I hate the idea that skills are tied to combat. I remember in the very beginning of PoE 1 Josh said something like skill and talent should be two different part. Skill should not improve combat performance or we will pick them based on their combat potential instead of role playing.

 

But then later they gives second winds to athletics, gives accuracy bonus to survive, which totally ruined this.

 

I thought in DF this will change since they depart active skill and passive skill, but it seems i'm wrong :) I have to pick history because it is tied to a cloak that +defense based on your history level, or pick intimidate because there is a breastplate tied to it...

I actually like this concept.

@OP: maybe something shows up when you hover your mouse over the current status effects next to your character portrait?

Where can you actually see the bonus value after modification? Its not under passive bonuses nor does the item description change?

Yeah, I had to check the combat log. For the large shield that scales with athletics and metaphysics it seems these are the formulas:

 

Deflection: 3 + Athletics/2

Damage reduction %: 10 + Metaphysics/2

 

And to be extra clear, I know my PEMDAS ;)

Where can you actually see the bonus value after modification? Its not under passive bonuses nor does the item description change?

 

They usually show up on the character's actual stats, if they're relevant there. For example, the Casita will show its actual deflection bonus on your character's deflection value if you mouse over - though sometimes you need to re-equip it.

 

Not sure about the ones that don't show up there though, like damage reduction. I guess combat log for those.
