Torrentus Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 So the old topic got closed, but we're up for round two of discussing, debating and outright arguing, as well as the odd moan or five. Right? I'm just trying to keep such a lively discussion going; after all, the last was my homepage Sadly, in the last topic, someone poisoned the Gizka, so (seeing as it''s mating season), you guys get a free Kath hound! Anyway, the more serious stuff. Thanks to Darth333 for linking to these tools: Kotor tool or tk102's dlgeditor. You'll find the links & other info in the following thread: http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=143421 You'll get the Entries and replies in the correct order but you'll get much more info... This is an example of what you'll get: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v608/D333/cutend.jpg To hear sound files get Miles: here To view movie files get Radtools: here To view content so far, go to tubertarian: here (credit to tu2thepoo) The original topic can still be found here Here is the recieved email from Obsidian. I understand your point about putting another version together thatanswers the questions that some people have voiced on the forums and articles about the game. I wish I could say that we plan to do that and that we will be able to go back and fill in the story where people felt it fell flat. Unforunately, we are still a new business and we just don't have the money to do it. Plus, I don't think that it's currently a priority with LucasArts. Like with most games, they are onto their next priority and our producer at LucasArts is working 60 hours a week on another game already. What I can tell you is that we learned a lot about making games as a smaller developer with KotOR2 and are going to use that knowledge on our future games. We already included our own QA team in with the budget of NWN2 and if we get to do KotOR3 then we will do the same there. For what its worth I do apoligize for the disappointment that you have over the game, Feargus Urquhart CEO Obsidian Entertainment, Inc. Here are the contact addresses: bizdev@obsidianent.com (official Obsidian Contact address - good, fast response) pr@lucasarts.com (official LucasArts Public Relations address) mbihr@lucasarts.com (Mary Bihr -- she's the Vice President, Global Publishing, and cares greatly about customer opinion) rscott@lucasarts.com (Ronda Scott -- Community Relations Specialist, it's her job to collect & report customer feedback) Thanks to markussun for finding the latter three addresses. Just don't be rude to them or bother them too much. Thanks to Aurora for the original thread. Keep discussing, playing and working hard. May the force be with you.
kitty518233 Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 hey sorry to sound like a grouch but I really think we should lay off a little, yeh I agree the storyline could have been a better but overall im not complaining i thought it was fun and interesting, but face it how ever much we all complain we're not goin to recieve anything more than patches for bugs, I highly doubt they're gonna restore the ending as Feargus said they can't they're a new company, they have learnt from this and there next game will be better, you leanr to ride a bike your not amazing at it right away but you do get there. *hides*
Torrentus Posted March 2, 2005 Author Posted March 2, 2005 I couldn't agree more. However, my intention is not to bother the companies. I want to continue the previous discussion. It was innovative and involving. And it was informative, besides: there are people here who still need to see this. I was just transferring what I could so the discussion could begin, and besides, we all probably want to know how the mod is going.
manitsbuggy Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 So, unfortunately, we are considering closing the forums either temporarily until we can afford to hire a community manger or possibly permanently. Thats a weak ass way of saying it but ya they are going to close the forums. Could we be a litte less vague? I will try. We are going to close the forums because it is bad publicity for us, Bioware, and LA. We have no coments. Bye Bye P.S. We thought we could release a follow up game to a Game of the Year about Star Wars without a ending and nobody would notice. Star Wars, Game of the Year who would of thought the fan base would of noticed? P.S. You all just dont understand the business. Sniff. -------------------------------- I say get your RANT in before they run away with their tail between their legs then we head over to LA.
Astatine Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 Sticky, please? It's a worthwhile resource... (Maybe it'll avoid a few new repeat threads complaining about the same faults, heh) I hadn't seen the original Feargus email, only copied snippets (never had time to leaf through the entire old thread). I want to express thanks for the response
Torrentus Posted March 2, 2005 Author Posted March 2, 2005 Yes, I did send him a response expressing gratitude. Urm, I have that here somewhere. I felt a bit bad in a way, since he seemed to be having a hard time already, and he's got a busy homelif (congratulation are in order, I believe), besides, it wasn't Obsidian's fault when it comes down to it. In fact, with the short time, they did a great job on it, and had they had 3 years, they would have put Bioware themselves to shame. I am amazed at your superb customer services and professionalmannerism. For such a small company Obsidian is doing, and deserves to do, really well. I thank you for your apologies, although not necessary, the game in itself was VERY well made and a great joy to play. It was just a shame that the deadline cut the ending short. As you may be aware, many fans believe feel sympathy for the designers too, whose work had to be cut. I can only tell you how much us fans have enjoyed hearing, and playing, some of the cut material. I, and many others, have high hopes for KOTOR 3 and I wish Obsidian all the best if they should produce it. I feel many fans have been put at rest by your reply and the confidence that, should Obsidian obtain the rights to KOTOR 3 (fingers crossed), it promises to be a great game. All the best for the future and many thanks.
