For the record, my favourite gameworld would probably be Planet/Chiron from Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri. It may not have had the sheer depth of a CRPG world, or a pen and paper setting, but the characters and the factions were surprisingly enjoyable for stereotypes, and all the quotes, movies and technologies, as well as the story itself were nicely done, and make it my favourite gameworld, and one of my favourite games.

Having never read the Main setting book for the FR, does it actually deal with the areas of Aber-Toril outside of Faerun? If it just deals with Faerun, it'd make it more of a continent than a world, I think. For that matter, if we're being pedantic, couldn't you say that the FR is a setting, while Aber-Toril is the gameworld?

Isn't Spelljammer the D&D Multiverse's equivalent to our real world space? "

What music are you listening to right now?

I downloaded that song on lunch and it has been making me smile all day! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If you liked that, you should get "Critical Hit on My Heart" by Marshall Grey. Cringeworthy. :D I'm currently running through my Billy Joel's Greatest Hits CD, so right now it's: Everybody Loves You Now - Billy Joel -
I think one problem is that the religious left may believe in things like loving thy neighbour and helping the poor because of what it says in the bible, but realise that arguments based on secular reasoning are far more persuasive. Which presents the problem that even if the moderate christians are very vocal, they use secular arguments to support their beliefs, so the fact that a great many of the people who oppose the religious right are religious also doesn't really register. Oh, and just to clarify, I'm not actually Christian, on the left or the right. I'm a Discordian with Libertarian politics.

I think I might have been on it once. Yeuch. But I had an American friend from some time ago who went on it. Someone fooled her into thinking she was talking to the son of the CEO of Pepsi Co. <_< But then, I've never liked Chatrooms, so I 'd like a massively multiplayer version even less.

Stop it. "Christianity", and "Christian Fundamentalism" are not the same thing. The Major churches all accept Science as a means to understanding God's creation, and as such see logic and science as a positive thing. The Major Churches all accept the Big Bang theory as the way in which the universe was created. Similarly, though not all the major churches accept evolution, most of them have said that evolutionary theory does not conflict with the teachings of Christianity. Religious people have been the driving force behind logic and science for as long as the two have existed. It is true that most obstruction of science is perpetrated by the religious, also, but the case you appear to be making, that all religious people are hate filled lunatics completely incapable of reasoning or thinking for themselves and dedicated to the destruction of independent thought, is patently false. Now, there's no denying that many people, especially in the US, are fanatical in their Christianity. But such people make up a minority of Christians in the western world, and I'd bet are actually a (very vocal) minority of Christians in the United States as well. Tarring all Christians on the basis of the actions of Christian Fundamentalists is in my opinion roughtly equivalent to blaming the Democratic Party for Stalinism. As a side note, many of the Founding Fathers in the US were Deists, which at the time was the preferred form of non-religion over Atheism, and some may have been Atheists. Those that weren't were absolutely dedicated to religious freedom, and making the United States a country for people of all religions.

Some say "One dice four", which is the pronunciation used in the song, however, I and those I know have always pronounced it "One dee four". Personally, I think "one dee four" is more consistent, since when people say things like "F16" or "AK-47", they usually pronounce the letters rather than what they stand for. Not that it's a big deal, or anything. " -

Always the First to Die - Unknown Artist A lovely cheesy song about being a 1st level Wizard. "Some Guys get Chain or Plate/Or a big-ass sword that does 1d8/I get the lantern and a ten foot pole/and some robes with this thing that does 1d4, 1d4/I only do 1d4..." :D -
Will you buy LucasArts products after KOTOR II?
Reveilled replied to ncr's topic in Computer and Console
Another maybe vote. If a game looks good, I might buy it after finding out what others think of it. -
:D I just roll dice at random times to worry my players. It really is quite fun when they're just walking through an empty corridor and they fly into a blind panic just because I rolled a ton of dice.

