  1. Yer all pussies with yer fancy machine guns. Real men be usein' flintlocks and rapiers: My god, I want that sword. That sword is teh roxxor. Plus, it crits on an 18-20. Ooh baby.
  2. The Rise and Fall of the Great Powers. I feel so sad and geeky. Sadly I'm all out of fiction.
  3. Couldn't he? What if you're just imagining it all? Maybe you're just incapable of accepting your lot as a bacterium, and have manufactured a huge fantasy universe in which you are the macrobiology in order to escape from the common cold hard truth. Hmmmmmmm? In fact, according to Discordian Scripture and the saying of the prophet Mal-2, it is clearly stated that everything, even false things, are true. Sorry.
  4. The latest edition, standard map, no variant rules, other than general house rules like "Don't decieve the GM" and such. I'll lay all house rules out when we've got our players, but it'll all be pretty basic stuff. Four left for our game. I hope we can get others to fill those spots.
  5. Not at all useless info: Diplomacy is a fun game. A very fun game. You should play it. You should play it by email. You should play it by email, now. it's a very fun game.
  6. I only went to see X-Men 2 for Brian Cox, because he's the most awesomest actor ever. Given that this film both looks crap and won't feature Brian Cox (right?), I will not see it.
  7. But I think there is some room for being subjective. For instance, many people define altruism as good, and selfishness as evil. A philosophy like Objectivism, on the other hand, defines selfishness as good (though it doesn't use the conventional definition of selfishness), and altruism as evil. But going by the definitions provided in the Player's Handbook, altruism is good, while a philosophy like Objectivism is Chaotic Neutral, so there is considerable disagreement over the terms good and evil. Your definitions there seem to be of Lawful Good and Chaotic Evil. What about an evil tyrant who holds an iron grip on order and the structure of his nation, in order to benefit almost solely from it's orderly functioning? Or a freedom fighter who brings down said tyrant and destroys the structure of government? Those would be Lawful Evil and Chaotic Good (thought the latter could also be CN), respectively.
  8. First off, I am aware that this is in the wrong forum, but it would seem that a lot fewer people read Pen-and-Paper Gaming than read Way Off-Topic, so we're looking for players. As such, I'd like to request that if a moderator feels some sort of action is needed with this thread, that they either give me the benefit of the doubt, or close it so that people here can still read it, even if they have to go into our thread on PnP to discuss it. Okay. Basically, there is an old boardgame called Diplomacy, which is set in Europe at the start of the 20th century, with each player playing as one of the Great Powers of the time. The object of the game is to control more than half of Europe through the maniplulation of the other players into doing what you want them to do. For instance, playing as England, you might negotiate an alliance with France against Germany, while simultaneously organising an alliance with Germany versus France, so that one attacks the other and you can pick them off as you like. Sound fun? I hope so! The way the game would probably work (though we can make other arrangements if most of the players prefer) is that once a week, you would send the gamemaster (which will probably be me) your orders for your units, which are all resolved and revealed to the other players simultaneously. For the rest of the week, the players would email each other to negotiate treaties, alliances, and plan operations, and at the end of the week on the basis of those negotiations, you'd send in your next set of orders. If you're interested, here are the rules, here is a map, and here is our thread in pen and paper, where we would love you to join our game. We now have all our players, so we're more or less ready to go! Players: Metadigital EnderWiggin Baley Kaftan Archmonarch Jaguars4ever Aishur
  9. Yay! :D I'm going to go see if we can find our other five players in Way Off-Topic.
  10. Akchully, I already called CN, so you've got at least one of them. And am I a nutjob? Wait, don't answer that.
  11. Bleuch. Linkin' Park were the Busted of Metal. Did they even have a song longer than 4 minutes? Terrible band, but awesome second music video. That one where they're on that huge temple thing.
  12. As long as you get my point, I'm happy, even if you had to make it for me.
  13. Could they make a bridge out of you? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> They could, but they can also make bridges out of stone.
  14. If y'all have any interest, we could maybe do a PBEM game. We'd need eight people (we could find some people in way off topic, I'm sure). If you're interested, here are the rules
  15. Ah, but sir, there is a fatal flaw in thine argument! Thou assumest that the child will be listening (or present) in class to learn.
  16. Hmm...*fishes out player's handbook* Scratch what I said before. A character with 0 Strength falls to the ground and is helpless. A character with 0 Dexterity is paralysed. A character with 0 Constitution is dead, while a 0 in Intelligence, Wisdom or Charisma is unconcious. So uglification can knock you out.
  17. You can't burn me. I don't weigh the same as a duck.
  18. Useless info: I haven't seen Rosbjerg, that danish guy, about recently. I wonder where he went.
  19. When I read that a light year was the distance from the sun to the earth, my jaw literally droped in awe of the most huge mistake ever used as an insult. There must be some sort of award for this kind of thing.
  20. Yes, anything below ten gives a -1 to the score every two points. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's the modifier, not the score. It is not possible to have negative score in D&D, as when a character reaches 0 in an ability, he or she is dead. However, certain monsters have no value in a certain ability, which is distinguised from having a 0 because said mosters do not need the ability to function. For instance, a construct does not need a constitution score, as it has no life or health. However, a 0 in constitution for an organic means that the heart is too weak to pump blood, the immune system has broken down, etc. etc. Or at least, so memory serves me.
  21. I didn't like Fallout.
  22. The Chromatics - Doppler Shifting I'd like to thank author and TV cryptologist Simon Singh for introducing me to the wonderful world of songs about physics. :D
  23. Anyone remember that show on Channel 4 called Wanted? Useless info, unless you happen to be an executive at Channel 4: That show was t3h roxxor, and should never have been taken off the air.
  24. To be honest, that sounds a whole lot more like a hypothesis than a theory. But hey, maybe.
  25. Wait, what? Economic system? Last I checked, the closest thing to an economic system in Diplomacy is that certain provinces are supply centres. I'm talking about a decades old board game. What is it you mean?
