  4. http://www.gamespy.com/articles/588/588057p1.html?fromint=1 i'm not saying that i agree or disagree. i'm merely showing you the opinion of one person.
  5. this was written by the libertarian committee, and as such this info is obviously not objective. however, since its effects could be enormous, i suggest you take a look, and above all think for yourselves: Are the terrorists winning? When al-Qaeda attacked the United States on September 11, 2001, they made it clear they hate America and want to terrorize us into changing America. If they could, the terrorists would destroy the unique American way of life. But they can't. Only we can do that. Tragically, too much of the legislation enacted by Congress in a knee-jerk reaction to 9/11 does al-Qaeda's job for them. The Patriot Act took the first, disastrous step toward fundamentally changing our way of life. Then came the homeland security bill, followed by the 9/11 intelligence reorganization bill. And now the Real ID Act of 2005 (H.R. 418) will be voted on Thursday, February 10th. What's wrong with H.R. 418 -- a bill we are told will stem the flow of illegal aliens through our porous borders? For starters, it does NOTHING to stem the flow of illegal aliens. Instead, H.R. 418 will: 1. Establish a national ID card. 2. Establish a federally-coordinated database of personal information on American citizens with Canada and Mexico. 3. Use the new national ID to track American citizens when traveling outside the U.S. -- and within the U.S. 4. Re-define "terrorism" in broad new terms that could include members of firearms rights and anti-abortion groups or other such groups as determined by whoever is in power at the time. 5. Authorize the secretary of the Department of Homeland Security to unilaterally expand the information included in driver's licenses, including such biometric information as retina scans and DNA information -- and even radio frequency identification (RFID) tracking technology. Carry a driver
  6. http://rainbow.arch.scriptmania.com/rainbow_tv_episode.html also, beware of zippy on the far right...
  7. sure thing. also try: planet fargo (each is basically a hit or a miss): http://www.gamespy.com/articles/?constrain...ion=PlanetFargo the gaming gourmet (real recipes): http://archive.gamespy.com/legacy/chef/ (i dare you to try some White Trash Helper) and the naminator: http://archive.gamespy.com/naminator/
  8. i know! and it also sucks that there will be no new chef fromage (except if enough people request it again, minus the angry letters). at least we still have planet fargo and a good flintlocke every now and then.
  9. anyone ever read these? anything fargo writes (chef fromage, daily victim, planet fargo, the naminator?) on gamespy.com is amazing. here are some good ones: http://archive.gamespy.com/dailyvictim/index.asp?id=459 http://archive.gamespy.com/dailyvictim/index.asp?id=692 here's the site: http://archive.gamespy.com/dailyvictim/popular.asp
  10. 12%? ouch! mine is 4.25%, for me, simply making those interest payments with a part time job can hurt ye olde wallet. you have my sympathies.
  11. i don't know if obsidian considers this spamming, but thanks once again.
  12. thank you so very much, mr. morgan. your answers are invaulable. :D personally, i am most interested in (and least familiar with) the development cycle. how did your responsibilities as a designer change or progress during each stage of KOTR2's development, and what new challenges did each new stage bring? what challenges or advantages have you found in working in a team? have you ever though of keeping a designer's (or i guess now associate producer's) diary (perhaps similar to the designer's diary on gamespy, the programmer's diary on this board, or an electronic diary)? jotting down a few short sentences on the day's events whenever you feel like it (and not when you don't) could help put people in your shoes, and provide great insight into the day to day happenings of a developer. what software do you need to be familiar with as an entry level designer? is being a designer mostly pen and paper work and presenting your ideas to others, or is it physically implementing them too?
