evilcat Posted February 8, 2020 Posted February 8, 2020 Game is great in first walkthought, on second you start to notice that the freedom of choice is an illusion. But first time it doesnt matter. Other significant thing is that it is adventure crpg, which is like new subgenre. If you take crpg and keep branching storyline, quest, skill tests, inventory but... minimalize combat and 9 tiers of spells people will still like it.
uuuhhii Posted February 8, 2020 Posted February 8, 2020 don't through dice for skill checks in video game how can there be so many developer still doesn't understand something so fundamental 1

It works perfectly well in this game.

But first time it doesnt matter. That's a fair point, but apart from NetHack, I don't think you can name one single crpg where the freedom of choice is real to any significant degree. And even in NetHack it's really limited, if you're interested in winning it. I mean, there's only one way.
bringingyouthefuture Posted February 20, 2020 Posted February 20, 2020 Is this game like Police Quest? I don't think I will get it, but it reminds me of an old Sierra game. “How do you 'accidentally' kill a nobleman in his own mansion?" "With a knife in the chest. Or, rather, a pair of knives in the chest...” The Final Empire, Mistborn Trilogy
xzar_monty Posted February 21, 2020 Posted February 21, 2020 To a certain extent it is, yes, with a little bit of Leisure Suit Larry decadence thrown in. It's an extremely well-written cRPG with Police Quest overtones. It's very heartily recommended, especially if you like good storytelling (as opposed to, say, mob fights). 1
bringingyouthefuture Posted February 28, 2020 Posted February 28, 2020 Okay you are convincing me, I have been resisting - how many game hours of playing do you think? “How do you 'accidentally' kill a nobleman in his own mansion?" "With a knife in the chest. Or, rather, a pair of knives in the chest...” The Final Empire, Mistborn Trilogy
xzar_monty Posted February 28, 2020 Posted February 28, 2020 Mine was just over 24 hours, but I understood perfectly well that there were many side quests I did not finish. So it's a bit on the short side, I would say, but definitely worth it.
bugarup Posted February 29, 2020 Posted February 29, 2020 Mine was pretty completionist, clocked in something like 35 hours. And it feels like a RPG, not Sierra or any other adventure game.
