Mr. Brightside
As for the luxury ones like the Benz, BMW, and the VW (I personally would love to have a Touareg) I consider those more of a truck car cross and would be surprised if they ever seen any true off road duty. The ML Mercedes SUVs (junk: http://www.mbusa.com/brand/models/ML500.jsp ) are not to be confused with the G Mercedes SUVs (boss: http://www.mbusa.com/brand/models/G55.jsp ). The G-Class SUVs are based off of the old NATO-spec Gelandwagens. Was actually wondering if you ever owned the 2wd counterpart to any of those cars to see what the difference was. No, I've never owned a FWD car. Gas mileage is probably worse on Torsen/quattro cars than on Haldex AWD cars because Haldex systems only drive the rear wheels when slip is detected on the front. Also I see a lot of HP guys how would you feel if I told you you could get a 400 to 500 horse turbo charged motor that would run at least 500,000 miles? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'd assume it was a diesel. Anyway, I'd be more concerned about the turbos than the engine itself. What about this new Mercedes 7-tronic? or some kind of name, I am not sure anymore how it is called <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It's in the new E500 and S500, and it's the best automatic transmission I've driven. It is smooth and relatively smart, but it still bogs on occasion. However, Mercedes gets around that problem in the same way they do with their automatic AMGs: gobs of low-end torque from a high displacment and/or FI engine. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You have driven every car in the world, or? Or why do you know everything? And I think it is also available for S600 and CLS and for CL... ( I mean the transmission) But I thought that you can buy it for every Mercedes! J.E. Sawyer
The price alone makes that a luxury SUV no matter what the specs are just Like the Hummer. Well, yes and no. The Hummer H2 is a pretty sad off-road vehicle. The H1s are great. But I'd never say the G-Wagens are "just like" the H2. In fact, a lot of people say that they outperform Hummer H1s off-road. The interior of the G500 has wood and leather, but it's designed for off-road use. The Gs haven't always been this expensive -- only recently and in the U.S. twitter tyme
Product of the Cosmos
to me, a car is something to use to travel places. and yet your first argument in favour of automatics is that they're better for when you're stuck in traffic... i see closure of the GM foods thread hasn't altered your taste for bizarro logic. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Arguement? I personally just like them better. And yes they are better in traffic IMO. Maybe if you considered what I was replying to in the quote, you would understand. Yet, you wish to create conflict and dis me. That is the source of your cognizance failure. I eat, smoke, talk on the phone, etc when I am driving. Automatic is what I drive. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Potc, for someone who

I meant that at an inflated price like that it is in the same category price wise only. I really am not impressed with the H2s. You can buy older gas or diesel G-Wagens (like many of the ones pictured there) with the same off-road capabilities for $6k-$15k. Like I said, it's only recently that the G-Class got a ton of luxury features stacked on top of its utilitarian chassis. twitter tyme

mkreku
If you really want a work vehicle (and don't care for aesthetics) I'd recommend the Unimog (also manufactured by Mercedes Benz). My father owns one and it's reliable, incredibly strong and easy to repair. Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!

omnimutant
I have an Older Jeep Cherokee 4.0 4wd. Yes it eats gas, yes its a bohemoth and yes it is an automatic, but it also has alot of spunk when you lay into the pedal. I much prefer the automatic Transmition for my Jeep. With small trucks, and sports cars of course the manual shift is the way to go, like if I had a Viper or somthing. I would be very painstaking to have manual shift in my Jeep with the insiane traffic we have around here. It would drive me nuts. I think it's just a situational thing. For offroading I prefer the automatic too. Too many other things to worry about when romping the desert, like ditches, rocks, thick shrubbs, the occasional wandering cow! The funney thing is I have 4wd, but I've never needed to use it(4wd option) even when off roading. Seems like a waste, but if I did'nt have it I'm sure i'd run into a situation where it would be needed to get unstuck or whatever. Anyway I have No Idea where this post is going hehe, Congrats on the sporty looking ride J.E.

taks
isn't the hummer (commercial) just a yukon with a different body? i've seen accidents between a hummer and a dodge ram, btw, and, well, let's just say i'd have rather been in the ram taks comrade taks... just because. Mr. Brightside
There is a new offroad unimog! Have you seen him? I think he is white and he looks a little bit like the older models. With that car you have so much possibilities in bad terrain. This unimog is able to do everything! :D

Leferd
I like cars. I did not really like my Audi that much. It was okay, but not that much fun to drive. It had a bit more luxury than I really needed, and my monthly payments were high enough that I had to make a frowny face. This evening, I traded in my Audi and bought this black beauty: a 2004 Volkswagen R32. I got the only option available: leather seats. I love it. It has a 250 horsepower 3.2L VR6 engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission. It uses a Haldex (front-biased) all-wheel drive system, but absolutely no torque steer is felt even under heavy driving. The brakes are from a Passat W8, with massive 4-piston calipers. Of course, it has a sport suspension and, as the pictures show, the front seats are manual Knig racing seats with massive side bolsters. I am quite pleased. I like cars. I did not really like my Element that much. It was okay, but not that much fun to drive. It had a bit more utility than I really needed, and my friends kept asking me to help them haul stuff enough that I had to make a frowny face. 3 years ago, I traded in my Element and bought this blue beauty: a MkVI Volkswagen R. I got the only options available: Navigation, Keyless Entry, upgraded Soundsystem, and Sunroof. I love it. It has a 256 horsepower 2.0 Turbo engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission. It uses a Haldex (front-biased) all-wheel drive system, but absolutely no torque steer is felt even under heavy driving. The brakes are from a MkV R32, with massive 4-piston calipers. Of course, it has a sport suspension and, as the pictures show, LED taillights. I am quite pleased. 2 "Things are funny...are comedic, because they mix the real with the absurd." - Buzz Aldrin."P-O-T-A-T-O-E" - Dan Quayle

Longknife
It's ok friend. I too have long harbored a dream of someday posting in Josh Sawyer's new car thread ever since I was a freshman in high school, so I'm sure the mods will sympathize with your desire to post here. Likewise, I'm sure Sawyer will appreciate your inputs as well. 1 "The Courier was the worst of all of them. The worst by far.