  13. -what were your major(s) in college; -which major(s) or minors would you recommend, which are recommended across the industry; -what made you want to become a game designer, what did you do to ensure that you achieved that goal; -did you play a lot of video games before you were hired (and do you now), or just really appreciate the few you play; -what other jobs did you consider applying for, game industry or otherwise; -how did you present your skill to your interviewers (portfolio, design documents, working demo?) -what is the most important thing to know/keep in mind/do going into an interview in such a coveted position, what are the worst things to do; -why do you think they picked you out of everyone (because of strengths, mindset, experience, perhaps very convincing?); -how did they test your skills; -what tasks or jobs have you had to do as a designer that you weren't told about in the interview; -did they take note of where you went to college and what you majored in, or were they more interested in the skills you were able to present; -what made you better than others applying to obsidian(what made you more desireable and/or stand out in a crowd?); -about how many rejections abroad did you get before you were seriously considered, and what did you learn from them; -what design or gaming experience did you have going into the industry; -what expectations did you have going in to the industry, and how have they changed; -what path would you recommend to a person wanting to become a designer, (and even if you strongly recommend it) and is a college degree necessary; -what would a typical day at obsidian consist of for you; -describe, if you can, a non-typical day you had at obsidian; -how much contact did you have with programmers and artists working on KOTR2, do you see them often; -what do you feel was your best contribution to KOTR2, what do you wish you had done differently or had a hand in; -what are your likes and dislikes of your job (the position itself, not being at obsidian); -typically, how many hours a day do you work? does that differ from hours said during your interview; -what is the atmosphere like? casual? team-oriented? stressful?; -what advice would you give a designer about to start his/her job (on his first day); -do you have any programming or artistic skill; -have you held any positions at wizards of the coast; -is there anything else you can say about your job and what it consists of, how to become a designer, experience every person applying for a design position or any other position should have, what to expect working at a game studio, in a team, or as a designer in general, or anything you wish you would've done differently or known in how to become a designer? sorry for such a huge list/request, you need not answer every one. thank you very much for any answer(s) you can give.
  14. has anyone else noticed that gamespot always seems to be right on top of game or other info being discussed at obsidian (or interplay back in the days of blackisle)? either the people at gamespot are really bored and just love to read game message boards, or somebody up there is a fan. or, perhaps i'm just slightly paranoid.

  17. taks: i'm interested to know what you (or anyone else who knows the science behind the theories in this site or others like it) think of this website: http://www.thepowerhour.com/911_analysis/french-911.htm i cannot and will not try to prove or disprove whatever remarks are said; this is simply for the sake of curiousity.
  18. KainiaK, one of the biggest reasons for not getting something done is by thinking that it is too late. i, possibly the worst (or best) procrastinator in the history of mankind, thought about doing some computer "stuff" in highschool, but that's about it. i watched as many of my close friends took Cisco classes and became extremely computer literate, while i did nothing. i didn't even know what i was going to go into in college, in fact, didn't even decide to register for college until 2 weeks before the start of the semester. why? because besides not knowing what college would hold for me, i didn't want school to get into the way of me playing Dark Alliance 2. i am still officially undeclared while taking programming classes. also, i am 20 years old. the difference between you and i is that you have a plan that's been waiting for you, but put on hold because of a tragedy. believe me when i say that the best time to do something about it is now, because there is always tomorrow to do something, and a tomorrow after that. do something today, or the only thing you'll keep with you through the years is the knowledge that "i shoud've and i could've done something before, but it's too late now". think about it. i hope this helps.
  19. how's the demo coming along, Guaigean?
  20. it's still being investigated. if they did it, i agree that they should have to pay the tourists, the owner of the boat, and the city... and humanity for the release of everyday. splice!

  22. i prefer Horse Thief myself. perhaps a topic for the NWN2 suggestions forum? i'm sure that mr. frankK and the devs would agree that a Keebler Elf would give Deekin a run for his money.
  23. don't know if this has been posted yet... http://www.gamespy.com/articles/493/493488p1.html
  24. hey joe, chickenloversteve here. how've you been? it's always good to see another familar face (so to speak). and mr. frankK... i go away for a couple of weeks, and you're now lead programmer? i guess all that extra time you put in from working like an insomniac with OCD modding quake 2 to being forced to do the same (but being paid to do it) with DA2 has paid off. congratulations!
  25. mr. anthonyD, would you care to share how you got into the gaming industry, and what qualifications you had at the time? we love stories, especially the ones with happy endings.
