I have to say that I'm really impressed with Honest Hearts. The area is beautiful, although I don't think it's any prettier than Red Rock. Of course, Zion does have a lot of water, which is quite nice. The computer terminal diary of the poor bastard who lost two sets of wives and children is compelling. Absolutely wondefully executed. The quests are a little weird, but it played pretty well. I also like that you really don't try to be a bleeding heart idiot and make friends with the white legs. They haven't offered to talk so far. They killed all my companions at the very beginning. No soul searching nonsense. They identified themselves as murderous enemies and I haven't had a second thought treating them as such. Very well done. New Vegas is truly a work of art.

This is not a bad idea, really. I tip my hat to you, sir! :Cant's hat tipping icon: That would be very, very, very nice. Sometimes even I underestimate the power of my sarcasm. Aw, bite me. I think it would be a great slap in the face to the folks who didn't LIKE Obsidian on facebook. lol Ooon the other hand, Tale probably has it right with the whole idea that it would require people to go through an optional area to get to a place that's going to take up a *lot* of resources.

Well, the good thing is that we've already got the paladins and Chanters. I've never been much of a bard fan in DnD, but I am a *huge* Homer fan, so the Chanter is pretty exciting to me.

*sigh* I'm seriously considering pumping more money in by pledging for a few more add-ons. On the one hand, I feel like I've done my part, but on the other hand, if I can do more, I feel like I should. I'm really not much of a spendthrift. I usually don't spend all that much on entertainment. I'm sure I'll get something more in the next five days, but what that something will be I just don't know. I'm inclined towards digital owing to the idea that it won't require them to ship more. Of course, they have to ship already, so maybe that wouldn't be a bad idea. Then again, I could also just come and pick up my physical swag. I don't like the idea of bugging these guys while they're working, but I *am* local and I know where the offices are located. lol Of all the real life drama I have going, I'm really agonizing over this Kickstarter.

Of course, Aeristal. There are similarities and differences. My point isn't that the lore is the same as Britain/America. I'm not even saying that the lore is based on the real world. I'm just saying that these relationships are feasible, which I believe they are. ...But I'm not trying to put you down. I think questions and speculation are why we come here. For that reason, I'm all for you poking at the lore and questioning it. After all, the devs might take offense at my assessment more than yours. I think the lore has a big, broad back for carrying some great stories, but that doesn't mean folks shouldn't think about it critically or that it's an insult if they do.

We're on track for the fourth highest pledge total for a single day, and we've probably already made it. Anyhow, to get the original question, I can see a lot of intrigue between the cities. New Vegas showed that Obisidian knows how to do factions right and I have faith they'll be on the ball for intra and inter-city intrigues.

It actually sounds fairly close to the United States and British Empire. After all, there were many people who fought against England who were either overtly or putatively English sympathizers who saw themselves as fighting more or less for equal rights and representation. In fact, since they didn't have a few hundred years for their thinking to get set in stone, the fact is that many Americans right after the revolutionary war thought the government and fragile alliance would not stand for very long. Even after the adoption of the constitution, there were many people who thought it could go either way. There was Britain and France, and different factions wanted to go to war with either one of them all through our early Republic. Then there's the empire impressing folks to man ships, which truly smacks of the very beginning of the 19th century. The relationship between Aedyr and Drywood isn't merely feasible, it has a lot of real world historical elements to it. EDIT: I'm an idiot who constantly leaves out words that literally change the meaning of the sentence.

For 20-30 bucks, you could include the xpac add-on or, if you want a sneak peak, you can get the beta key. I, for myself, won't want to play the game until after it has shipped and won't use the key. If none of my friends want it, I'll probably just give it to one of the forums regulars who didn't get it in his or her tier. I also think the stategy guide is a good choice for 7 bucks. Even if you don't use it the first run, the strategy guide can still be useful for housekeeping/reference stuff and they can be interesting if well written.

The one thing I can't get excited about is the lore. It's not that I don't like it. I do. ...But hearing about the lore is like reading the back of a book I've already decided to buy. It's like getting dessert but no meal. I want the meat and potatoes. I want to get in there and explore and touch things and meet people. I want someone who supported Waidwen (or supports him still) to tell me why his iron-fisted rule in which he persecuted heretics was just and right. ...And I want that argument to make sense, even if I completely think he's wrong. I want to have some ignorant hick yell at me for using Hylspeak, laugh at his foolishness, only to have someone else make a better argument that makes me think twice. There are the bones for great stories in this, but the stories are what I want. I don't mean to slight the lore-craft. It's just that I hate licking the icing when I could have a full piece of cake. ...But I guess the point is to tease us, so in that regard I suppose I'm arguing against myself. :Cant's rueful grin icon: EDIT: Always with teh typos.

