  1. Have you contacted this person? Give him a piece of your mind. Unless you can find his adress, then you can give him a piece of a blunt object.
  2. Limited Backwards Compatibility means the Xbox games won't work with the Xbox 360, they need to recompile the Xbox games to be compatible with the 360, so you will either have to trade your games in for 360 compatible ones, or just buy new ones. Only the most popular games will be recompiled such as the Halo games, Jade Empire, the KOTORs etc. EDIT: Ok now its just confusing. First they say the games need to be recompiled, now they say they'll work... WTF http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=8996 <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, that sounds more like "backwards compatibility". Having to recompile games so they work on a new system isn't "limited backwards compatibility" it's no backwards compatibility.
  3. Wait, I don't understand. Do you mean someone stole the movies and is claiming them as his own? Or that your friend Jusso has become completely self-delusional and is imagining that he can make a game and calling his bedroom a studio? It's not really clear.
  4. You sould really not assume I am a atheist ... or that I am not. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Okay, rather than assume...I'll ask. What are you, in a religious sense?
  5. All righty. I haven't played with a wireless controller in many years, and back then they had to be pointed right at the console to work, meaning if you happened to move your arms much, the controller would stop working. Is this still the case with wireless controllers? Or has technology improved?
  6. Nah, the worst line was Vader's "NOOOO!" near the end. That was just very silly.
  7. Really? I loved the N64 controller. I thought it was the best of any out-of-the-box controller I'd ever seen. Then again, I'm a Nintendo fanboy, so maybe I'm a tad biased. Those specs don't say whether the 360 controllers are wired or not. Anyone know? Also, what exactly does "Limited Backwards Compatibility" mean? What won't it be able to play? If they don't port Jade Empire to PC, or if it's controls aren't so good, I may buy a 360 if it will play the first game. Otherwise, I think I'll wait for my beloved Nintendo.
  8. Faramir and I couldn't be more opposite in our positions on abortion, but even so I'm inclined to agree that Faramir is correct in his assessment of Jayque's argument. It was sensationalist, insulting, and childishly confrontational. EDIT: Hey! What happened to Faramir's post, just before mine? Just up an disappeared.

  10. Indeed, it was awfully cheesy. Mind you it was only cheesy because it was Vader, and not Anakin. That kind of over the top despair just doesn't work in the most badass costume in history.
  11. I went to the 10:30 showing today. There was no queue to get tickets (well, there were three people), and the cinema itself was pretty much empty. Looks like the Early Bird gets the Lightsaber.
  12. It's an egg with lots of little bumps on it. "
  13. You should. It really is supercoolmegawhoppingubertotallyawesome. Everything from the in-game graphics to the wonder movies to the technology voiceovers is superbly done. Hmph. What option have you besides war?
  14. I'm just back from it. Personally, I thought it was surprisingly above average. Not great, but quite good considering how awful the last two were. I was disappointed most particularly by Ewan MacGregor's poor performance, but other than that, it was a pretty fun movie to watch. The Lightsaber battles were particularly good, but the poor attempts at humour fell flat. If you go in expecting a film with lots of fighting and violence and cool special effects, you won't be disappointed. If you are looking for something emotionally or intellectually engaging, you will. All in all, I'd give it a 6 out of 10. For Comparison: Ep I: 2/10 Ep II: 1/10 Ep III: 6/10 Ep IV: 8/10 Ep V: 9/10 Ep VI: 7/10 So, way better than the first two, not as good as any of the OT.
  15. Graphics are important to me, but they need not be realistic, or 3D, as long as they look pretty. Most of my favourite games are SNES or Gameboy RPGs or Acion-Adventure games. Chrono Trigger hardly had realistic graphics, but they sure are quite cute to look at. If the graphics are ugly (be it bad 3D, bad lighting, no graphics at all), I find it hard to enjoy the game.
  16. Bah! The second one at least was way, way better than HoI or HoI2. More events, more epic, more fun. Then again, medieval history interests me far more than WWII. The Workshop system worked extremely well in SMAC. While I have no doubt that this new system won't be as good as the Workshop system (which offered basically unlimited choice), I am confident that it will at least be a good system, since it seems the system will be loosely based on the Workshop.
  17. Personally, with what it looks like they're doing with Civ4, I think AC should just be an expansion. Have 2 modes for it, one you can just play a standard AC game from the start, or in a regular game it bypasses space race victory and starts you up on AC once your colony ship reaches the planet. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> They had that in Civ 2 Test of Time, but personally I didn't much like the execution of it. And having played SMAC, I'm not sure it'd feel right playing on AC without the storyline and the factions I have come to love over the years. Kicking the Russians off AC as China just wouldn't be as much fun as kicking the University off as the Hive. But who knows, maybe they'd be able to pull it off better than last time.
