You're not in the minority.  It just happens that the TSL haters don't seem to want to stop repeating the same things over and over.  :p

 

Personally, it isn't a matter of hating the game but rather the annoyance with all the loopholes through cut content. Personally, if they'd have just cleaned up after they started hacking stuff it wouldn't have mattered one way or another and I'm betting there wouldn't be nearly as many people interested in the cut content.

 

Not to rant but as it stands, your party suddenly disappears during the final sequence with exception to a small bit by the droid Bao-Dur sent in his steed (I never did unlock any conversation that explained why he chose to, but I infer it was the Telos restoration) and a minor confrontational (LS) for Mira.

 

There's also the plethora of dialogue regarding the HK-50s and your loveable assassin droids desire to solve said problematic instancing.

 

Then there's the storyline break during the cutscene with G0T0 and Bao-Dur's droid in that G0T0 controls the situation but LS you end up setting off the MSG after all instead of the whole sequence where HK-47 comes along with the reprogrammed HK-50s and puts and end to G0T0.

 

The fact that the rest of my jedi wannabe posse just up and failed to make an appearance in the finale seems rather odd... again, I just infered they all died or were knocked unconcious on landing, if you want to call it that.

 

No, its not a hate for TSL... just a loathing for poorly finalized products. After all, I shilled out a fair amount of money for what I thought was a highly acclaimed sequel. However, what I got was rough product that had been rushed through finalization to meet a bottom line and a deadline.

 

Again, I'd have been satisfied with the current content the game offers if they'd have just cut out all the loose ends and loopholes. I won't go into the argument on how annoying I found that they actually included the cut content during install even though it isn't actually a part of tha game.

 

I guess, more than anything, its a desire that publishers should be held accountable for the quality of games they make especiallly considering the amount of money they request for said product... as a realist, I understand the fruitlessness of such a desire however

What the masses like in games, why they buy them, how they play them, etcetera... I think that makes top-notch quality, especially towards the end of the game, not as big of an issue as it should be. It's very depressing because it's bad for gamers and it points out how lame most people are (I'm not simmering about it but it IS true!).

 

I'm hoping to get a job as a QA guy soon (and work my way up, the best I can, to Designer), and I guess I'll see this behind-the-scenes, first-hand. Somebody needs to beat the system and share the enlightenment, or we're going to have too few great games to sustain ourselves with.

K2 had no real 'plot twist' that it relied on. I actually didn't see the huge plot twist in K1 coming. :huh: But the 'revelations' we got: the "wound in the force" and "Kreia's betrayal" were only mediocre revelations to me. They never really explained how someone could be a wound in the force. K2 is also the first game to actually contain that concept, if I'm correct. It sounded just like something that would give the Masters a reason to fear you and Kreia a reason to use you. As for Kreia's betrayal, I could see that coming a mile off. :-" What's worse is that you couldn't do a d@mn thing about it, even after you found out she was the third Sith Lord.

What are you talking about? A lot of people didn't see it coming. And I'm talking about both here and on Bioware AND on other forums. Pardon me if I don't share in your infinite wisdom, oh stoned yoda. :ermm: But please, if you're going to attempt to bring me down, then do so with a statement you can actually back up. Otherwise, back off.

 

Mostly that was because I didn't pay much attention to dialouge in the game. I was someone who just skimmed it over and skipped through a lot to get back to playing.

You're just lucky you don't post on the Codex. You think what I said was mean or offensive about you not figuring out the plot twist? Try posting on there that you didn't see it coming.

 

Perhaps then I should rephrase. The only people who didn't see it coming are people who seem oblivious to the obvious.

Yeah? Well I don't need to hear someone mocking me just cause I happened to not pay attention to details in a game, regardless of what the flamers on Codex might say. Just because I happened to miss the plot twist doesn't make me "oblivious", regardless of what you might say, and it doesn't give you an excuse to be a smartass about it. that was what ticked me off. If you were only kidding, then my bad, but if you weren't, I'll say it again: back off.

