Ticket-paying Liverpool fans were denied entrance after standing in a queue for two and a half hours. Karma is a b*tch, I suppose. Yeah, the British are on the cross about it. Funny that it was the opposite extreme from their handling of the Euro final, heh. But also just in general this season, a lot of pitch invasions, players actually attacked or just being harassed by fans. Shame no Cantona-esque punishment, although I guess Vieira did put the prole on his ass. Why has elegance found so little following? June 4, 20223 yr 21 year old Iga Świątek won the French Open at Roland Garros for the second time in her career. June 23, 20223 yr That number of fatalities is not that rare for the TT unfortunately, it's justifiably notorious for deaths. Been cancelled for covid the last couple years though I think, so it's a bit more headline grabbing. (eg the couple who bought my parents' house in Christchurch competed there regularly in the 90s, when half the years had 5 or more deaths)
June 23, 20223 yr I'm forever amazed that more people don't die at WRC events, be that drivers, co-drivers, or spectators. June 24, 20223 yr WRC cars do have amazing safety engineering. It's pretty good marketing having a car you can go and buy (well, kind of) hurtling along a gravel road on a Cypriot cliff at 150kph and even if it does crash the drivers walk away unhurt.

August 12, 20232 yr I don't know why they're called the Matildas, but I love their name and they've got my vote. Hopefully the story behind it doesn't suck. Quote Against stupidity we have no defense. Neither protests nor force can touch it. Reasoning is of no use. Facts that contradict personal prejudices can simply be disbelieved - indeed, the fool can counter by criticizing them, and if they are undeniable, they can just be pushed aside as trivial exceptions. So the fool, as distinct from the scoundrel, is completely self-satisfied. In fact, they can easily become dangerous, as it does not take much to make them aggressive. For that reason, greater caution is called for than with a malicious one. Never again will we try to persuade the stupid person with reasons, for it is senseless and dangerous.

Given just about every other national sports team in Aus is named after marsupials (like the soccer-roos men's team) they really should have been called the Soccer Quokka. Marketing levels --> through the roof.
