Well apart from that one defensive hiccup. Maybe one day it will become the norm. The game was too late for me to watch, it was at 2 am but I have watched the highlights when I woke upA resounding win by the US and an excellent start to the WC, hopefully they will continue the momentum and they really can win against both Turkey and Australia. The US is in a good group with no serious opponentsI always like to see the host country at least getting out the first group because of the positive influence and excitement for the hosting countryAnd good to see Canada not losing for the same reason. At least both Bosnia and Canada both get a point @Malcador You should be happy, I would take a draw over a loss anytime and you should be able to beat Qatar? Yesterday at 04:33 AM1 day England didn't deserve the World Cup in 66, have always been overrated just on account of being English, and are generally an unlikeable team. The Dutch are definitely the ones who had the best team a bunch of times, and still failed to achieve what they should have. Their team isn't very good this year, though. "My hovercraft is full of eels!" - Hungarian tourist I am Dan Quayle of the Romans. I want to tattoo a map of the Netherlands on my nether lands. Heja Sverige!! Everyone should cuffawkle more. The wrench is your friend.
Yesterday at 06:56 AM1 day Several interesting games, I only watched the Netherlands vs Japan because of the times they were playedJapan is not some B rate team like Curacoa or South Africa but I still expected Netherlands to win and they should haveThey got complacent after there second goal, you see how aggressive they became in the last 8 minutes after Japan scored. They should have played like Germany and not just started thinking " we won this game lets just defend "But well done to Japan, the fans on both sides at least will be happy with the single pointSweden crushed Tunisia which was an excellent outcome for them Also Germany annihilated Curacao which was to be expected but the real story here is that Curacao was able to qualify and thats the best part of this larger and expanded WCI am embarrassed to admit I had never heard of Curacao I looked them up, its only got a population of 150k and its an autonomous country that is part of NetherlandsThe point being its an incredible achievement just qualifying for the WC and they did this by beating Barbados, Aruba, Saint Lucia, and Haiti in the regional competitionSo just scoring a single goal against a country like Germany is already making history for themAnd its a nice story to hear about even if they don't progress ⚽ "Abashed the devil stood and felt how awful goodness is and saw Virtue in her shape how lovely: and pined his loss” John Milton "We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” - George Bernard Shaw "What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. 18 hours ago18 hr Japan vs. Netherlands was a fun game; Sweden vs. Tunisia not so much. Ecuador seemed to run out of steam at the end vs. Cote d'Ivory, and they paid the price.I don't see much to look forward to with Group G or H today. This World Cup has perhaps 16 teams too many; the contests would be more engaging if they cut down on the number of participants. But I suppose as long as fans keep flocking to the games, they'll keep expanding it.Superficially, the throw-in rules change seemed like a good one, but I suspect that players will now simply not head for the sideline until the team is deployed. Not all of them, of course, but enough to make even someone who holds an english passport (ie me) hope that they lose in a way that generates the maximum amount of hilarity and over the top sky is falling reaction.
12 hours ago12 hr Brazil - Haiti, really ?Not a fan of the seeding system, I suppose everyone gets to pretend that they can win in the group phase, at least for a while but give me Germany - Brazil - or Holland instead. It creates more global excitement and interest and it becomes more inclusive It allows a team like Cucacoa to qualify and they have never played on the global WC stage. And as I mentioned previously they had to still qualify in there region which requires skill and commitment I understand the criticism but I think the positive outweighs the negative? 1 hour ago1 hr @BruceVC there is an expectation associated with English teams. Rule of thumb is England invents a sport and a few years later they suck at it. Tennis, badminton, football, rugby, cricket etc Possibly they are a world leader I’m polo but I wouldn’t bet om it 🤔 “He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt.
