metadigital Posted May 14, 2005 Posted May 14, 2005 Oh, meta, you make assumptions. It's just that being a male I always see the main character in games like these (KOTOR, Baldur's Gate, NWN) as male. Plus I've always found female heriones and villains to be somewhat... lame. Especially the latter. Sith Lords are male, period, according to my imagination. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, much as I'd like to prevent you from having your world shattered, the game exists in the real world and as such other people play it and have female characters (like me -- the same as in BG and NwN). Hey, you have your all-male cast: I prefer an all-female cast: viva la difference. Just don't start propping up your views with specious arguments like "women can't do what men do", because it just isn't true. OBSCVRVM PER OBSCVRIVS ET IGNOTVM PER IGNOTIVS OPVS ARTIFICEM PROBAT
Imperialist Posted May 14, 2005 Posted May 14, 2005 I didn't say anything of that sort. I simply said I, in my imagination, couldn't see that happening. On another note, isn't it a bit... strange for a man to roleplay a woman?

On another note, isn't it a bit... strange for a man to roleplay a woman? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Why? Would playing a different gender somehow make me less secure in mine? (And Thank you for insinuating otherwise; I'll leave aside your obvious bigotry in assuming I'm male.) I tend to have characters based on people I know and admire, not just me. I think it is a lot stranger to assume that everyone in the universe is male, and that is better. I much prefer female company over males: they tend to have a wider and wiser selection of conversation topics. Or that you have such a limited imagination that something that is common in the real world is beyond your limits. Very strange. OBSCVRVM PER OBSCVRIVS ET IGNOTVM PER IGNOTIVS OPVS ARTIFICEM PROBAT

But looking at the 0,001% women I think they are still quite under-represented. For a change there should be a feminist who demonstrates their potential for a Stalina or Hitla somtime... Guest Dowie100 Posted May 14, 2005 Posted May 14, 2005 read the article you posted lol, it says we wont see anymore films They are making a tv series though set between ep3 and ep4
Darth Flatus Posted May 14, 2005 Posted May 14, 2005 well i was pointing out a reason to play as female and by that time the topic had been already diverted to call out bigotry and discuss gender comparison. In addition to the SW tv series i think there will be some more animated star wars possibly in CGI possibly connected with the clone wars cartoon
Hildegard Posted May 14, 2005 Posted May 14, 2005 They are making a tv series though set between ep3 and ep4 <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If that is true......I'm sure they'll ruin completly what is left of the name - Star Wars....and it proves that Lucas is just after money and he really doesn't care much about it's quality and in the end, no matter how much it sucks, he is going to earn big time because of people like us, who "swallow" everything with the name - Star Wars...

