Not exactly a surprise, the Saudis are notoriously useless and the Saudi backed forces were largely ineffective outside of the borders of old South Yemen. And they've fought a nasty civil war within the civil war against the UAE backed South Yemeni separatists since the cease fire with the Houthis, which means both weaker militia and no Emirati support.

They will likely fight a lot better for South Yemen proper though- so long as they can stabilise things.

9/11 remembrance today. Its not really highlighted much anymore on forums like this but this is 25 years and its still significant for me personally. I remember where I was when the attacks happened

The world has changed a lot since then and largely for the better. The threat of Islamic extremist attacks is much less with the exception of several African countries where this type of extremism not only thrives but is growing

But what still surprises me is the amount of conspiracy theories that still exist which vary but they more or less believe AQ didn't commit 9/11 and the USA did it to themselves

Yes, it's a positive from the perspective of the SCOTUS continuing to uphold the Constitution. I still think the USPS approach isn't a good one as it increases the likelihood of errors without providing a significant improvement in election security. This administration has actually decreased the security for this upcoming election, so their motivation is dubious. Hopefully, following the election, we will have better checks and balances between the three branches.

There is no doubt in my mind that Trump only issued this executive order to hopefully reduce the amount of Dem votes because the new restrictions would disqualify some voters until its implemented properly

But as usual this type of decision wasn't well thought out and worst of all it was rushed to be implemented before the midterms. Its something that possibly could be done later once the Postal Service and states can support it

That is technically true. Practically though, we did have an example of how 'free to leave' countries actually are.

To whit, Greece. There was... rather a lot of pressure applied to make sure they stayed even though it wasn't in their best interests to. Or at least, would not have been in their best interests to if it wasn't made clear to them that there would be a coordinated and sustained effort to further torpedo their economy via retributive measures if they revoked their economic vassaldom.

Of course, Germany isn't Greece, and if they left the whole entity might well fall apart, and Germany won't be leaving any time soon since their issues aren't Euro related and it's still a net benefit to their economy. Even in the event of an AFD federal victory having a currency they dominate being used by other nations is great from a nationalists' perspective since it gives you massive leverage. They'll just try and maximise the benefits/ minismise the responsibilities even more.