I'm assuming my stronghold will have a wine cellar.... just sayin'. It all looks great. Since these appear to be the last of the stretch goals, I might have to go in for a couple of those almanac thingies. I'll already get the almanac from my teir, and then maybe I'll get an almanac for a couple of other folks too. The screenshot is already my background and it looks splendid.

The expansion pack is an add-on, so you do the same thing as for the other add-ons. Let me find the Update for it: http://www.kickstart...ty/posts/311594 So what you do, and I've been doing this since I have as many add-ons as my base tier, is you pledge for your tier and then manage your pledge by including the money for each add-on. At the end of the campaign, you'll get a message sent to the email account you used for Kickstarter asking what you want and how. So, if you bought in at $35, then you'll up your pledge by $25 to $60. At the end of the Kickstarter campaign, you'll respond to the email with instructions for the $35 tier and the $25 xpac. I hope this helps, but I would definitely read the update. The infor about add-ons is up at the top.

My sarcasm roll failed. I do actually like strongholds, but I really don't want one for this PC. My reason is that it's more personal than epic in nature. I'd like the main goal the whole time to be survival, and owning a stronghold means you're not just surviving this terrible ordeal, you're not doing so badly. What I want, and the clamoring for a stronghold probably means this just ain't gonna happen, is for the PC to be more or less a regular ol' joe who witnesses something terrible and is marked by it, not only in his own mind but by the supernatural entities involved. The rest of the game, he's still just a regular ol' joe who's trying to survive and, if he's clever and lucky enough, he does. At the end of the game, he's still just a regular ol' joe, but, depending on how you play him, he might be scarred (physically and mentally) or wiser or even a man with a new lease on life having faced down death. ...But the ship of stronghold has sailed. My bet is, since there is such interest, that there will be a stronghold, and if there is one, I want to have my own damned wine cellar. Whatever else, I think the vast majority of the game, folks will spend outside the stronghold even if they include one in the game.

I have to add my voice to the upgradeable stronghold crowd. Seriously, I want to be able to customize my mage tower (yeah, my first run will be a Chanter, but I'll probably play most as a mage). I want a steward, butlers, groundskeepers, my own damned personal valet. I want fine elvish flatware, imported dwarven silver, and the best chefs money can buy. I want a study with towering stacks of books, a mahogany desk, and a floating teakwood mage chair. I want wine cellars with every brand of wine from every corner of the known world. I want a private bath for my own pleasure and a roman bath so I can move back and forth between the piping hot water and the chilly cold water. I want fine sculptures so detailed that people wonder if I had them crafted or merely turned some unlucky folks into marble. I don't want some drafty, flimsy, rough hewn log cabin with nothing more than threadbare sheets and en empty cupboard. ...And I want to be able to ignore the place the vast majority of the time because I'm out adventuring.

I don't understand why some people seem to spit venom at Ziets. As a practical matter, did MotB 'flop?' He had a role in Middle Earth Online also, if I'm not mistaken, and it's still going. I know folks hate to hear about MMORPGs around here, but I think it's good on his resume. Plus, he seems like a genuinely nice guy. I mean, I don't really know him, I guess, but from everything I've seen, he's gracious, affable, and really works hard at his craft. ...And, no, I'm not one of the folks who clamored for him. I'm glad he's going to be signing on, though. Obsidz has already said that you get to choose between STEAM or no for the hard copy. I'm going for STEAM, but you won't be forced to do so. In fact, I'm going to look for it now. EDIT: here you go! :Cant's cheerful smile icon: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/61253-update-18-george-ziets-paladins-add-ons-rewards-and-more/page__st__180?do=findComment&comment=1233104

I kind of like the cheap one better. I dunno. I think a thumb drive would work better. I just wonder how they're going to work out all this physical tier stuff. I mean, on one hand, the t-shirts were always a given in that virtually everyone seems to offer t-shirts for sale and as advertising. The mousepad doesn't seem like such a bad idea, but the more they delve into physical items, the more of a pain it's going to be to sort through all the stuff.

Okay, I'm level 14 now and I'm getting ready to make a little detour to this mythical place called Utah. My first dlc. Huzzah!
