I do want to be Max Payne though.

Why has elegance found so little following? Elegance has the disadvantage that hard work is needed to achieve it and a good education to appreciate it. - Edsger Wybe Dijkstra

May be an image of 1 person and text that says '"THERE IS A CULT OF IGNORANCE IN THE UNITED STATES, AND THERE HAS ALWAYS BEEN. THE STRAIN OF ANTI-INTELLECTUALISM HAS BEEN A CONSTANT THREAD WINDING ITS WAY THROUGH OUR POLITICAL AND CULTURAL LIFE, NURTURED BY THE FALSE NOTION THAT DEMOCRACY MEANS HAT 'MY IGNORANCE IS JUST AS GOOD AS YOUR KNOWLEDGE." ISAAC ASIMOV A Cult gnorance", Newsweek, January 1980'

You know what the problem is? Some of the stupidest s--t is coming FROM the intellectuals. Arrogance is a poor chaser. Arrogance coupled with error is unpalatable.

given the recent overturn o' roe v. wade, we were considering which SCOTUS decisions were worst from our pov. is a disturbing number to choose from, however, near the top o' our list is the twin cases o' schenck v. united states and debbs v. united states

am not discussing the law of either case, but we recollected bernie sanders did a documentary o' eugene debbs and even read a number o' debbs speeches, including the one which sent the socialist firebrand to prison. am knowing is more than a few bernie bros on these boards and we thought we would share the linked video.

aside, SCOTUS upheld the debbs conviction 9-0. sentence were ten years but President warren harding would commute debbs sentence in 1921, two years after debbs were imprisoned.

HA! Good Fun!

The more important and intimate the emotion, the fewer words are needed to express it.
"Will you go out with me?" Six words.
"I care for you." Five words.
"You matter to me." Four words.
"I love you." Three words.
"Marry me." Two words.
What's left? What's the most important and intimate word you can ever say to somebody? It's "Goodbye."
- J Michael Straczynski

hmmm.

v600_DDD_1500x1500_rgb_72dpi.jpg

such exhortations are indeed intimate and heavy with emotion.

is also a whole lotta single-word invective. a$$hole is an example, yes?

on the less serious end o' the extreme large spectrum o' utterances deep in emotion and intimacy, sally struthers taught us, aloha means goodbye.

the quoted observation might not be as profound as mr. straczynski imagined.

...

admitted, it says something a smidge off-putting 'bout Gromnir that our first response to the bit o' pith you shared were, "die."

HA! Good Fun!

I'm not sure what the difference is between I care for you and you matter to me. I mean, I agree that very little words are needed the deeper a relationship gets, but I'm just not sure those phrases are the best example of that.

I agree with Gromnir though. The only way 'goodbye' carries more weight than 'I love you' if it is followed by death.

To be fair, JMS was sharing that when he was reminiscing about the passing of some of the B5 cast and his memories of them, especially Andreas Katsulas.

Are they supposed to be different? They are both four words.

Maybe there is a fifth word we can't see?
