Walsingham Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 I currently have access to editors for Arcanum, NWN, and Morrowind. I am no computer programmer. I want to know which of these editors is the best, in your opinion, to learn. And if anyone would be interested in a small joint project. possibly a tavern, military outpost, or brothel. Judge Hades Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 Well, I haven't messed with Arcanum's but Neverwinter Nights is the easiest of the two that I have used though not as powerful as Morrowind's. You could easily do a small village, with basic dialog and transitions in less than a hour or two.
Volourn Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 1. HOTU 2. SOU 3. NWN 55. RPGMaker 1000. Arcanum 1 million. Morrowind DWARVES IN PROJECT ETERNITY = VOLOURN HAS PLEDGED $250.
Hurlshort Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 I don't think he got it... Seriously, NWN is by far the best editor. It's easy, there are a ton of people still using it to get help from, there are piles and piles of mods available to build your own game with, and it still looks pretty nice.
Walsingham Posted September 2, 2005 Author Posted September 2, 2005 The environments in NWN seem so flat, though. And repetitive. Or have I simply been biased by the official campaign? Oerwinde Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 The environments in NWN seem so flat, though. And repetitive. Or have I simply been biased by the official campaign? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> There are some pretty impressive hakpacks out there you can use to add variety. I even managed to build a village into the side of a mountain with minimal stepped pyramid effect. The area between the balls and the butt is a hotbed of terrorist activity.
Hurlshort Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 Yeah, the campaign was weak, people have improved the engine a ton, and it really is super easy to set up a basic campaign.
EnderAndrew Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 There are editor tools for Dungeon Siege as well. Not only can you build a complete stand-alone game, but you can replace the entire combat engine. Check out: http://www.u5lazarus.com/
Walsingham Posted September 2, 2005 Author Posted September 2, 2005 Thanks for all the comments. I have to say that one of the most annoying feature s of the Morrowind editor is that when you drop in new terrain it arrives at different heights. Simply laying down a flat surface takes forever. I'm starting to drift towards NWN. Which is a shame, because I prefer the character system in MW. "It wasn't lies. It was just... bull****"." -Elwood Blues tarna's dead; processing... complete. EnderAndrew Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 There is a tool someone developed to create terrain in Morrowind called Litoral that is supposed to be quite good. Terrain in Oblivion is supposed to be improved even more, with natural vegitation that doesn't have to be hand-placed.
Walsingham Posted September 2, 2005 Author Posted September 2, 2005 My favourit editor woudl have to be Heroes of Might and Magic III. Deadly straightforward. "It wasn't lies.
