Kaftan Barlast Posted October 3, 2005 Posted October 3, 2005 The Mothman PropheciesDog Soldiers (An awful movie IMO but it's the most hilarious in the horror genre up to date) Scream (Not very scary by todays standards, but a great movie) Scary Movie (A parody of Scream plus other movies. The best comedy EVER) Scary Movie 2 Scary Movie 3 The Grudge (I couldn't sleep for weeks) The Ring (Great story plot, much scarier than the original chinese version) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> People like you make Ingemar Bergman cry. kirottu Posted October 3, 2005 Posted October 3, 2005 The Ring (Great story plot, much scarier than the original chinese version) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Orginal japanese version, not chinese. This post is not to be enjoyed, discussed, or referenced on company time.

Baley Posted October 3, 2005 Posted October 3, 2005 So Kaftan, what did you think about http://imdb.com/title/tt0275277/ ,again?
Musopticon? Posted October 3, 2005 Posted October 3, 2005 So Kaftan, what did you think about http://imdb.com/title/tt0275277/ ,again? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm not Kafty, but I liked that to some extent. Not as good as some of the episodes, but entertaining and had a nice pacing. kirottu said: I was raised by polar bears. I had to fight against blood thirsty wolves and rabid penguins to get my food. Kaftan Barlast Posted October 3, 2005 Posted October 3, 2005 (edited) Either Ingemar is a Danish female name, or he intended some sort of pun relating to Ingrid Bergman (no relation) trivia: Ingemar Bergman is the last living of the truly great directors of the 20th century. And he lives in a mansion-like house by the sea about 30km north of me. He hates visitors but its ok, Im not much of a celebrity-chaser anyway. Rosbjerg Posted October 3, 2005 Author Posted October 3, 2005 "Eternal Sunshine of a spotless mind" is definitely worth a watch imo .. as is any Kaufmann movie! Has anyone seen "Citizen Kane"? I always wanted to see that film, but I can't find it anywhere .. any good? Fortune favors the bald.
Gorth Posted October 3, 2005 Posted October 3, 2005 My favourite film is Cube, starring Ezri Dax from DS9 and Rodney McKay from Stargate: Atlantis. It really is a brilliant film, though I'd advise you not read the comment on the IMDB page, as it is a pretty bad spoiler. Cube is aweseome  I've seen Cube, Cube 2 (Hypercube) and Cube Zero Cube 2 is the stuff you wouldn't even offer your toilet, so bad is it. Cube Zero is bad, but nowhere near the suckiness of Cube 2 (it was more an attempt to return the style of the first movie). Personal favourites... hmm. Possibly "Leon" and "The Fifth Element" Honourable mention: "Bladerunner" “He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would surely suffice.” - Albert Einstein
Pidesco Posted October 3, 2005 Posted October 3, 2005 Has anyone seen "Citizen Kane"? I always wanted to see that film, but I can't find it anywhere .. any good? That's probably the most revered movie of all time. And with good reason. "Rosebud." "My hovercraft is full of eels!" - Hungarian tourist I am Dan Quayle of the Romans. I want to tattoo a map of the Netherlands on my nether lands. Heja Sverige!! Everyone should cuffawkle more. The wrench is your friend.
Darth_Schmarth Posted October 3, 2005 Posted October 3, 2005 As an actual film student I have seen "Citizen Kane" twice. It's a very good movie once you know what to look for, but the first time I saw it I had trouble grasping its apparent greatness. Oh, and I sat in an uncomfy chair in a classroom watching a telly just under the ceiling. Might have contributed too. ^Asinus asinorum in saecula saeculorum
Kaftan Barlast Posted October 3, 2005 Posted October 3, 2005 Its a good film but it has been hyped beyond all reason. Its a landmark of American hollywood filmmaking but I wouldnt say its better than any of its contemporary films that have been branded as "great cinema" ...and everyones been a film student " its a classic "I cant find a job so I think Ill study something fun&easy" thing. Jumjalum Posted October 3, 2005 Posted October 3, 2005 (edited) As a conneiseur of fine cinema, Im always apalled by the disgustingly shallow taste in film that some people seem to have *cough* Gladiator?! *cough* Im extremely bad at picking favorites so Ill just pull some random examples of what I have in my collection: Dr. Strangelove - Stanley Kubrick 1964 Fallen Angels - Wong Kar-Wei 1995 Man bites dog - 1992 Riget 2 - Lars von Trier 1997 Songs from the second floor - Roy Andersson 2000 <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Why pick on Gladiator? It's only looked down upon because so many people liked it. As mainstream action films go I found it intelligent and emotional, plus it has a really great score. Edited October 3, 2005 by Jumjalum We now bring you live footage from the World Championship Staring Final.
Kor Qel Droma Posted October 3, 2005 Posted October 3, 2005 "Eternal Sunshine of a spotless mind" is definitely worth a watch imo <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Seconded. I watched that movie twice in a row, which is something I don't do too often. And I did the same for Kevin Smiths' "Jersey Girl" Jaguars4ever is still alive. No word of a lie.

Those scenes where Maximus lost his consciousness look awesome. The white horse, the clouds, the moving ground and the gate to the Underworld are all very well implemented. Don't know why Riddley Scott never tried that again with his other films though. Edited October 4, 2005 by julianw
Commissar Posted October 4, 2005 Posted October 4, 2005 Saw is ok, but the villain was a bit predictable. My mom tells me to watch it saying ''You'll never guess who it is! Nobody guessed who it was so you wont either!'' Halfway through i guessed it, it was a bit of a dead giveaway. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ahahahaha. I tell you what, though, watch that movie at 3AM in a dark, empty apartment while your wife's out of town and it seems a hell of a lot more consequential than it actually is. That pig mask? Man. I slept with my utility knife under my pillow that night.

I think the girl with the huge metal hat on, could have slit the guys throat first, instead of plunging the knife into his belly and ripping out his intestines.

The premise itself isn't all that scary, but some of the atmospherics definitely are. I remember the scene where the photographer got captured or whatever, with that dude in the mask in the apartment. Trust me, watch that part alone, in the dark, with no one in your house, and it'll get to you.
