Moving on: why did Spacek want to leave Edmonton? Didn't he play brilliantly in the playoffs? Why did Edmonton let him go? I understand why Pronger had to leave, but after losing Pronger, wouldn't it be so much more important for Edmonton to try to retain the other solid d-men in the roster? I don't understand that trade.

Spacek ended up choosing between Edmonton and Buffalo, and chose the latter for reasons you'd better ask him. He seemed to enjoy Edmonton and Lowe wanted him back, but that's what you have to expect with UFAs every now and then.

Wow... Cloutier to LA for a 2007 2nd round pick and a 2009 conditional... I wonder if they got any magic beans too.

The area between the balls and the butt is a hotbed of terrorist activity.

Peca A Leaf?

The Maple Leafs are reportedly talking to Michael Peca, who is willing to take a pay cut on his $4 million salary to go to Toronto. - Toronto Star

I took this job because I thought you were just a legend. Just a story. A story to scare little kids. But you're the real deal. The demon who dares to challenge God.

So what the hell do you want? Don't seem to me like you're out to make this stinkin' world a better place. Why you gotta kill all my men? Why you gotta kill me?

Nothing personal. It's just revenge.

Everyone's going to Toronto... I have a hard time believing Peca will end up in Toronto when he probably has better options. I thought he wanted to win a Cup, so I'd even think Edmonton has a bigger chance of signing him than the Leafs.

Hard to say. He played all those years in Buffalo and NY. Maybe the easier traveling schedule is a plus in his eyes. And any fan of Edmonton knows by now, that all you have to do is make the playoffs, then anything can happen.

It's hardly a secret that Peca looks to end up out east, I just don't understand how it would become Toronto, but seeing as how Toronto get linked to every player on the market it's hardly a big surprise. Just a stupid rumour.

And if Peca does sign with the Buds, it'll be at a reduced rate. I believe they are getting pretty close to the maximum cap space, aren't they?

It's good that the market has slowed down a little after the blow out of the past week. I mean, the money that's been flying around for these defencemen is just plain retarded.

Hell, I'll even go out on a limb and say two of the leagues biggest pests/enforcers in Ruutu and Laraque both hit the jackpot on their last contracts. 1.2 million per season for Laraque? That's just like burning cash. Do they expect him to be the 20-20 man he always thought he could be in Edmonton? Nobody mentions the year Laraque put up points was when he was playing with ultra smart veteran center Jim Dowd and skates-like-the-wind Boyd Devereux.

1.2 million isn't too bad for a veteran 4th liner. It's probably the ceiling, but Laraque has played in enough games to ask for those numbers. I don't think Ruutu deserves that yet, isn't this like his 3rd season? Maybe I should look him up.

I'd say 1.2 for a guy who plays less than eight minutes a night is wayyyy too much.

And Ruutu has been in the NHL for more than six years. HIs highest point total was last year with 17 points in 81 games.

Current payroll is right around 38 Million, but that doesn't include the Domi and Belfour buyouts, so yeah they're getting close. They still have to sign Colaiacovo, Stajan and Wellwood (all RFAs). Looks to me like they have might have room for another forward. Why the hell they re-signed Antropov is beyond me.

Yes! Shanahan is a Ranger!

That's a great signing for the Rangers in my eyes. Shany is my all time favorite player. It's amazing that at 37 he was still able to pull a 40-40 season. I imagine Jagr will enjoy feeding him the puck, as he is super deadly in the circles. I can't think of a better power forward to play the game. Maybe Cam Neely, but Shanahan has managed to stay healthy, although he's lost the physical edge over the last few seasons.

I believe he's still got another two solid seasons in him before his production declines.

Edit: I just read a list that had Gordie Howe and Phil Esposito as power forwards, so I'm putting Shany at 3rd on that list. That's not a bad place to be.

And Chicago obviously didn't learn the lesson from signing Khabibulin. In a three team swap between the 'Hawks, Sharks and Sens Havlat ended up signing a 3 year contract for 18 million. Holy overpaid!!

edit:here is the link, they had Havlats salary up but then took it off. Hmmmmm.

Maybe, he only defines the position :(

Anyway, I'm not sure what to think, the 'Hawks definitely got more scoring out of the deal, but Bell is one of those "glue" guys, I dunno.

Bell was kind of a big mean bastard, wasn't he? I'll admit I didn't see as many Hawks games as I would've liked last season, but after Ruutu went down it just didn't seem as fun to watch that team anymore.

Mean is just aggressive when you win, but yea he was part of the 'Hawks plan to build around basturds, its too bad they couldn't get Hextall to goaltend.

I'm sure Bell will make his way to the thorton line in "St. Jotose" and he'll score a bit more, but Ruutu and him on the same line would have been redundant.

Interesting trade...Ottawa is getting an excellent defenseman in Priessing. He's really just come into his own, so I'm disappointed he won't be in San Jose. But San Jose is overloaded with PP QB's, so I guess it's the right move. I hope they use Nabakov and Ekman to pull in a better defensive defenseman.

I'm not really sure if Chicago will improve with this trade. Can Havlat succeed without the offensive weapons of the Sens? I guess we'll see.

You don't think that Chicagp will improve , Hurlshot? They added a pretty decent scorer who has some health issues, but is effective pretty much every time he's on the ice ( and not kicking at somebody).

And Smolinski is a decent pick up as well. He's a versaforward.

I have no doubt they'll improve and compete for the playoffs unless the wheels fall off again and everyone gets hurt.

Havlat and Ruutu upfront could be a super exciting line to watch. And if that kid Tony Salmaleinen ever puts up numbers in the NHL look out. He and Ruutu have played together before apparantely.

And is Bell a center or a winger or both? If SJ plays him at center they could potentially have three pretty sharp faceoff men.

I'm pretty sure Bell will play wing, since the Sharks are overloaded at the center spot. He might end up taking face-offs though. That was a sore spot last season.

I think Chicago will be improved, as there isn't really anywhere to go but up, but I question Havlat being their savior. Chicago was a team that couldn't stay healthy last year, and now they got a scorer who missed almost the entire season. It just seems risky. Personally, I'd love to see the Hawks back in the playoffs, they used to be one of my favorite teams to watch.

Llyr sig rocks. I'm way impatient for the new hockey game to come out. NHL 06 was not bad, but it had serious problems on the PC. I'm getting 07 for my 360 and I expect a much better game. It's a shame that EA seems to be shafting the PC version. 10 years ago, the EA hockey games were only good on the PC. The console versions paled in comparison.

"Boy, I sure hope that title gets released on other consoles, or maybe even the PC!"

The majority (if not all) EA sports titles usually do so i don't think you have anything to worry about.

False. And, even if was true (and, it isn't); you seem to think it's ok for the consoles to get shafted. LOL Talk about a double standard.

P.S. NHL 2007 looks great. NHL 2006 was pretty bad. One of the worst EA NHL games to be made. :)
