One thing i loved about BG over other rpg's was the fact once you killed a guy and looted his stuff it was actually what you saw him wear before you killed him. Unlike other random drop systems. U see a archer with leathers. Then you looted the guy of his leathers and hide. But it would be nice to have the armour you looted damaged from your attacks so you needed access to the skills to repair it later

I want to see a barter trade system added. Yes god works but trading x.y.z items for lets say f.g.h items would be good. Or quests where if you collected several things i will trade this item for them. You could make it region based. A shortage of one time is worth more in that location than another. Or you will find people in colder places value oil and animal furs more than in a hotter a place. Item trade would be more common in rural location than cities.

Culture is a very powerful thing. With a wide mix across many years of tradition. But in the GAME we need good and bad things and all the grey inbetween so we as a character and player makes the good or bad or middle road choices. And have a diverse and widely different cultural mix with good and bad points will help to flesh out the ethos of the game. Because hey not every civilization was a bed of roses it hads it darker and lighter sides. So coming across a slaver town is possible in a rpg fantasy game. Or a place where women are not allowed swords. Lord of the rings touched on that instance in the movies. But then we could find a all women warrior civilization on the other side of the map where women are the hunters.

how big is game map?
darthdraken replied to darthdraken's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I loved oblivion and morrow wind and skyrim and they weee not a random generated dungeon. Diablo was generated map design. -
I was talking about fantasy forms of media. but if you want to get historical then that's ok too. history is littered with human rights violations, take turkey, it was only until after world war one when Mustafa Kemal ataturk deposed the ottoman empire that women were allowed to go to public schools and given rights to vote. even in the uk women could not vote up until 1918 or even many Islamic countries where the rights of a woman is greatly reduced and is seen as the norm because of that's countries belief or how society in a whole feel traditions are. how about the American civil war and slavery. or the right to practise ones religion.. even to this day there are still restrictions on people across the globe based on laws, beliefs, even dictatorships etc etc etc. but in a game set lets say in the 10th or 11th century but with magic and other fantasy things, all the problems of the human races are reflected in these realms and ethos. lord of the rings the issues between dwarfs and elves. or the racist comment of sam towards strider calling him longshanks.. a label a name that's is clearly insulting towards a taller person (human). in this game I can see real life moral compass situation in some stories that leave it half felt, if they don't touch on that with real life issues then how can we relate. I loved the racist side in BG with the dark elf. a good moral compass makes a good game.

I guess some people same to take this point too far. Many books. Games. Movies. Have some form of injustice towards a race or gender. And in a world of fantasy involving magic and weapons and many beasts and races then the lore of that type would depict the way gender and race are used. In BG was slaves in cells in dungeons does that mean we need to all stand outside the development studios and complain? How about the fact that in BG knowledge was only for the learned.. Does that mean only educated people were entitled to read and write? In a game like this set in a time when laws were created by whoever had the standing army. Ie regional lord, or town mayor. Human rights or any raced rights did not exist. Thats the time period we are looking at.

Fallout for is newvegas for me -
I liked apoc because of the time pause feature. And one mission i loved. Five aliens were on a fire escape on the side of a building. I blew up the bottom of the fire escape and the entire thing collapsed. And all the aliens died. It was funny as hell. I did hate the retro thing and the ending part bit hey loved the game

The simplified version of xcom by praxis is in its self a good game. But limited on many levels. If you ever played the original then the difference is very obvious. If you like xcom the original look up xenonauts. Or the ufo series. I love the piraxis game and expansion but it to me is mission so much more of what it could of been. Only one base. One transport. Only one alien base. Etc etc. The original had aliens building loads of bases and you could attack all.of them. And in time fly to mars to finish them.off. And that spawned xcom 2 terror from the deep. A even harder game but still good story line. I hope piraxis expand a hell of a lot more and create more freedom and give us multiple bases. Enemy bases etc. Even scrapping on the moon would be cool. Etc etc

Venting is always good. Back story, actual ethoes, and solid character base is always important to me. You can always tell a rushed job by flagging things from many other stories and places.. But if it was the GM picked one location. Merp, SW, earth, even a city and you slowly use places objects and names from that one ethos then discovering where you are can be fun as you get to relate to it and start to understand how that world works. For me i dont mind if a GM uses any setting as long as its all of that setting so i know how the world works what laws are used, how people talk and who is whos enemy. But a strong back story is the foundation of a strong adventure.

If you play a charactee thats not following your personality in real life then thats the point of rollplaying... Otherwise you just play yourself. Its a form of escapism. Creating a back story for why he is the way he is always helps when i play a negative or clashing character. Trick is to be a bad person or disruptive but also to become useful. So you become a nessesary evil. A lot of tv programs have similar type characters no body likes them but they nees them. What is infact harder to play is a paladin. Trying todo everything for the right reasons is a lot harder than you think. Remember if you play a character nobody likes in the party to not take it personally from the fellow players as its rollplaying.. Trick is a balance look at who you are character wise, what skills you have, how you want to develope the character and what skills the group lack. Then using your character fill in the gaps if you can. Become valuable, even something as saving one characters life is enough. Or even being able to find food where other people cant. Or that all important being able to see danger coming. But remember never play your rl self in a rpg othewise whats the point.

I would love to know how big the map will be in relation to baldurs gate 1/2 and expansions. I have played all of the games in this area amd would love a vast world with loads and loads of location. One of the only downers for me playing any of the games in the past was my world map size expectation. Over the last few years i have been playing more and more open world style games and is a key feature for me. Examples. Fallout 3/4 Oblivion and skyrim. Xenonauts. Zomboid. Arma games. You get the picture. I grew up on baldurs gate and all the spin offs and hope beyond hope this is the 2014 awards game of the year for rpg's. And hope i have thousands of locations to explore. Looking forward to this game 100%

Rolling works for me regardless of game or system. But a play gets no more than 2 rerolls and is stuck with the final roll. If a player is going for a certain class or roll plays a type of character then i can edge towards stats in that direction by adding a feat or special one off skill. Depending on the campaign and when that character enters. Also i am flexible with background stories the more detailed and better the more points they get for the effort. Its important to enjoy creating as well as playing. And if a player is killed they create a new character slightly below a level or skills of other players. Remember the rules in books are a guide more than the set rule. But a good foundation to start from. Make sure to be flexable and realistic.
