I hoped back when IWD 2 was in pre-production, aka a glimmer in the devs eyes, that we'd have both a generated party and joinable peeps. Sort of how Avernum did it.

A good story also moves the game forward, preventing it from stagnating.

Well, there's noting to explain really. It's a party-based rpg full of combat with a great area design and a decent story. One of the few rpgs where party creation and tactics really matter. And I loved how different races and classes sometimes got radically different responses and even quests from the peeps on the journey.
