The main way Nvidia are lying to us this time around is with multi frame generation. It's for high refresh rate monitors, like 240 hrz and beyond. in those cases it unlocks what the screen can do and looks very smooth and it's arguable worth the sacrifice. Although that's probably a game to game thing (whether it's "better", same, worse). And maybe patched drivers would solve some. The override function seems attached to Nvidia App, although you may be able to use Inspector and other such to force it outside of that, and/or for some not-whitelisted games. They're also lying about the tier of cards, the 5080 really is what used to be a xx70 series card, and the 5070 a xx60 class if you look at how cut down they are. Zoraptor Posted February 2 Posted February 2 Ironically that was one area where nVidia was far more consumer friendly than AMD- though of course they had the advantage of being the dominant vendor. Going right back to the 400/500 series AMD really ought to have had _70 top end number cards rather than _80. Though they've seemingly fixed it this gen as the 9070 supposedly has more CUs (/WGPs) than my 7800XT. (At least the 7800XT had ~mid tier pricing by the time I bought it)

In my price range (which is still double of what it used to be for decades), AMD are just as much of a compromise. That's why I have the RTX 3060 now, with 12GB and full 16 PCIe lanes (still on a PCIe 3.0 AM4 board). AMD took the RX 6600 and pitted it against that 1:1 (8GB, 8 lanes). The MSRP for the RX 6600 was even slightly higher... The RX 7600 as an overall package is inferior to the RTX 4060 as well. Really curious about the next wave of entry level cards. If AMD's not taking advantage of a RTX 5060 with 8GB in 2025, their loss. And if the RTX 5060 also sees minimal performance gains, an RTX 3060 Ti may still reign supreme over all of them, half a decade later. Take a look at Steam survey, GPU bestsellers on Amazon, Newegg and what kind of cards are in "affordable" gaming PCs people can buy and plug in and play... Edited February 4 by Sven_

I hear some people are already saying you should underclock your card. Imagine paying that sort of money for a GPU, and then having to underclock it for fear of the connection combusting... 1 Never attribute to malice that which can adequately be explained by incompetence.

No stuttering, no upscaling, no ray tracing, on the GOAT. the Gtx1080. 9 years old and still doing it. I think we are at a point where the graphics feature arms race is turning out to be quite detrimental to the overall experience, unless you are willing to pay an absurd amount of money you will be left wanting. They keep adding features that cancel out generational performance improvements and are themselves not as desirable as a stable framerate and frame time graph. Edited 11 hours ago by Also gorgon 1

Outside of bad ports: If you have a decent one, it should last until the PS6 generation (and the first exclusive games for it, which considering modern dev cycles takes another couple years). Consoles are running the show. And since AMD are behind in terms of GPU power, it will be interesting how those PS6 generations and their APUs are gonna look like... There's people still running Pascal series GPUs to this day. Wouldn't surprise me if Ada L. + Blackwell are gonna last even longer. That is, for those who don't need to be on the cutting edge of hardware. After all, Nvidia is also promoting those shiny new 1,000 Hz screens for probably reason. A thousand FPS, lol!
