It's saintfrancisnudecenterfold...

Can I get your autograph... only forummember to get totally abused by Joseph Bulock for being totally unrealistic and insulting?

... Note how I wrote your name correct this time Mr. Bulock... please don't harm me :ermm:

EDIT;

Now that I think about it, Centerfold; Do you still confuse BioWare and Obsidian with each other (seeing the thread you do)...?

Well, I don't mind talking about the Bioware/Sega MMO...

I think the setting will be fantasy, because every other frickin game that has had success has gone down that road.

I would prefer a post-apocalyptic setting. Basically a Fallout MMO. No damn vehicles either...they should come up with some oil theory behind that.

I would say if Obsidian does make an MMO they should go the Bioware route and make a separate studio dedicated to managing it. Also they should follow the Guild Wars model. Best MMO I have ever played. I am actually liking it.

agreed, because it is a 24-7 proposition...you need real-time admins, phone support, etc.

I say companies like Obsidian should explore alternate means of multiplayer, using NWNs as the prime example and exploring premium content downloads (also something BioWare has done).

What I like about the 360 is that you can get what amounts to a debit card for premium content...I don't like the idea of using an actual credit card for something like that.

Feargus has gone on record saying that he doesn't want to do an MMO.

He didn't say he didn't want to, just that they'd need to carefully consider whether Obsidian was prepared for the consequences of managing one.

I think it would be madness for OE to make an MMO since its impossible to include what OE does best; story and characters, into such a game.

No matter how you twist, turn and/or abuse it, MMO's are about

  • Grinding
  • Looting
  • Levelling

And not the best designer in the world could find a workaround. Many have tried, all have failed. Most MMO's doesnt even have fun combat which makes it even worse.

Guild Wars is barely a MMO though. It's really just a series of chat rooms with small instances you can join. That means it's much easier to manage. DDO is the same way, except they charge you money to play every month.

I like the Guild Wars business model...they are selling you the "main story", not through expansions or subscriptions but by buying a new shrinkwrap every time you want more of the story.

The main reason I quit playing is that people kept complaining that I was moving too slow (those few instances where you have some other player with you). I will probably continue playing once I get a suitable gaming rig.

I think it's a great model as well, and I don't regret picking up the game, even thoigh I never fully embraced it. I really hope they can maintain their bottom line with just expansions. It also sounds like it's one of the best games for PvP, although that doesn't interest me personally.

I just don't consider it a MMO :)

Well, its not the typical MMO and that is why I probably like it.

If it is, then it is, and if not then it's not. Does it really matter if Big Bottom is Feargus? Just another poster to me.
