Darth Drabek
Hey, maybe Cowher will be on the market again by then, too. I'd love to see The Chin get in Shockey's face and give that punk an earful. On the other hand, a reunion with Plax might not be that enticing for Cowher. I don't know, I can't wrap my head around the possibility of him coaching anywhere else than in Pittsburgh. I guess we'll see though. baby, take off your beret everyone's a critic and most people are DJs
Volourn
Shockey is awesome. Any coach who disses Shockey should be FIRED right on the spot. That's why Coughlin was at least smart enough to take it from both Shockey and Barber when they called him out. Not to mention, 3/4 of the rest of the tgeam. Burress is awesome. He enarly won that game for NY single handedly. Yes, I said. Burress was the Giants; not that piece of crap cowardly Barber. Though; I'll take Cowher any day over Coughlin. Laozi
I have to pick NO over Philly this wee though it kills me. Lito Shepard being out for the game is a big boon for the Saints and their #1 passing offense. On defense I'm sure they will simply cue on Westbrook, who got screwed in the probowl voting, and without McNabb to make plays the Birds offense will get grounded. Normally I would think that Phillys special teams could help pull it out, but unless Westbrook returns punts, this is a lackluster group. As for Chicago and Seattle, I think Seattle will try and force Grossman to make plays against them, which normally would work, but their defense is not spectaculiar. I think the Bears defense will make enough plays and put the offense in good positions to get points. The Ravens kill the Colts, Manning throws his teammate underneath the bus again after the loss. Ray Lewis will have a big game stabbing and slashing through the Colt's offensive line. Everyone knows once Ray smells blood it is almost impossible for him to contain himself. Ed Reed is good too. Finally the Chargers end all this Patriots Superbowl talk with a good win. The Pats will over committ to stopping L.T., the greatest football player on the planet, and Antonio Gates makes them pay for it. The Pats have a difficult decision, either commit Rosey Colvin to covering Gates and lose him as a pass rusher, or let him try and rush the QB and have Gates go crazy on them. Either way the Pats will have trouble containing Merriman and Castillo as they brings the juice from the outside. Chargers get a couple of scores late to seal the deal. Laozi
Oh and Shockey is a turd, lots of players do the same job just as well without as much self-promotion. Jason Whitten for the Cowboys is a good example of someone who puts up great numbers, is a superb blocker and doesn't thump his chest everytime he makes a play or whine when things aren't going his way. The Giants currently have a culture that promotes losing, and players like Burress and Shockey are just as responsible for it as anyone else, with the possible exception of Eli Manning. Volourn
"lots of players do the same job just as well without as much self-promotion" Really? 'Lots' of tight ends in the NFL do the same job just as well as Shockey/ That's baloney. there's a reason why he's been a PB nearly every year he's been in the league. Sure, he's very opinionated; but that doesn't make him evil. It means he's not afraid to give his opinion. he has ballz, and isn't a coward. "The Giants currently have a culture that promotes losing, and players like Burress and Shockey are just as responsible for it as anyone else," Bull. The Giants' problem is their pathetic coach. Burress, and Shockey promote a culture of winning. Burress pretty much did the last TD drive for the Giants solo (with an assit abrley by Manning). In fact, Burress is responsible for 17 of the Giants 20 points. The reason why the Giants didn't score more is because Eli forgot for some reason who the best receiever is on the team. Shockey always plays hard, and has a drive to win that is outmatched by pretty much everybody as evidenced by him fighting for yardage even after losing his helmet while alreayd playing hurt. How the heck does that encourage a 'culture of losing'? Burress is awesome. Of course, he wnats the ball. Because he knows what to do with it. The game would have been a blow out if it wans't for him. Not that stupid loser, patheticly coward Tiki Barber. Calling Shockey a turd just shows you know very little about what makes a great football player. Shockey doesn't whine. He tells the truth. It sure beats playing tiddlywinks, and acting liek you don't care. btw, I've seen Whitten thump his chest plenty of times. And,d eservedly so when you make a good play. It's not like Whiten's team did any better either. DWARVES IN PROJECT ETERNITY = VOLOURN HAS PLEDGED $250.
Dark_Raven
Shockey LOLZ. IF I was the coach and he got up in my face calling me out, I'd send him to the showers. Than I would give him some time off. New England sucks I was hoping that other sucky team the Jets would beat them but no. Go go Colts, go go Seattle! Hades was the life of the party. Laozi
Sorry Volorn, but you're just completely wrong again, and most people around football would agree. Winning teams don't have guys complain to the media everytime he doesn't agree the gameplan. Coughlin is a proven winner, and so was Fassel when he was with the Giants, what happened, whining players turned the fans against them. The Giants have Tiki Barber, Plaxico Burress and Shockey, and only one ball, good teammates understand and know that their time will come. And, yes this is sort of a golden age for the position of TE. The reason Shockey makes the probowl has just as much to do with playing in New York and having their fans in his jock then anything else. Cooley, Smith, and Whitten, and Shockey all play in the NFC East and all are probowl calibur, thats just one division in football. People laugh when I say that I think a jellyfish is one of the most beautiful things in the world. What they don't understand is, I mean a jellyfish with long, blond hair. kumquatq3
Burress is awesome. I'm basically in your corner about Shockey, but my god, Burress is soooooooo over-rated.
