Liked a few tracks. Name me some of their less disappointing albums.

Also,

Blood_brothers_-_burn_piano_island_burn.jpg

Is Awesome.

I suggest "The Lonesome Crowded West" and "The Moon & Antarctica"

Also, Burn Piano Island Burn is really insane. There are two things about that album. 1: It's loud as dingo. 2: There are so many pretty and catchy melodies hidden underneath all the noise and screaming.

Once again, you guys go nuts while I'm away.

Ummm....

"Black Cadillacs" and "Bukowski" were my favorites off that Modest Mouse record. Sometimes I think Modest Mouse is ripping off Tom Waits. And Pitchfork sucks harder than the 1,000 Shop Vacs sucking in unison. Bunch of no-talent hacks and rampant elitism.

I must be slacking, because I haven't heard anything by this "Gnarls Barkley" collective, although I must admit the name is fantastic. I do know that the Twilight Singers have been covering "Crazy," which I believe is the hit, at their live shows.

Also, is that AC album similar musically to their other work, because it seems the lyrics have taken quite the departure.

And speak of the devil,

Tom Waits - Singapore

I have actually heard this comparison before but specifically about "Good News For People Who Love Bad News" (they said something like "now Brock's suddenly trying to be the new Tom Waits, a much harder act to swallow").

There were a couple of good bits on that record, couple of mediocre ones and a couple of bad ones. "Dance Hall" specifically, is a track I wished they hadn't put on there.

And speak of the devil,

Tom Waits - Singapore

A friend of mine started listening to Tom Waits today (courtesy of me) and she actually said "he sounds like the devil", so yeah, speak of the devil.

I listen to Modest Mouse a little mostly Sad Sappy Sucker, but its a little too spastic for my taste.

I love that song. It's the perfect homage to Bukowski. Arguably the greatest bastard to ever have lived. One of the few people to whom I'd have easily offered my anus to vandalise at will. "Don't Try"

how to be a great writer

you've got to **** a great many women

beautiful women

and write a few decent love poems.

and don't worry about age

and / or freshly-arrived talents.

just drink more beer

more and more beer

and attend the racetrack at least once a

week

and win

if possible.

learning to win is hard--

any slob can be a good loser.

and don't forget your Brahms

and your Bach and your

beer.

don't overexcercise.

sleep until noon.

avoid credit cards

or paying for anything on

time.

remember that there isn't a piece of ass

in this world worth more than $50

(in 1977).

and if you have the ability to love

love yourself first

but always be aware of the possibility of

total defeat

whether the reason for that defeat

seems right or wrong--

an early taste of death is not necessarily

a bad thing.

stay out of churches and bars and museums,

and like the spider be

patient--

time is everybody's cross,

plus

exile

defeat

treachery

all that dross.

stay with the beer.

beer is continuous blood.

a continuous lover.

get a large typewriter

and as the footsteps go up and down

outside your window

hit that thing

hit it hard

make it a heavyweight fight

make it the bull when he first charges in

and remember the old dogs

who fought so well:

Hemingway, Celine, Dostoevsky, Hamsun.

If you don't think they didn't go crazy

in tiny rooms

just like you're doing now

without women

without food

without hope

then you're not ready.

drink more beer.

there's time.

and if there's not

that's all right

too.

Neutral, I'll track those albums down, eventually.

Most of their stuff is. Especially put in the context of its time.

Your location is giving me strange, yet appealing, yeah, definitely appealing, vibes. Pretty late. Wonder where I left that record.

Found my Out To Lunch CD. Rip Time.

 Eric Dolphy accomplishes the rare feat of making me wish I could play the Bass Clarinet (as well as the less rare feat of making me wish that I practiced my saxophone more).

Possibly the greatest song with a parentheses in the title ever.

Teenage Fanclub - Some People Try to **** With You

This song is sooooooooo good. And I am convinced the solo is played on a recorder. Not a flute, a recorder. Genius.
