What did you get?

My sister went to the US a little while ago and snagged some awesome laptops. Awesome in that the equivalent laptop was 650 in the US and is 2000 over here. Now it was discounted from 1000, but that is still a big difference. She went through customs like a mule. I can't even imagine the prices on black friday. You could probably come out ahead if you bought a plane ticket and loaded yourself with some good deals to sell back here. I'm thinking the best bang for your buck would be to stuff a suitcase full of quality ram and just sell it in Serbia... A. there is no good RAMs here to buy retail and B. they are so expensive.

Lenovo L41 I think. Works well, 64 GB RAM, enough to run AWS Console, barely.

Good to know, time to start smuggling into Serbia. First laptops, then AKs, move over Bout.

Nice. I asked for a nice fully loaded Lenovo laptop with dedicated graphics (cuz why not) that was withing budget and I ended up getting a macbook...

Nothing makes you start appreciating Windows like being forced on to macOS... I swear the UX of Windows is light years ahead of macOS, the caveat being that everything works on a mac and with Windows you kind of need to know how to trouble shoot. On the flip side if something doesn't work on a Mac, then god help you.

The worst thing is that I have started pressing alt+c/v on my Windows machine. That gives you the chills.

Huh, maybe bring out some of the AKs out of Serbia. Better luck with that. I think we are pretty close to some states in the US for guns per head.

Work starts off great with some guy wondering why he has high latency connecting to NY from Dehli. I guess to resolve it I should send him info on immigration to NA.

Went to rehab today, dear mother of god I'm weak. I've got gym twice a week for a month now and several exercises to do at home. Also, got my sisters Aygo running after it's been sitting for 1.5 years, she'd left the handbrake on, and the chumps she first asked to take the car on a trailer to the mechanics didn't know what the **** they were doing and just tried to pull it loose. I got it rolling in about 15 minutes, then I got the seized generator rolling again and it chugged along for atleast 15 minutes without issues. Driving it to the bodywork shop tomorrow to fix the rust.

Also, dear god I want a new GPU. **** nVidia for being cheapskates with VRAM, 10Gb ffs...

Anyone that has 2-3k$ to send my way for a 5090 when they release? XD

That's not a bad idea. I imagine that'd be a way to pay for a new PC, there's never not a demand for guns in my state.

I always want a new PC. I just usually don't have even a fluffy excuse for it. I think it's going to be just like when I wanted to upgrade from the 980ti/i-920 5ish years ago (I think?) ... "now?" "No, don't really need it." and so on for some years....

I'm kind of hoping that Death Stranding 2 will be console-only for a year, so I'd have 2+ years before I'd really think about upgrading for it (if I "need" to). Maybe the 6090 will be almost out then, for only $3699, with triple digit vram! The more you buy, the more you save!

In other what you did today for LC, the dental cleaner said while my few very deep pockets are still deep pockets, overall my gums are looking better than before (pre-the tooth extractions) and my blood pressure was "really good". Although I'm not sure why taking blood pressure was part of a basic tooth scraping/cleaning appointment, but ok, nice to know that at least that's not something to put on the laundry list of concerns.

Still can't decide on the Invisalign tho. I could definitely use it for back teeth "bite" alignment reasons (not cosmetic) but ... $10,000 and 1-2 years of wearing the things constantly. If only I could know if the bite alignment would get worse or stay as it is now. If doesn't get worse, it's ok/tolerable regarding eating/chewing. Can't do implants until I decide.

I wouldn't mind getting something from AMD this time, but considering they said they aren't going to compete with the high end, I have my doubts I'd want what they offer. They'll probably do something stupid again such as match nvidias prices so there will be even less reason to buy their stuff. Had AMD actually released any solid info about the 6000 series before nvidia released the 30-series I'd have gotten one of them instead, if they'd been smarter about pricing, but all there was was rumours and an "early bird" offer of buying an asus 3080 OC edition for 7000sek and it was a bad idea to turn down that offer. It served me well the past 4 years, but now that everything is using DLSS in their 60 fps requirements I feel I need something more potent. I hate DLSS artifacts...

Whenever I do get around to it, I'll be taking a hard look at AMD across the board then, for sure. A lot of it for me is software packages, drivers, as well as performance/cost. I never liked AMD's user software/interface, which I know is a persnickety thing, but it's been a long time. And what Nvidia keeps doing gets worse and worse. I like that they're getting rid of "experience" (which I never install/use) but I dislike that they're getting rid of "control panel" and what is replacing it looks like ... it sucks.

It's funny, I went from using AMD's stuff for decades to using nvidias tools and I find them all to be absolute garbage. I could get my AMD card to display 4:3 resolution images on my widescreens nema problema, but I still can't get nvidias tools to properly size say 1080p onto my ultrawide, it just stretches it out to the entire picture no matter what I do.

^ I've never had an ultra-wide so can't say anything. But 4:3 on 16:9 I can't recall any major issues. But likely depends on what - images, browsers, video, games, etc. I have nvidia's use "aspect ratio" plus any actual display/monitor option preference setting (if you have any of those) is what I use, and videos/games/images all seem to work properly for me. At least, they don't get stretched or squashed/I get the black bars.

I much prefer black bars vs. cropping or stretching etc.

EDIT: To be fair, I can't even really recall what it was I disliked about AMD's software back then, outside of an expected lack of familiarity. I recall struggling to make games behave/look like they "should", for hubby a few times when he had AMD and not being able to.