  18. morons! this is supposed to be an epic game; not some dumbed down board game... i guess the mod community will have their hands full once again. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Having less units doesn't mean a dumbed down game. This promotion system sounds quite a bit like the workshop in SMAC, so there will be less units, but you can tailor the units in-game to make them individual. Why have Infantry and Mountain Infantry, when you can just have Infantry and give some the mountaineering ability? Less units, more choice. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> no. less units, less options, less advanced. look at a game like hearts of iron; tons of units. tons of options. like the carrier; why is there only one type? there's a big difference between modern carriers with nucluear propulsion and the old carriers from the 40s... like i said; dumbed down. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Uh huh, so you take a carrier unit, fit it with the nuclear propulsion upgrade, upgrade it with a bigger deck, add x, y, and z, and you have a modern carrier. Without the upgrades, you have a carrier from the 40s. And if you want to look at Hearts of Iron, why not look it's predecessor, Europa Universallis? That had only three units, infantry, cavalry and artillery, and that was hardly a "dumbed down board game" for it.
  19. In the case of rape, fair enough. But otherwise, I don't see how pregnancy is "cruel and unusual punishment". People should accept their responsibility, not kill someone to cover it up. Life is sacred. What to you is "a bunch of cells" is to another a human life. Forcing someone to grow a parasite inside their body certainly stikes me as cruel and unusual. It requires them to change their lifestyle, causes sickness, and ends in several hours of excruciating pain. The extreme physical pain alone certainly makes it a coropal punishment, and we usually consider things like beatings and floggins cruel and unusual, so why not Labour? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> To be blunt: It's not the babies fault the mother didn't know how to properly use birth control...she should take responsibility. Her rights do not extend to killing an inconvienient child. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The Child's right to life does not extend to forcing hours of torture on its mother against her will. Frankly, though, I don't think there's any chance we're going to come to an agreement on this.

  22. There are plenty of occasions on which we place a person's right to security of their body above somoene else's life. It is illegal to torture somoene, even if it would save someone else's life, even if the person we wish to torture was the one putting the person's life in jeopardy. Forcing someone to carry a pregnancy to term is a cruel and unusual punishment. It is the woman's body, and its her right to decide what to do with it. If that means that a clump of cells in her womb have to have their lives snuffed out, that's a shame, but so be it.
  23. Righty. Here goes: I have no problem with abortion. It's the woman's body, and she should have a right to do what she wishes with it. That said, it's the woman's body, so if she wants something expensive done to it, she has to pay for it. I'm opposed to state-funding of abortions. It is none of the state's business what two consenting adults do, whether they are of the same or opposite sexes. This means that neither gays nor heterosexuals should have a "right" to marry, because marriage is outside of the scope of government. A marriage is between the two partners and (if they wish) God/dess. Many of the benefits granted to married couples should not be benefits at all, and the rest should be available to all citizens. A nice forum for debate, but I wouldn't trust an organisation filled with mass-murderers on things such as human rights any further than I could throw them. but that's a consequence of it being open to everyone. I had my own reasons for supporting the war, as we were removing a genocidal dictator. No matter how powerful, killers should be brought to justice wherever possible. That said, I believe Mr. Blair lied about the existence of WMD in Iraq, and I have very dissimilar political beliefs. As such, I don't like the guy. Ken Clarke should be PM. He's a nice guy, and the British politician I trust the most. The Conservative's biggest mistake since Blair came to power has been to pass over him repeatedly, as I think if the British public had a choice between him and Blair, they'd pick Clark. I don't know enough about this whole Global Warming shindig to be suggesting policy on it, but Rosbjerg once presented me with some interesting evidence suggesting that carbon emissions weren't be biggest environmental problem we were facing. As such, I'd cautiously suggest that we look at ways of making fossil feuls safer (better oil spill safeguards, better refining techniques to remove non-carbon polluters from the feuls, at least until renewable methods become efficient and cost-effective enough to replace fossil feuls with a minimum of problems.
  24. I hear that! I have an exam next week, and I've got feck all revision planned.
  25. Thank god! Social Engineering was one of the best aspects of Alpha Centauri. Nice to see Firaxis finally realised it should be in Civilization. No attack and defence rating? This worries me. It worries me a lot. The only problem is that you might start off plaing a normal game, and wish it went on for much longer, because of some interesting circumstances. I hope there is an option in game to lengthen it. Otherwise, this game looks like it will be t3h r0xx0r. Especially if they are bringing back the advisor movies. They were so unbeieveably cool. Especially the modern era trade advisor when you still hadn't discovered Trade: "Trade, Sir! Discover it! This is you! This is a clue! Get a clue! Discover Trade!" Ahh. Can't wait. :D