The plot twist was like Aeris dying, Everbody knows about it even if they haven't even heard of the game..

BattleWookie, I see your point but the fact remains that some of us do find KotOR II to be more "fun" or "immersive" or whatever we were looking for.  I know I'm in the minority, but for most of the game I did get into it more than the first KotOR.

 

Agree...if there is one area were K2 shines over K1 then it would have to be just the overall sense of "immersiveness". I personally think that was much better in K2.

 

However, the game has many weaknesses:

 

* lack of party management (yes, I know, the first one did not have this either but it is still a glaring ommission IMO).

 

* swoop racing is MUCH better in K1 than in K2....sometimes less is best.

 

* Pazaak...needs a more casino-like feel....needs tournaments....get rid of the ability to make your own cards (way too munchkinish).

 

* Influence/dialogue was half-baked....get rid of redundant looping dialogue trees within the same session...come up with a way to introduce new dialogue trees if you have already failed to influence someone...feat-based would be fine.

 

* OK, we are essentially using D&D rules...need some dual-classing for non-adepts.

 

* not enough aliens on the ship.

 

* lack of a proper DS path (K1 also had this problem but it was camouflaged better).

 

* K2 had very poor pathfinding and combat AI (as did K1).

 

* Random loot is fine in principle but it was very poorly implemented in K2.

 

* having 5 Force adepts on your ship is too many....need quality over quantity when it comes to this kind of relationship.

 

* by now, we should have some selection in who trains us in the Force...don't "stick" us with a mandatory mentor.

Make your own cards ?

 

I think Pazaak is supposed to be like a in-Cantina game. How would you hold a tournament? (like what would happen in the Pazaak Den).

While I haven't done it myself, yes, I believe it is possible to go over to the workbench and make your own +*/-* cards, for instance. If you put nothing but those type of cards in your side deck, you will win alot. I think a better approach would be for you and the other player to randomly draw your side cards from the main deck at the beginning of the game.

well, I would like to see a seperate "multiplayer" version of the game that resembles a Blackjack table (or Texas Hold 'Em table) in look and feel with voice-over remarks from the other players.

I really enjoyed Swoop Racing in K1 and I loved the 3-tier system of winnings. In K2, I avoid it because it is just not as enjoyable. Also, what about SWOOP BIKE UPGRADES??? We hear NPCs talking about them (at least in K1) but they are not available. We need upgrades and the occasional ability to take the bikes out on actual missions.

If you're serious, Aeris is a character from Final Fantasy VII. She dies in the middle of the game and, on a subtler note, takes all her equipped stuff with her <_<

And Ghost of Anakin, I actually didn't see the K1 plot twist coming, and I paid a lot of attention to the game. It might be the way I played or something, but I didn't pinpoint the twist until right before it was revealed, and even then I only had a creeping suspicion. I don't remember the game well enough to say anything more than that, but I don't take myself to be an idiot, so it's perfectly understandable for someone to be surprised by the twist. I do think it's pretty lame that someone would skim the dialogue, though... there are better games out there if you just want to be a beserker.

 

I liked the twist, but I don't think they're necessary all the time and I certainly wouldn't put K1 above another game just for that. The guy do did The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable always had a plot twist, and it worked sometimes, but other times it was just stupid. It can be good if it fits, but I don't think it's necessary... many great stories have no surprises, and perhaps the greater experience would be a game where you know you're being misled but you continue on that path regardless... personally, I think that would be the ultimate for a Star Wars Jedi game. But, it would require leaps and bounds in design before I think it would work.

1. M. Night Shymalan? He's the one. His movies all had great twists except for "The Village". That was probably his weakest film yet.

 

2. K2 did that to an extent. For instance, I knew Kreia was a Sith Lord and didn't trust her anyway, yet couldn't do a thing about it. Even when you learn in the Korriban cave from the visions (that she's manipulating you), you can't do anything. I just had to put up with her and just wait for her to betray me.
