Hey guys, I don't think it was a 'silly' question. It says 'how dark can TSL be?', and that requires subjectivity on each persons part. Provocation of Tyrell is unnecessary and I'm sick of sifting through posts to actually find one on topic.

I reckon that the ending will probably turn out 'dark' no matter whether you choose LS or DS. Bad things happen to good people ... the death of a key figure of your party at the hands of your enemy, for example, whom you were having a relationship with (not the enemy, of course). I'm thinking along these lines, since some of the greatest losses in life are when your emotional attachments are taken away by something beyond your control.

Doing personal insults over the internet so much fun, no matter how upset you make the other person, you're still safe behind your computerdesk. There's no boundries on how much of a jerk you can be. Unlike in real life...

(Hint to the mods: i was sarcastic, i don't need another warning after the 'Carth Onasi church of love'-thread <_< )

Oh I am a jerk in real life too. :p Make no mistake. It has nothing to do with the internet.

Haha at least your honest.

Fair enough.

In KotOR Taris and Dantooine are both destroyed no matter what path you take. So I guess making the game "darker" would be making more destruction like that, no matter what path you take.

A darker story doesn't necessarily mean more mass destruction. Sometimes it's the more personal tragedies that make the mood more somber or 'dark'.

In saying that, keep in mind that I actually don't know a whole lot of the story of the game. Most of it is in the designers' heads more than in docs, and I don't have a lot of time to read story docs to begin with. Too busy coding.

But I know how Avellone writes, and I do know a few details or ideas that are going to happen.

This is really good to hear. Alot of the Star Wars authors were always looking for the next big Galactic Badness

This thread had such potential....

I made this half-pony half-monkey monster to please you

But I get the feeling that you don't like it

What's with all the screaming?

You like monkeys, you like ponies

Maybe you don't like monsters so much

Maybe I used too many monkeys

Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you?

you just said that to show off your new cool signature animation :)

Okay, that clears up many things.

So really it is a darker story but more smaller and personal. I guess I get it now.

That's pretty much what I assumed we'd get with this crew.

Sometimes it just means that the lights are turned low. B) Oh, wait, I'm just wearing my sunglasses!

Hey, it worked for the Matrix.

Careful examination of the Matrix will show that the budget and effects weren't all that incredible. Often, the set was cast in shadows and your imagination filled in the rest. The two sequels were more brightly lit and featured more finished effect shots, but people didn't care for them as much.

Yeah, darkness!

Finally. :)

I hope Obsidian doesn't make the story dark by including more evil acts. It should be the atomsphere of how the story is told and the way chracters act.

Seriously though, it does clear up many things. Not only things that I didn't know but things that others didn't know as well.

I'm glad I created this thread, cause in the long run it helped clear up things about KOTOR 2 for everyone.

But yeah, you are right....Finally! :)

Ahh... so Chris is writing? Did he write in PS:T as well?

That's reassuring...

Yep. He sure did.

I'm pretty sure that's the idea.

As I understand it, he was the MAIN writer of Torment, though far from the only one.

If they follow the PS:T writing style, I think we're in good hands.

In answer to the original question:

It can be very, very dark.

"When is this out. I can't wait to play it so I can talk at length about how bad it is." - Gorgon.

^No, I'd go darker than that.

I'd say very, very, very dark.

Let me re-emphasize: the game will be dark.

Yes, yes, I know it was inciteful, but you don't have to clap especially for ME. It wasn't my idea, after all.

I didn't find KOTOR1 very dark so I'd be surprised if the sequel was. But that's fine, I don't expect it to be. Just expect a good game.

They said they'd be making the sequel darker than the first one, more like episode 5.
