Raven Posted June 11, 2004 Posted June 11, 2004 i just got my issue of gamepro and it sys mira (a member of your party, i believe) has a weapon whcihc is a wrist mounted rocket launcher'. it allows ehr to fire knockout darts to make the enemy knocked out. she can also fire buster or ion cannons. hmm, a party member worth using?
guns1inger Posted June 11, 2004 Posted June 11, 2004 If that's true, I'd be royaly impressed. As much as I loved the first, each party member was interchangeable to me. I mean, they were different, but for the most part I just picked the guy who annoyed me the least (HK) If this is true then obsidian is trying to create some characters with truly unique abilites and usefullness. Sweet
Fardragon Posted June 11, 2004 Posted June 11, 2004 I read this too (in a magazine). The character is meant to be a bounty hunter. How effective the rocket launcher is remains to be seen. Everyone knows Science Fiction is really cool. You know what PoE really needs? Spaceships! There isn't any game that wouldn't be improved by a space combat minigame. Adding one to PoE would send sales skyrocketing, and ensure the game was remembered for all time!!!!!
guns1inger Posted June 11, 2004 Posted June 11, 2004 I think this is a step in the right direction. They NEED to give ALL the NPC's their own unique abilites or weaponry. They hinted at this in KOTOR with Canderous' bio implant. This would give each character something usefull to contribute to the party. In KOTOR, I would think of taking someone like Mission along but stop myself saying, "she'll just get owned, better take HK or Canderous". But if she had something unique to offer, she might not have been warming the bench all the time.
Eclecticist Posted June 11, 2004 Posted June 11, 2004 Wrist-mounted rocket launcher just...sounds weird. It should be cool though, I suppose.
Quasar Posted June 11, 2004 Posted June 11, 2004 I think unique abilities for all characters would really help.. Perhaps T3 can us computers much easer or something?
Retnuh Posted June 11, 2004 Posted June 11, 2004 Didn't the Fett bounty hunters have wrist mounted weapons? I don't remember exactly what type of weapons they were. Rocketlauncher on your wrist though? C'mon....thats a little far-out. Maybe it is some sort of utility weapon....darts and small energy blasts sound better.
Eclecticist Posted June 11, 2004 Posted June 11, 2004 Was this a direct quote from an Obsidian employee or just speculation in the magazine?
Mendoza Posted June 11, 2004 Posted June 11, 2004 I saw the same thing in last month's UK PC Gamer, and that was apparently after being sat down with MCA and some other Obsidian and Lucasarts people, so I'd say it's pretty accurate.
guns1inger Posted June 11, 2004 Posted June 11, 2004 While a wrist-mounted rocket launcher may sound kinda out there, it might be cool. If the rockets are very small, a little larger than darts, it might turn out to be very cool.
prsrulez Posted June 11, 2004 Posted June 11, 2004 There's pics of her... concept pics anyway. It looks sort of like fett's wrist blaster.
Adria Teksuni Posted June 11, 2004 Posted June 11, 2004 The wrist rocket launcher looked neat, and it had some pretty impressive-sounding rockets to go with it, but overall, in the demo, I was not impressed with it in combat. It didn't seem to do anymore damage than any other range weapon. Never assume malice when stupidity is to blame.
Raven Posted June 11, 2004 Author Posted June 11, 2004 Was this a direct quote from an Obsidian employee or just speculation in the magazine? i dont know exactly, but it looks cool and i think mira is going to be a very useful character in the game.
Quiquag Posted June 11, 2004 Posted June 11, 2004 I think the wrist rocket launcher was confirmed somewhere....I read about it a little while ago in some interview.
Craftsman Posted June 11, 2004 Posted June 11, 2004 It is. I hope a character has the ability to see the future. Interesting side quest could be envolved.
Adria Teksuni Posted June 11, 2004 Posted June 11, 2004 Yeah, Mira seemed to have great potential in the demo, witty dialogue but not bitchy. Never assume malice when stupidity is to blame.
Akari Posted June 11, 2004 Posted June 11, 2004 Yeah, she has a wrist-mounted rocket launcher. It may or may not have been useful in the demo. We hadn't undergone the balance pass over all the weapons/items/armor by E3. We have a designer working on that right now. -Akari
Indalecio Posted June 11, 2004 Posted June 11, 2004 Was this a direct quote from an Obsidian employee or just speculation in the magazine? It was in the ~100 MB video. Mira joins your party. In the description it says she has these wrist mounted rocket launchers and will be able to use any rockets and grenades you come across.
Child of Flame Posted June 11, 2004 Posted June 11, 2004 Is it possible we can see a pimpin Energy Flechette weapon like the one used by the Preds in the AvP 2 Expansion pack? That weapon was fcuking awesome!!!
Maria Caliban Posted June 11, 2004 Posted June 11, 2004 Every NPC has some cool thing they can do. Atton Rand can get up after reaching 0 hp during combat. "When is this out. I can't wait to play it so I can talk at length about how bad it is." - Gorgon.
GhostofAnakin Posted June 11, 2004 Posted June 11, 2004 Yeah, she has a wrist-mounted rocket launcher. It may or may not have been useful in the demo. We hadn't undergone the balance pass over all the weapons/items/armor by E3. We have a designer working on that right now. -Akari that developer's name isn't mgnails is it? "Console exclusive is such a harsh word." - Darque"Console exclusive is two words Darque." - Nartwak (in response to Darque's observation)
Raven Posted June 12, 2004 Author Posted June 12, 2004 Yeah, she has a wrist-mounted rocket launcher. It may or may not have been useful in the demo. We hadn't undergone the balance pass over all the weapons/items/armor by E3. We have a designer working on that right now. -Akari that developer's name isn't mgnails is it? mgnails practically made kotor1! why not?
Topaz Quasar Posted June 12, 2004 Posted June 12, 2004 Jango Fett had a dart-launcher & flamethrower built in his gauntlets, and could fire rockets with his jetpack. They seemed to have gone a step further with Mira and put the entire rocket launcher on her wrist....
Judge Hades Posted June 12, 2004 Posted June 12, 2004 The idea of wrist rockets ins't new to gaming. Man, doesn't anyone PnP game anymore?