Actually, I'll have you know that my group contains two females! Nyah! :D

What a bunch of wimps. " <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Meh. What's a DM to do? They prefer swords and sorcery, it just turns out. To tell the truth, I'm kinda happy about it, since it's given me the opportunity to use the super-evil Tainted Sorceress I'd planned as the central villain of the new campaign. A proper evil-to-the-core bitch. Can't wait. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I hope she appears butter-wouldn't-melt-in-her-mouth sweetness and light, and even offers to "help" them ... and she is soooooooooooo comely and charismatic that I'm sure they will have no qualms about her assisting them in any way ... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Actually...I've done that a few too many times in the past, to the point that if I did it again, my players would just get pissed off and start adopting the "stab first, roleplay later" tactic. Instead, I'm going with the ol' party lets loose an unspeakable evil accidentally method. Much easier to do.

Do you believe in the idea of Democracy?
Reveilled replied to Kaftan Barlast's topic in Way Off-Topic
I'm a constitutional democrat with all my heart. There are things which I believe no amount of a majority disliking them should be able to remove, certain inalienable rights that transcend democracy. People should not be allowed to force their will on others without their consent, and the closest practical system to that ideal is a democracy. -
I'm just curious. I've had the boardgame for a while, but I've never been able to find enough people to play a real game. For anyone who isn't aware of what I'm talking about, Diplomacy is a game sort of like risk, except that the board covers only Europe at the start of the 20th century, and the entire game is focused on diplomacy, alliances, betrayals, lies and deceptions. You try to convince the other six players that you're on their side, in order to manipulate them into trusting you and doing exactly what you want them to do. It sounds like a brilliant game, but sadly I've never been able to play it. Maybe someone has an interesting story or two to share?

You are referring to the mind/brain seperation. I.e. the "brain" is the physical mass of fat, endocrine glands & secretions, and axions & dendrites that make up the corporeal structure including the spinal cord. The "Mind" is the soul or spirit. (Some people suggest that only people have a mind, regardless of the animals that are more intelligent.) Is the Mind a part of the Brain? Knock yourself out: you've just hit the philosophical boundary of experimental neuroscience! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Or whether the mind is on the hard disc or in the RAM.

The machinist was...very strange. VERY strange. But it was fairly good. No idea about a DVD release. All those silly girls' magazines about which celebrity is the skinniest seem to have entirely missed Christian Bale in that film. He got so thin for it, you could practically see his spine from the front.

That depends on whether you were talking to Kaftan, Jediphile or me. I've never DMed a Play By Posting or Play By E-Mail game, so I doubt I'd be much good at it. Plus, my players decided to keep going with D&D instead of CoC, so I've never really DMed a CoC game either. But if someone else is DMing, I'd be happy to be a player, whether we do it on the board here or through email.

Just because you get to kill people in a game doesn't make it any more mature. If you ask me, gun-based violence and stealing cars is a whole lot more childish and immature than a platform or adventure game. It's games like GTA and Quake that are childish, not Mario or Zelda. <_< <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I thought the was rather evident. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Bah. I have a terrible headache. Both my reading ability and sarcasm detector are on the fritz, evidently.

Something that came up over dinner.

You have to show them IV-VI first otherwise they dont have the same impact. Luke I am your Father... Well tell us something we didnt know two movies ago why dont you Darth. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Will it make a difference? Unless his kids are like five when he shows it to them, they'll already know. I know I knew Vader was Luke's father about five years before I actually saw ESB. Hell, I could pretty much recite the scene before I saw the film. I mean, that scene and the line "I am your father" are probably the most famous and over-cliched pieces of Cinema in history, so I think the chances of his kids being surprised are slim. -
Which console are you signing up for?

Poor Eldar. He's got no friends, so he DMs for his Xbox. :D:p -
As the song says, I like Bukkake. I don't like furries, and I don't always start the talking about them. For instance, here, you started talking about them. Only two things in this world disgust and scare me. One is Furries, and the other is James Spader and William Shatner having graphic and sweaty gay sex in an upcoming episode of Boston Legal.