Torrentus Posted March 2, 2005 Author Posted March 2, 2005 The bloded sticky topic at the top of the forum FOUND HERE Maybe we should give the guy a break, he's only trying to do his job. And why hire? I'm sure many members here would give an arm and a leg to run the forum. Just pick a good, headstong, loyal (to OE and LA) member. Someone who looks a bit like this: and when they see a dev do this:
AngryTarsier Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 the entire forums?? wow... that is weird, I thought many developers and publishers support the creation of communities.. well if they don't have the man power then its very likely that little or no response will be available for that said community... I do hope that they decide to do it only temporarily.. as these communities are also sources for information. I got my bug fixes and glitch warning, as well as fanart from this forum... oh well... anyone found a nice cozy place in LA where we could camp.. lurk and rant away??
manitsbuggy Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 Its in Announcements right above Forum topics Feargus talks about having to close the forums. Hell I must of missed it yesterday but I seen it today. I demand that Feargus sacrifice his second newborn baby to the God's of Gaming. If they close the forums its like total admission and undeniable acceptance of the inevitable rush of the fan base. It is poetic. It is the ending they could not muster for KOTOR II.
AngryTarsier Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 "I demand that Feargus sacrifise his second newborn baby to the God's of Gaming. " right, don't hold your breath.. <_<
SteveThaiBinh Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 Why was the long 'cut-ending' thread closed? Sorry if this is wrong, but I thought that when the moderator closed a thread, they usually posted something to bring it to a conclusion or at least explain why it's being closed. Has someone posted an explanation somewhere else that I've missed? It's not that important, I guess, just seems a bit arbitrary to close it like this. "An electric puddle is not what I need right now." (Nina Kalenkov)
AngryTarsier Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 100k view perhaps?? ahh the answer.. those amn gizkas are over populating the planet.. 100k viewers = 100k gizkas.. they meet and breed.. and now they are all over the planet causing starvation and everything... :D back to topic.. another cut scene.. this time in Dantooine, in the jedi enclaves.. here is the link: http://forums.obsidianent.com/index.php?showtopic=31154 edit: this mentions vrook as a thief..
Meshugger Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 Why closing the original thread without saying word about? (Feargus' answer seems a bit strange too) It will only cause more negative vibe than there is already. "Some men see things as they are and say why?""I dream things that never were and say why not?"- George Bernard Shaw"Hope in reality is the worst of all evils because it prolongs the torments of man."- Friedrich Nietzsche "The amount of energy necessary to refute bull**** is an order of magnitude bigger than to produce it." - Some guy
Meshugger Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 ...and where's the petition thread? I can't seem to find it.
Eji Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 Why closing the original thread without saying word about? (Feargus' answer seems a bit strange too) It will only cause more negative vibe than there is already. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah, usually closed topics have some sort of reason by the moderator who closed it, stating why that action was taken. Without at least some kind of message, I'm afraid this will bring about some pretty negative feelings among people here, whether those feelings are well-founded or not.
nightmaresofsorrow Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 ...and where's the petition thread? I can't seem to find it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I can't find it either. It better not have been deleted...
Eji Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 ...and where's the petition thread? I can't seem to find it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I can't find it either. It better not have been deleted... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Looks like it has indeed been deleted. I did a Search through this forum and found someone mentioning the petition url: http://forums.obsidianent.com/index.php?showtopic=30042 but it no longer goes to a thread anymore.
Meshugger Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 Deleted? That's rich. Someone needs to read a book about customer interaction.
AngryTarsier Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 gone, kaput, nadda... whatever term you use... think they delete it and then closed the cut scene thread plus announced that the forum will be close and hope we don't notice that the petition thread is gone??
phoq Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 I know I'm kinda popping out of the blue here, but I was wondering what would be the interest level of drawings picturing important scenes that got cut? (such as Atton's death...) err, just let me know I think it's very sad that if got cut off, and I don't think focusing on who's to blame for it is gonna help. At least we know of all the potential the game had. To me, that actually made the game better in my views, because now I know it was great. They had something intricate and complex, but due to whatever reason, it got cut. I think that happens often in long-term productions such as movies and games. I'm studying as an animator and I can see quite a few reasons to explain why a project has to be cut. *sigh* but still. ah well...
AngryTarsier Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 http://forums.obsidianent.com/index.php?sh...pic=31077&st=30 that thread feature superb drawings of one of our most esteemed colleagues here... I think it would be great.. if the chances of getting this content back in-game is slim then seeing it from a comic/manga style fanart is the next best thing... if you plan to draw it.. you guys could work together or work apart... for a more diverse reading..

I guess it won't do any good now that we have the response from obsidian but still... And yes people do notice <_<
SteveThaiBinh Posted March 3, 2005 Posted March 3, 2005 Closing/deleting threads like this is just such an odd thing to do: nothing is gained by it (since the forums are closing anyway), and people who contributed to them or enjoyed reading them will be annoyed. So why do it? Would the moderator (or whoever) who did this please respond? I don't think we have the right to expect Obsidian to appear here every day answering questions, but the moderator should account for this. "An electric puddle is not what I need right now."
