It seems in the modern era great powers only last a century or so until the next one comes along. However, one notable difference between now and the past few centuries is that it looks like Western civilization as a projected entity across the globe appears to be in decline and the East appears to be an up and comer this time around so it'll definitely get more interesting as time goes on. everything moves faster today and as time passes it will keep accelerating. in order for the US to declare its independence to the king of england, they had to wait over 2 months for the round trip to get the reply. if they did it today they could just make a phone call and be done with it in a few minutes. also, for the king to mobilize the army and send it to suppress the rebels it took several months, today the army would be landing on the US shore 3 days after the phone call. The words freedom and liberty, are diminishing the true meaning of the abstract concept they try to explain. The true nature of freedom is such, that the human mind is unable to comprehend it, so we make a cage and name it freedom in order to give a tangible meaning to what we dont understand, just as our ancestors made gods like Thor or Zeus to explain thunder. -Teknoman2- What? You thought it was a quote from some well known wise guy from the past? Stupidity leads to willful ignorance - willful ignorance leads to hope - hope leads to sex - and that is how a new generation of fools is born! We are hardcore role players... When we go to bed with a girl, we roll a D20 to see if we hit the target and a D6 to see how much penetration damage we did.
