A class of AOE spells, not necessarily damage, would be relatively awesome, but as the entirety of the wizard class? Wizards mean Arcane, and typically books and study as well. Exactly what 'arcane' means differs but it's generally synonymous with wizard. The idea that arcane and wizard means ranged attack damage... well, that sounds like a specialist wizard to me.

Carry Weight?

Yeah, I'd rather have something or not have something than 'feel' like I have it and discover the feature is 'all show' and has no actual use. I mean, even aesthetic features exist to increase immersiveness and multiple choices with no change in result exist to enhance the roleplay function. This just seems superflouous. -
whips n chains n wizzies
Flayeriv replied to serenityangel's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I would personally not mind seeing whips included as a flavour item. I mean, have them be bad as weapons, good reach but low damage, but make the magical versions uniquely enchanted or something. So it animates on its own to trip or entangle or the like.- 25 replies

No physical edition?
Flayeriv replied to Omagatoki's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I have to admit, I approve of that approach, buying only if there's a physical and digital copy. It keeps you safe and chips in a little extra for the businesses involved. -

Although they did have a very strong 'lesbian' type episode within the first half of season one. And I do the quotation marks deliberately, it was VERY heavily implied. -

A pugalist style would be awesome as an unarmed style. -

Well the idea of a pilgrimage for a start. Mechanically you'd be looking at only light armour, and weapon combinations/special features would be focused on having a weapon paired up with a buckler. Combat techniques would focus on a single target and the character would inherently have high skills in knowledges, lore, etc. If you want to keep close to I33, you could have a lot of fun with counters too (I block a strike, I hit you harder), but as it would be focused on dealing with one target, it would also be weaker against groups. Finally, the big institution it's associated with is a university - medieval universities were often founded from religious coin. So... really it's like a cross between a rogue and a monk connected to learned society more than it is a paladin. -
Carry Weight?

Me too because small aspects of simulationism do nothing but complement the roleplaying experience with realism and therefore immersion, without doing anything negative at all. Not sure if legit or sarcasm. If legit, cheers but sometimes it can be negative. If sarcasm, usually I find it does compliment, and when done well gives players like me yet another thing to love about the genre. -

To be perfectly honest, rather than another Asiatic monk in a European setting, I'd rather see them break out a scholar-priest class. Anyone familiar with manuscript I33 would know that the earliest medieval sword and buckler manual we have depicts a university student and a monk/priest sparring as a means of teaching them self defence - possibly for safety when on pilgramage. That would be a pretty cool idea to see in a game someday. -
So, Beta testers. Will we be able to insert our own custom portraits for characters as has been allowed by previous games?

While 1.4 slow down is probably a bit much, I'm quite glad they've done this. It makes the simulationist in me smile. -

I prefer the simulationist approach too. First thing I'll try to mod whe it comes out, move the stash so it can only be accessed while in your stronghold. -
I'd kind of agree with some magic spell cross over, it allows you to reliably repeat a tactic. Druids have summon natures ally? Guess what! Wizards have summon monster! Clerics have healing? Druids also have healing! Need a magic weapon buff? Wizard, Cleric, get over here. If everyone is specialised too much you can specialise out of a job. BUT, I'm not a beta tester, so I don't know how well it may in fact have been implemented.

Ah, Xena. Yeah something like that wandering around with a companion would be awesome, even if there were no love interest, or if the love interest only existed for one or two particular combinations of your PC. One of the most annoying things I've found in many games is when the romance is literally just one dialogue choice (*Cough* Witcher 1 *cough*) and hey presto, romance happens. Seriously, if you're going to do that you're better off just throwing in a brothel.
