The proper question is probably why not take the 5th in that situation if it's available, rather than why take it. Doesn't really have any downsides.

The only people who are going to be upset about it were rabid covid truthers beforehand who will remain remain covid truthers after, whatever is said. You're neither going to change their minds, nor do convince them of anything else. At this point, why even bother.

There is downside, he is being referred to the DOJ for contempt of Congress and possible prosecution

But we also know the current list of failed prosecutions from the Trump DOJ because of the sensationalism of the reasons to prosecute so I'm not sure Fauci is that concerned?

"What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead" - Nelson Mandela

That's not a downside, when the alternative is getting prosecuted for something else. In the end, that's the fundamental problem with weaponising hearings if you actually want to get to the truth of what was done right and what was done wrong: you aren't going to get that if you're actually actually trying to just get someone in trouble to score political points.

Yeah, it's not really legal contempt of Congress unless 60 senators vote in favor, which isn't going to happen. But yes the Department of Clown Justice can still pull out the trick flowers and hose him down.

@Malcador is there a real chance Alberta gains independence or just wishful thinking? Can't gauge if jurnos/vultures are just trying to make news from nothing.

A non zero chance, but I doubt it really. Devil is in the details with this, some of these people think they get to leave with a huge chunk of our public pension fund, or can just walk off with native lands.

Most of these people are just American suck ups that are too cowardly to emigrate

Well, US will have lower taxes and freedom or something. They want to separate due to people perceiving the rest of Canada leeching off of them via equalization payments and lack of representation due to people not understanding Quebec and Ontario having 60% of the population. I guess they are learning from Quebec in the 90s where they threatened to blow the country up in order to get things.

Q. How many Trump staffers does it take to change a light bulb?

A. All of them. As he holds the bulb in the socket, they heap praise so the world will keep spinning around him.
