ramza Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 This one seems quite interesting but I really wondered if it was worth watching. I really liked the games and it appears that the movie's story is more or less similar. For once, it seems that a game was successfully turned into a movie (not like Resident Evil). Yeah, I know, they still made some big changes in SH (the main character is a woman and not our dear friend Harry)... but it doesn't really matter. I have read some good reviews about it but I just wanted a few other opinions before going to the cinema with some friends. Btw, I wondered if I should go see it with friends who have played the game or just with friends who don't care about videogames. I am afraid that the latter will ruin my mood if they start uttering things like "oh, that's a crappy movie". Cheers. "Ooo, squirrels, Boo! I know I saw them! Quick, throw nuts!" -Minsc "I am a well-known racist in the Realms! Elves? Dwarves? Ha! Kill'em all! Humans rule! -Me Volourn will never grow up, he's like the Black Peter Pan, here to tell you that it might be great to always be a child, but everybody around is gonna hate it.
Volourn Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 (edited) What was so wrong with the RE movie? I thoguht it did what it was supposed to do... and, did it with HOT chicks! P.S. As for the topic, I have seen SH. I don't go to the theatres. Edited April 27, 2006 by Volourn DWARVES IN PROJECT ETERNITY = VOLOURN HAS PLEDGED $250.
Walsingham Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 I'd recommend it. Very atmospheric, and truly unsettling in parts. Won't say more. If you really hate it, you can bill me. "It wasn't lies. It was just... bull****"." -Elwood Blues tarna's dead; processing... complete. Disappointed by Universe. RIP Hades/Sand/etc. Here's hoping your next alt has a harp.
ShadowPaladin V1.0 Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 Comes out tommorow I think. Probably wait till it's on DVD. I have to agree with Volourn. Bioware is pretty much dead now. Deals like this kills development studios. 478327
Lucius Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 Liked the games, very scary, is it anything like the games? DENMARK! It appears that I have not yet found a sig to replace the one about me not being banned... interesting.
Hurlshort Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 I'm a huge fan of the Resident Evil movies. I actually like them better than the games. I'm not quite sure why people complain about them.
LoneWolf16 Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 (edited) Some stuff was ungodly stupid in the RE movies...like professional soldiers standing still and letting lumbering zombies tackle them kind of stupid. All in all though, entertaining, if angering 'cause of the total lack of sense. Edited April 27, 2006 by LoneWolf16 I had thought that some of nature's journeymen had made men and not made them well, for they imitated humanity so abominably. - Book of Counted Sorrows 'Cause I won't know the man that kills me and I don't know these men I kill but we all wind up on the same side 'cause ain't none of us doin' god's will. - Everlast
ShadowPaladin V1.0 Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 Zombies were probably not a big part of basic training. I have to agree with Volourn. Bioware is pretty much dead now. Deals like this kills development studios. 478327
Walsingham Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 Zombies were probably not a big part of basic training. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Surely this should be in the military spending thread? Yeah, go see it. You will be entertained, and ghorrified. Which, given it is a horror movie, should make you happy. "It wasn't lies. WILL THE ALMIGHTY Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 Silent hill looks so... do i have to say it? if i go see that movie my pants will be wet... "Alright, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade - make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons, what am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager. Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons. Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons. I'm going to to get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!"
ramza Posted April 27, 2006 Author Posted April 27, 2006 IGN has reviewed the movie and it says that gamers will be disappointed because there aren't any REALLY scary scenes... I wonder if that's true... "Ooo, squirrels, Boo! I know I saw them! Quick, throw nuts!" -Minsc "I am a well-known racist in the Realms! Elves? Dwarves? Ha! Kill'em all! LoneWolf16 Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 Zombies were probably not a big part of basic training. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Nope, but that didn't seem to bother their peers, the three who knew to, I dunno, run. Moose Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 The trouble with the Resident Evil movies is they were serverely dumbed down for the mass audience. Any Resident Evil fan worth his weight in salt will know what I mean when I say they completely botched the essence of the storyline, turning the films into some rather dull attempt at a horror movie, rather than the tragedy that unfolded in the games. There are none that are right, only strong of opinion. There are none that are wrong, only ignorant of facts
Walsingham Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 Any Resident Evil fan worth his weight in salt <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Wait. Are we talking Maldon sea salt, or that cheap mined stuff you buy in massive packs in Asda? Because if it's the latter I'd guess their worth could be as low as a tenner. "It wasn't lies. Blarghagh Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 (edited) Why are people here referring to the resident evil movies are horror? They are not. There is nothing scary about them. Zombies does not make horror. They're cliche action movies. Now, them games, that's a different matter. They scared the dingo out of me. (EDIT: What, we're not allowed to say that either? I didn't even know that counted as profanity...) Edited April 28, 2006 by TrueNeutral
Hurlshort Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 I agree that Resident Evil is way more Action than Horror. Except the dogs...that was a bit gross. The sequel was a complete action film too, there was really no attempt at horror (except the school bit.) Silent Hill sounds a bit more like an artsy horror film. It's funny, but it sounds like gamers who have played both these titles hate the movies, but people with a cursory knowledge of the game are way more accepting.