Volourn
"most people around football would agree." Really? Do you listen to the announcers? They pretty much gave Shockey verbal sex on air on Saturday. And, if people around football would agree with you mostly, why is Shockey a perrenial Pro Bowler? *shrug* "The reason Shockey makes the probowl has just as much to do with playing in New York and having their fans in his jock then anything else." False. He made the Pro Bowl because he's one of the best tight ends in the game. His numbers are impressive espicially with Barber being a ball hog. "but my god, Burress is soooooooo over-rated." Meh. he's undderrated. I do agree, hwoever, that burress 9unlike Shockey) does have a habit of whining once and awhile. But, overall, he's a darn good wide reciever. Maybe not 'one of the best'; but definitely up there. Did you see him on Sunday? He WAS the Giants' offense. "Cooley, Smith, and Whitten, and Shockey" And, Shockey is arguably the consistent best out of all 4 which is why he is consistently in the Pro Bowl. "Coughlin is a proven winner" Stop living in his past. Coughlin is the moron who came in, and pretty much right awya fined one of the most popular Giants ever for being EARLY to a team meeting. Bullcrap like that is what cost him this team's respect. He also supposedly has a rep for having disciplined teams yet the Giants' biggest weakness is most likely the silly penalties they take which is directly linked to poor coaching. Not to mention retarded decisions like going for a near 60 yard field goal with a kicker who has NO CHANCE of making it which leads to a TD and made a agme that was actually close into a blow out. The guy is a moron. Perhaps, the game has passed him by. I was happy when the Giants first signed him; but right away he proved how much of a joke is. "IF I was the coach and he got up in my face calling me out, I'd send him to the showers. Than I would give him some time off." Then you'd be a poor coach who'd rather have drones and not passionate players who actually care about winning and losing. Sports is as much about passion as it is about skill hence why I say good riddance to Barber. "but you're just completely wrong again, and most people around football would agree." Back to this very asanine comments. The facts, and the evidence illustrate otherwise. 1. Most knowledgeable about football do nothing but praise Shockey. Did you watch the game on Sunday? 2. Most football analysts think that burress is a great reciever; but they all agree he is prone to 'whining' at times. And,. after Sunday, I don't blame him. When Manning went looking for Burress, the Giants put points on the board. When he didn't, they didn't. Coincidence? I think not. "so was Fassel when he was with the Giants, what happened, whining players turned the fans against them." I liked Fassel a lot; but it's not whiny players who turned the fans against him (I never did, anyways) or Coughlin. With Fassel it was simply a poor record, and with Coughlin; it's a combo of dissapointing record and the simple fact is that it's hard to support a coach who brags about discipline yet can't follow through on it, and is very stupid decisions ala FG, silly fines, and general moronicy. If a coach is just getting one player claling them out then maybe it's the player acting up; but when it's basically an entire team... perhaps, the coach *is* the problem. Imagine that? If we are gonna give creddit to coaches like Paxton, Smith and others for doing good jobs; we should be able to punish coaches when they do poorly like Coughlin did this season... just like we do with players. It's not like NFL coaches are underpaid, afterall. DWARVES IN PROJECT ETERNITY = VOLOURN HAS PLEDGED $250.
Laozi
Antonio Gates is the leagues best tightend then probaly Tony Gonzales then its anybody's guess, but those two are really the only guys who have the tools to be physically dominate no matter who they play. On PTI the other day they specifically talked about the play where Shockey got his helmet knocked off and about Shockey. Both said about the same thing, the play was alright, but that it happens a couple times a year and they were not that impressed. Both guys said that they like to watch Shockey play, but neither would want him to play for their team. Volourn
L0L PTI Those guys are a joke. Are they your exmaples of 'kowledgable football people'. L0L Gates, and Gonzales are both greta; but Shockey is up there with them. And, he does dominate against anyone. "but neither would want him to play for their team." 'Cause they aren't about passionate football playin'. Or winning. L0L PTI I'm talkin' relaly knoweldgebale football people. ie. the ones who actually do football orineted programs. You know, the ones who announce the games, the ones who analyze the games in the pre and post games shows on FOX, ESPN, NBC, and CBS. The ones who actually have former players on their shows. Not two dinks - entertaining dinks mind you as I find PTI fun to watch (and, even agree with 'em sometimes) - who randomly spout nonsense to hear themsleves talk. I don't take them seriously as they apparanantly don't. DWARVES IN PROJECT ETERNITY = VOLOURN HAS PLEDGED $250.