GL is minted to the point wher he can make anything he likes and says he will start making random experimental films more in the vein of thx 1138. If you are so opposed to the idea well i guess you can always vote with your eyes and avert them from the majesty of SW.
Hildegard Posted May 14, 2005 Posted May 14, 2005 It is true but why would it ruin anything? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> ....and then please enlighten us with a few arguments and share your reasons for optimism...
Darth Flatus Posted May 14, 2005 Posted May 14, 2005 I cant predict the quality anymore than you can - i never said that i thought it would be good i merely questioned what made you so sure the name would be ruined.
Hildegard Posted May 14, 2005 Posted May 14, 2005 what made you so sure the name would be ruined. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The name Star Wars and George Lucas are 2 symbiotic things given his "all rights reserved" over everything taged with a name star wars.....and with his two previous movies, ep1 and ep2, which really shaked his credibility as a quality movie director, because by many ep1 and ep2 were like watching softporn B-production movies, apart from the movie budget.....they were so unimaginative, lacking in style and they were so seriuos (and GL tryed to compesate that with """funny""" characters, like C3PO and J.J. Binks and we all now how that ended up)......the best comment on ep1 and ep2 was made by the actor who played as Luke Skywalker (can't remember his name): watching ep1 and ep2 was like reading the Bible.... Maybe ep3 will be better, I certainly hope it will be, but SW series sounds to me like a one-way ticket to a comlete fiasco.....and making movies somewhere between ep3 and ep4 sounds ridiculous, it's like trying to milk a cow which obviously doesn't have anything to offer in terms of a quality movie......I can see it now - headlines: ep 3.487902 is coming out june 2009 just after ep 3.38495096.
Kalfear Posted May 14, 2005 Posted May 14, 2005 Yas know, I dont get why people think Women cant do something in this day and age. It should be clear by now they can. But that statement doesnt change the fact that both K1 and K2 (original scripts) were written as male main characters. Dont have to be sexist about topic, and dont have to be rah rah rah women about topic. Just follow the storylines and the original concept is clear. Thats all there really is to it. People really do read far to much into these topics now adays. Just freaking play the game, it becomes obvious which is the original path and which is added in after to satify everyone. K1 and K2 were obvious in the writting on what the PCs sex was originally written as. Only game out there so far that wasnt obvious and open to massive debate was Jade Empire. Darth Flatus Posted May 14, 2005 Posted May 14, 2005 yes i will agree with you that ep1 and 2 had flaws which were largely due to GL's inability to write decent dialogue or direct. I'm not sure he was ever known as a quality director (before the prequels A New Hope was his only commercial success a director) I am not sure how you are drawing the concluison that the TV series will be bad - GL will not be directly involved except for a few episodes maybe. Different creators will make each episode. The clone wars cartoon is a good example of a non GL tv series. There is no talk of another big screen star wars movie GL has said many times that EP 3 is the end, the story has been told. The tv series will serve as an adjunct to the main story. Being set between ep 3 and 4 means it has a large timeframe to play with and it will have mostly new chracters in it.
Azure79 Posted May 14, 2005 Posted May 14, 2005 i played female because she had a nice (_I_) and i enjoyed looking at it. :D <{POST_SNAPBACK}> My sentiments exactly.
WITHTEETH Posted May 14, 2005 Posted May 14, 2005 Tolkien did not want The Lord Of the Rings series to be made into movies and against his wish they did. why come Star Wars not be made into movies down the road? Nur Ab Sal Posted May 14, 2005 Posted May 14, 2005 You people are exaggerating. Surely a big bunch of EU is lame but there are also decent things like Shatterpoint or Republic comics. And Prequels are very good movies and same flaws were in old trilogy also. So lighten up. HERMOCRATES: Nur Ab Sal was one such king. Ice-Cold Posted May 14, 2005 Posted May 14, 2005 In my opinion, I'd like to see Episode 7 8 and 9, even if George Lucas isnt making it, same as Hideo Kojima isnt making the next Metal Gear Solid, but who cares as long as it's better than Episode 1? Have you thought, that Episodes 7 8 and 9 could be something completly different to the books? Maybe there set 5 months or 5 years after Return of the Jedi, they make Luke look young, like there doing with Harrison Ford for Indiana Jones 4, and just make sure theres enough Wars, and Jedi lightsaber duels like from Episode 2 - 3. We need to see Luke as a Jedi Master, searching the galaxy for the remaning Jedi masters like in that book, cant remember which, I dont really care. And, we need to see the spirits of Episode 3's Anakin, and maybe Obi-Wan. I dunno, I just want Star Wars to continue, and I pretty much hated the Books following RotJ.. but if they make something watchable, then I'm all for it. Nur Ab Sal Posted May 14, 2005 Posted May 14, 2005 George Lucas is great in developing alien worlds. It would be hilarious to see his vision of ancient galaxy. BTW Metadigital devouring other people' post is rude! HERMOCRATES: Nur Ab Sal was one such king. Darth Flatus Posted May 14, 2005 Posted May 14, 2005 who even said there was a 7,8 and 9? In any event, if gl says he aint makin em they aint gonna be made. Well at least not in his lifetime (he probably has a will saying whoever inherits the rights isnt allowed to make a film lest they forfeit the inheritance ) Luke and co. are too old fat and grey to be in films.
