien franchise with an RPG. (Disclaimer: I haven't seen either of the first 2 films in a loooong time, and I've never seen the others.)

A lot of what made the Alien movies memorable/frightening is the sense of solitude and isolation (i.e., the whole "no one can hear you scream" bit). On the other hand, RPGs shine when the main character gets to interact with other people.

Also, most players already know a lot about the Aliens we'll be dealing with from watching the films. Obs is going to have to get pretty creative (or special license from the owners of the franchise) to really surprise us.

As long as my npc companions don't shred me in the back with smartgun, I'll be happy.

The scary part is they are modeling the game after Alien Ressurection."

What was bad about Alien Resurrection?

It was better than Alien 3. :/

It was much as Fallout Tactics. A decent movie in it's own right, but kinda crappy as a sequel to Alien since it radically changed a lot of the themes that had been building.

Edit: And it was not better than Alien 3. But I really like the way David Fincher does movies, so I'm a bit biased I suppose.

I felt like there was enough time between them for some change, but I agree anyways when you say it like that.

I think the Alien films are as much about relationships between humans as conflicts between humans and aliens. Alien is a great horror film and Aliens a great action film, but I think their character interactions are more important to their success than the raw horror or action elements.

Ewww at me liking Alien 3 or David Fincher? Or my horrid mispelling?

I've always loved the Alien creatures, if not some of the movies. The original movie is still probably the scariest of the bunch, at least in terms of atmosphere, and I liked the action in Aliens. The other two movies weren't that great, though it was fun seeing Ripley being part alien.

The games haven't thrilled me much so Obsidian will have to pull out all stops (and write better code) if they're going to get my money on this one. I want to be scared because I wasn't being vigilant, not because the game unrealistically spawned an alien right where I was previously standing.

Just Alien 3. I haven't seen anything else Fincher has directed so I can't comment on him directly.

Fair enough. As I said, it's been years since I've watched the films. I do remember the "mess room" scenes in the first film being particularly compelling for their dialogue, etc.
